The dog beach is so much better than expected

The campsites themselves are sadly devoid of much shade, and only a few even have a water view.  But the dog beach, a bit of a walk down the trail towards the lighthouse, surely exceeded our expectations.  Most places designate barely usable waterfront areas to dog beach. At first glance, the dog…

  • Our dogs don't even normally like to swim, but loved the dog beach, with it's warm shallow calm waters.

Quiet & small

We chose this campground due to location (family event nearby). The sites are spacious and clean. The campground had 4 other occupied sites (seasonal?). We never saw another person during our visit. The sites have electric only. Water is shared between 3-4 sites, so you better bring a hundred feet…

  • Our site seemed to be the only one with a sledding hill.
  • Very clean shower. Only one stall.

Great park with a lighthouse

East Tawas is a place I've visited most of my adult life. There's some walking trails here, the lighthouse is a close walk/bike from anywhere in the park. Getting to town is a few minute drive, or a very long bike ride on the road.

Like most Michigan State Parks, your site has electric (30/50)…

Beautiful

Beautiful spots, nicely spaced, right on the water. Ranger stopped in to say hey each day. I plan on going back before it gets too busy.

Worth the drive for us!

We took a group of 6 adults and 3 kids to Bay City which was a pretty good drive for us. We had a lot of fun! Park was clean and located across from the lake. There was a splash pad area for the kids which they begged to go to every day! The only bad thing was we had to drive our kayaks across the…

Incredibly beautiful and secluded

We stumbled on this campground accidentally but I am sure happy that we did! What a beautiful place. We were there in the late fall, so I imagine it most likely gets busy in the summer seeing as half the sights have lake access. Although, for a beautiful fall weekend there was wasn’t more than 3…

Far away AND close to town...all at the same time!

We found this campground on a walk around the town of Ontonagon, but didn't get a chance to camp here as it was already closed for the season.  We caught it after the beauty of the fall color had already gone, but it's probably a stunner!  We'll be back sometime...

For such a township park, it…

  • Nice, rustic sites.
  • Views of Lake Superior.
  • The local water trail. We'll be back to try this someday!

Bay City State Park Campground

This is a really nice campground with newer bathrooms. I saw two cabins. The campground is not right on the lake. You have to cross the road to get to the state park with a great beach and a small, two mile trail. The campsites are right next to each other but there were a lot of mature trees.…

Large State Park on a beautiful inland lake.

This is one of our families favorite places to camp. Higgins lake is beautiful. The water is less than waist deep for about 100 yards out and then drops off to about 90' deep. The water color is amazing when the sun is out. There is a massive boat launch in a protected lagoon. The campground has…

Enjoyable but wet

We camped the weekend. Staff was very friendly upon check in. The beach was nice with picnic tables and lots of playgrounds. I was very excited to do the board walks but when we arrived most were flooded I was very disappointed. Also out sites 1 and 2 were very wet and lots of frogs. We’d want the…

Large shady sites

The restrooms and showers were very clean, smelled of bleach. The nature trail around the lagoon is a birder's dream. We saw white egrets blue heron, sand pipers and their babies. There is a long paved bike path we had a dear pass within 6 feet of us and enjoyed hiking out to the watch towers. …

Clean, quiet, nice!

We tented this past weekend at Rollways and it was great! The sites were big. We brought our own kayaks and spent the day at on loud lake which was about a 15 min drive away. There were plenty of vault toilets which were very clean and water stations. Some sites were reservable and some were first…
