Best RV Parks & Resorts near Starbuck, MN

Several RV parks surround Starbuck, Minnesota, offering diverse options for motorhome travelers. Andes RV Park in Kensington provides big-rig friendly sites with full hookups including water, electric, and sewer connections. Alexandria Shooting Park and RV Campground operates seasonally from May 1 to October 30, featuring spacious pull-through sites with 50-amp electrical service and water hookups. The Homestead at Ottertail RV Park and Resort delivers comprehensive amenities with 20/30/50 amp electrical options at all sites, plus water and sewer connections. Lakes Area Motel and RV Park in Alexandria stands out as an all-year option for RV camping with level gravel sites that accommodate larger rigs. "We had a full hookup with 50 amp service. Our site was next to US-12 and had no noise issues," noted one RV camper about their experience at a nearby park.

Seasonal considerations affect RV park availability throughout the region. While most parks operate from May through October, Lakes Area Motel and RV Park remains open year-round for winter RV camping needs. Dump stations are available at most facilities, though some parks like Outdoors Inn Campground lack water supply at their dump stations for rinsing tanks. Cell service varies significantly across the area, with one reviewer noting "Verizon cell signal is poor" at certain locations. Pet policies are generally accommodating, with most RV parks welcoming dogs and cats with standard leash requirements. Propane service is limited, so RV travelers should plan to fill tanks in larger towns like Alexandria before arriving at their campsite. Reservation requirements differ by season, with summer weekends typically requiring advance booking while shoulder season often allows for more flexibility.

Lac qui Parle Upper Campground — Lac qui Parle State Park

    Spacious and tranquil

Lots of space between sites. There are not many trees so not much shade. Sites are gravel and relatively level, not much leveling required. Variety of sites, from group camping, primitive (no hookups), electric only, full hookups (water, electric, sewer) as well as cabins and tent only areas. Limited hiking trails connected to campground. Surrounded on two sides by farm fields and Lac Qui Parle Lake on another. There are two loops in the campground. One loop has view of the lake. Boat/canoe launch is in lower campground about 10 minutes from Upper Campground. Recycling and garbage dumpsters on site. Dump station near entrance. Verizon cell signal is poor. Pit toilets available. Bathhouse is centrally located, includes private showers. No laundry on site. Nearby attractions in Montevideo include Talking Waters Brewery/taproom, Jake’s pizza and Java River cafe (with outdoor seating, dog friendly).

    Sinclair Lewis City Campground

    Small town

My extended family has gatherings here a couple times a year as it is close to everybody and a great location! The campground is open for the season from May 1st to October 1st each year, weather permitting.

Reasons we like this campground: lakefront sites are available, the town is small so pretty quiet but there are gas stations, restaurants, and stores (including Walmart), it is close to home for everybody so this tends to be the first trip of the year to get water in everything and make sure there are no fun surprises after wintering the campers for 5 to 6 months, has bathrooms, there is a walking trail close to the campground that goes around part of the lake.

Additional details and amenities: 80 sites, 52 sites with full hookup which include water, sewer and electricity and 24 sites with water and electricity only and 4 primitive sites. All campsites contain a fire pit. Three sets of restrooms are contained within the campground with showers. Other amenities include: picnic tables, storm shelter, dump station, fish cleaning house, kayak rental, lake access with boat ramp and docks. Public beach, splash pad, bike trail, and playground adjacent.

    Lake Carlos State Park Campground

    Beautiful and quiet

End of October, Stopped for just one night, probably about a 20ish minute drive from 94. Was able to purchase firewood after closing, and the campsite were easy to find after (7$)entry to the park. Campsites are reserved through an online system. We found the top campsite completely empty and plenty of sites had good tree coverage for privacy/ way no protection. Nice level sites with soft ground. Each site had a fire ring and picnic table. The only bathroom in walking distance to the upper campsites was a vault toilet located amongst the cabins. Seems like a great place to stay any season.

    Outdoors Inn Campground

    Great location next to Chippewa

    Recommended!

We had a full hookups with 50 amp service. Our site was next to US-12 and had no noise issues. The Chippewa river flows next to the camp and the adjoining river bank is woodlands. We had no insect issues. There is a super dog park and grocery just east on US-12. Found great coffee and scones in Benson at Go Set Ready Coffee.

Our site had a great camp fire pit made from a half sphere about 40 inches in diameter. Looked like the bottom of a buoy or end of a 250 lbs propane tank. The proprietor is an arborist and sold us a large bundle of hard wood that made great smores.

We picked Benson because of its close location to Glacial Lake state park and the Glacial Ridge Trail. Just take MN-29 north.  The topology change in terrain from the farm lands around Benson to the rolling hills and lakes north on MN-29 is great. Continue on MN-29 to Starbuck for a sizable lake. Take some time and explore the back roads on and around the Glacial Ridge Trail. There are many hills, forests and lakes you can explore east up to New London.

We had an encounter with a pair of swans on the side of the road next to a lake. These are large beautiful birds! We stopped in the car, kept our distance, watched from inside of the car and enjoyed them before the slipped back into the lake.

    Camp S'more Campground

    Family friendly local campground

This is a quiet and fairly small but impeccably maintained campground located near the town of Long Prairie. It would be a nice family friendly destination for an easy lical get away. There are weekly, monthly and seasonal site rentals with RV hookups, plus they do have a fully furnished on-site RV available to rent for those who dont have their own. The owners clearly take pride in maintaining the campground and in building a friendly camp community for families

Guide to Starbuck

The Starbuck area offers several RV camping options within a 30-mile radius. Situated in west-central Minnesota's prairie lake country, this region features a mix of agricultural land and freshwater recreation areas. Most campgrounds maintain seasonal operations from May through October due to Minnesota's harsh winters, though select facilities remain accessible year-round.

What to do

Outdoor shooting activities: Alexandria Shooting Park and RV Campground combines camping with sport shooting facilities. "We stayed for a few nights during the State High School Trap Shoot. Crowds were expected and it was a busy area. Surprisingly quiet in the evening given how many people were there," notes visitor Clarence C.

Trail exploration: Andes RV Park maintains extensive trail systems used for various seasonal activities. "It has outstanding trails that they use in the winter time for cross-country skiing with tons of outdoor activities," shares Ryan L. The park also offers recreational equipment rentals to enhance trail experiences.

Water recreation: Many campgrounds provide direct lake access or proximity to popular fishing spots. The region's numerous lakes support activities from casual fishing to tournament angling, with multiple boat launches available. Seasonal fishing regulations apply to different water bodies.

What campers like

Modern facilities: The Homestead at Ottertail RV Park and Resort receives consistent praise for its comprehensive amenities. "ALL SITES HAVE: 20/30/50 amp electrical hook-ups, water and sewer, fire Pits. PARK AMENITIES: bathrooms, showers, pool, fish cleaning shack, playground, laundry facilities, firewood and ice available, basketball court, volleyball," explains camper Tori K.

Convenient services: Many parks offer on-site services that simplify extended stays. "The laundry room, the firewood and the ice delivery service were a convenient touch, and easy as a quick phone call or text," reports a Canada0718! F. about their experience at Andes RV Park.

Quick overnight options: Lakes Area Motel and RV Park serves as a practical stop for travelers passing through. "Made last minute reservation through website. Pick your own site. No sign of bathhouse. Good hookups though. Over air TV has 60+ channels including cable channels," notes Curtiss S.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Most RV parks near Starbuck operate from May through October, with limited winter options. Weather patterns affect site conditions, particularly during spring thaw and after heavy rainfall events when some unpaved access roads may become difficult to navigate.

Site selection matters: Westrich RV Park offers specialized group camping options. "Stayed here with a large group of family and had a site big enough for all of our rigs. We brought our own firepits due to the size of the site we had," reports Tori K., highlighting the importance of discussing specific needs when making reservations.

Bug preparation: Minnesota's summer months bring mosquitoes and other insects. "If coming in summer make sure to bring plenty of bug spray!!!" warns Canada0718! F. about their Andes RV Park visit. Bug activity intensifies near water features and during evening hours.

Tips for camping with families

Activity options: Multiple campgrounds feature recreational facilities appropriate for different age groups. "There is a playground, pool, volleyball area, basketball court, and shower/bath house," notes Tori K. about Westrich RV Park, indicating family-friendly amenities.

Pet considerations: Alexandria Shooting Park and RV Campground welcomes pets but requires awareness of the facility's primary purpose. "It is an active gun range so if shooting bothers you, may not be your place," advises Roger B., which applies equally to noise-sensitive children and pets.

Multi-generational appeal: Some facilities intentionally cater to various age groups. "We absolutely love this campground! We've camped there every year since 2019! Great owners, great amenities, close to many lakes…not much else you could ask for!" shares Sheila K. about The Homestead at Ottertail RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Site preparation: Many RV campers recommend calling ahead to confirm site dimensions and amenities. "All lots, (lots of lots), were level and had water & electric. Super easy check in. Would definitely stay again," reports Roger B. about Alexandria Shooting Park.

Off-peak advantages: Visiting during shoulder seasons often means quieter campgrounds with greater flexibility. "Nice, new rv park. Not far off I 94. Spent 1 night, but slept well due to no noise," notes Helen V. about her experience at Andes RV Park.

Television reception: Several campgrounds offer surprisingly good over-air television options. "Over air TV has 60+ channels including cable channels," mentions Curtiss S. about Lakes Area Motel and RV Park, an unexpected amenity for those accustomed to limited rural broadcasting.
