SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Managed by the MIDNR Wildlife Division within the Gladwin Game Unit and Field Trial Area of State Forest, Trout Lake sits in forested terrain north of Gladwin and draws campers who arrive by car, boat, or on foot. The campground runs year-round at $15 per night, and roughly half the sites have direct lake access, making water proximity a genuine factor when choosing where to set up. Nearby options include House Lake State Forest Campground less than half a mile to the northeast, giving the area a cluster of state forest camping within a short walk or drive.

Water access is the most consistent theme in reviews. Campers mention fishing, paddling, and a beach area, and the lake's condition can vary by season. One recent visitor noted the lake level was noticeably low during a fall trip, reducing how much it factored into the experience. Berry picking is another activity that comes up, particularly during the growing season, when the surrounding vegetation produces fruit worth foraging.

Crowd levels appear to stay low outside of summer. A late-fall visit turned up only a handful of other campers across the sites, though reviewers expect summer weekends to be busier given the lake-access sites. Amenities include drinking water, outhouses, picnic tables, and trash service. Fires and pets are both permitted. Campers planning a summer trip who want a lake-access site should arrive early in the day, as those spots are likely to fill first.

Quiet Fall Visit

Only camper in cluster of sites. Very quiet and peaceful. Only negative is that the lake is very low and not really a part of the camping experience

Incredibly beautiful and secluded

We stumbled on this campground accidentally but I am sure happy that we did! What a beautiful place. We were there in the late fall, so I imagine it most likely gets busy in the summer seeing as half the sights have lake access. Although, for a beautiful fall weekend there was wasn’t more than 3 other campers, so I have to wonder. I will definitely be heading back in the spring/summer for a paddle.
