    Elkhart Campground

    Worked for Us

We came to Elkhart for a week to have servicing done on our 5th wheel. The campground(CG) was easy to find and pull into just a short drive off the highway. After checking in, we proceeded to pull through site 742 with FHUs. We had a tight turn into the site due to the camper next to us sitting at the back of the site, and a Class A on the other side was close with its awning out. But we were able to get positioned on the site so that we had a few feet of clearance between our bedroom slide and their awning. The regular sites are very close together in this CG. The deluxe sites give you a cement pad and better spacing but are still fairly close together. The utilities were well placed on the pad and the water pressure was good at around 50 psi. We got 4 bars on Verizon but the CG Wifi wasn’t all that great. They have about a 1/4 acre fenced dog area plus there are plenty of areas within the CG to walk your dog including a short trail through the woods at the back of the CG. There’s a small camp store at the check-in office and a decent laundry in Rec Hall 3. Go to the Flippin Cow about 1.5 miles from the campground on Simonton Lake. The Bonnie burger is very good! If you need any obscure RV parts, check out Bontrager's Surplus in White Pigeon MI. This large RV surplus is not too far away and it's worth checking out just to see all the things they have in stock. Overall, this CG met our needs.

    Elkhart Campground

    3 1/2 star campground

It is a very large older CG with a few upgrades. Clean, with decent amenities. We were placed in the rear section, which was just ok. Site needed leveling, had no shade at all and was close to major hwy. The front and side sites seemed nicer and had ample shade with some concrete sites. Laundry room, pool and bathrooms were very clean. Large dog park, but was far from our site. Was only 25 min from Notre Dame and about an hour from lake Michigan WiFi was great, no cable, but good antenna reception

    Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday

    Nice campground

I stayed at this place when it was B&B and it is now a KOA. Several new sites were added and the park appears to be much cleaner. The restrooms are nice and the camp personnel are friendly. There is a dog park for walking the dog but with so much driveway I just walk the dog around the park. They have several dog bag stations around the park to make clean up easy. There are 3 playgrounds and boat area on the lake. I believe you can rent boats to fish even though I never have. I will definitely stay here again.

    Elkhart RV Resort by Rjourney

    Great campground!

Great campground in the heart of Amish country. Near Elkhart and the RV/MH Hall of Fame & Museum. Great place to visit, really interesting. Also, near Shipshewana. Campground has lots of activities: pool, miniature golf, volley ball, fishing pond, big chess set, bike rental, mining area, playground, and rec. hall w/ video games, pool, ping pong, air hockey, and juke box. Nice little store. Dog park. Clean restrooms. Friendly owner and employees. Lots of mature shed trees.

    Weko Beach Campground

    Great little campground

Couple minute walk to the beautiful Lake Michigan beach. Waist deep most areas, waves can get big tho. The campgrounds beach is NOT pet friendly, but there is a flat boardwalk that takes you to a pet friendly area of beach of neighboring Warren dunes state park. Clean easy to locate water/trash/office areas. Friendly staff. They check the loops frequently and keep things tidy. Sandy but drivable roads(be careful in a washout). Flat nice sized lots. Clean bathroom/shower house! (Males and females share showers, could be concerning during busy season). Peaceful and quiet. Loved everything about our trip. (Be warned the camping lots are sand too, you will have sand everywhere! But its worth it!)

    Warren Dunes State Park Campground

    Beautiful campground on Lake Michigan

Happened upon this Gem when driving the coast of Lake Michigan.  Watched the solar eclipse from the beach.   The DBR had a viewing area setup for adults and kids.  Lots of trails and activities for the kids.  Pet friendly also.

Family-friendly activities: Multiple recreation options keep children engaged. At Twin Mills Camping Resort, "really fun for families, nice pool and bathrooms, putt putt, bring your bikes," recommends Kelly L.

What you should know

Early booking recommended: Summer weekends fill quickly, especially at campgrounds with water access. "Beautiful place, wish I could have stayed a lot longer," notes Nancy about Cade Lake County Park & Campground.

Site selection matters: Campground layouts vary significantly between facilities. At Shipshewana RV Park, "The Park offers mainly alternating pull-through sites which means you will be facing your neighbor's door not their street side of the camper. This makes for great buddy sites," explains Andrew M.

Seasonal variations: Some facilities reduce amenities in off-peak months. "This KOA is much smaller than most and has fewer amenities, although the prices are comparable. Surprisingly this area is very high with camping charges, especially off season," notes Barbara P.

Bathroom access protocols: "The restrooms have a code for entry," reports Lee D. about Shipshewana North Park Campground, indicating security measures in place at most facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Select sites near recreational areas for convenience. Nicole P. shares that Shady Point Campground "had playgrounds and basketball court and a small 'game' room. There was also a well stocked store with very reasonable prices."

Swimming opportunities: Water access provides natural entertainment for children. "Kids loves it. No problems," reports Sharlyn O. after staying at Shady Point Campground.

Scheduled activities: Some campgrounds organize family events during peak season. At Ebys Pines, "Tons of stuff to do for campers of all ages. Roller skating, mini bowling, laser tag, and an arcade at the fun center. There was a corn hole tournament, a golf cart parade, a wagon ride, and a live band," according to Jason S.

Multi-generational options: Facilities typically accommodate various camping styles. "We stayed for a weekend. The campground was clean sites were all very nice and pool was really clean," mentions Ray R.

Tips from RVers

Utility connections: Most sites offer water and electric hookups with sewer connections available at premium sites. "Lots of pull through sites with full hook up," notes Stacy E. about Elkhart Campground.

Site leveling requirements: Terrain varies between facilities. "Site needed leveling, had no shade at all and was close to major hwy. The front and side sites seemed nicer and had ample shade with some concrete sites," advises deb K.

Internet availability: Connectivity options range from free to paid services. Andrew M. explains, "Internet is through a paid campground service and was $5/day but was actually very good. Not too sure how service would be during peak season."

Seasonal site spacing: Occupancy levels affect perceived crowding. Barbara P. reports, "Our site was the farthest loop on the back row. Very wooded, the unit beside us obviously was a seasonal and had placed their unit horizontally in the space which made sitting outside awkward."
