      Big Rice Lake

      ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Camping Spot!

      Great place to camp! It’s about 6 miles down a gravel road, but even on a motorcycle, the ride isn’t bad at all. Just take your time and be careful once you get to the campground roads. There’s a rough spot with some pretty deep ruts and standing water that you’ll want to watch out for, especially on two wheels.

      There are about 3–4 campsites with fire rings, and there’s access to the water at the end of the road. It’s a nice, peaceful spot to get away and enjoy the outdoors. Definitely worth the drive, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a good camping spot, even if you’re traveling by motorcycle!

      Kab-Ash Trail Dispersed Campsites

      Trailhead with two areas of cut grass

      This is more of a trailhead than an RV campsite. There are two areas, one near each entrance/exit, which are simply areas of mown grass; it is not a dirt road and can get muddy. The main area of the trailhead has a dirt road and you could fit a trailer on it. Pleasant place but a little dirty.

      Birch Lake Campground & Backcountry Sites

      Great for families and friends

      We stayed Labor Day weekend 2026. The camp sites are huge. Site 29 has room for 3 hammock set ups. I did a tent with plenty of room to set up perfectly with a 2 person tent. Access to the water was tricky straight from the site but doable. Spent 4 hours on the water kayaking. The views are incredible.

      Lake Vermillion-Soudan Mine State Park Campsites — Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park

      A gem of a park. And a park for EVs

      This is one of Minnesota’s more modern state park campgrounds—you even get Wi-Fi with your mosquitoes. We had perfect weather, a great fire, and a private-feeling site with 50-amp service; they allowed EV charging after I called ahead. A nearby trail and occasional passing car were the only traffic. Many sites appeared to be occupied by longer-term RV campers, complete with flags and welcome signs. The mine tour was absolutely worth it—book ahead, because several people were turned away.

      Wonderful Spot

      We pulled off here for a couple nights in August. Disperse camping at a non-busy trail head. Maybe saw one other car pull off the 2 1/2 days we were there. Road noise was a little loud but we dint mind. The bugs there pretty rough but the spot for our 30 foot trailer was mowed almost perfectly. We hardly had to level at all!

      Never could find the campground, as the address provided by Dyrt led us to a private residence, same area.  Campground not marked from the road at all and people in town had not heard of it

      Wooded lake camping

      Very nice. Quiet. Lake sites are few and most not very level. All the spaces seem very nice. Wooded and relatively private. Pit toilets were being thoroughly cleaned this morning while we were walking around the campground. Would definitely stay here again.

      First come first served. Plenty of available sites early evening on a Friday. Scan a barcode to pay. $17. Pick up a site card at entrance to put on the site post.
