Camp Meade RV Park in Laurel offers year-round RV camping with full hookups including 50-amp service and is big-rig friendly. Cherry Hill Park, located in nearby College Park, provides premium RV sites with 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections on level gravel pads. The park features spacious pull-through sites that accommodate large motorhomes and fifth wheels. Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina in Abingdon has 91 sites with full hookup options and both 30-amp and 50-amp service on paved, level sites. "The sites are pretty close, but they are impeccably clean. You get a fire ring with grill grate, and firewood is available for a small fee," notes one RV camper about the regional campgrounds.

Reservations are essential during peak seasons, particularly for weekend stays at popular RV parks near Washington DC. Cherry Hill Park offers a shuttle service to DC attractions, making it a convenient base for exploring the capital. Cell service varies between campgrounds, with most offering at least 2-3 bars on major carriers. Dump stations are available at all the full-service RV parks, though Greenbelt Park Campground has limited hookups but does provide a sanitary dump. Most campgrounds in the region are pet-friendly with designated dog areas. Bar Harbor RV Park includes propane fill service on-site, while others have propane available for purchase at camp stores. Some parks have narrow interior roads that can be challenging for larger rigs, so calling ahead to confirm access is recommended.

Greenbelt Park Campground — Greenbelt Park

Close to washington as we could get. Could also park our skoolie bus which was nice and had plenty of close by shower with bathrooms. Keep in mind only one shower per restroom house. We stayed at a pretty slow season so it wasn’t bad. Would recommend if visiting DC! They also have a dump station and water fill up.

      Codorus State Park Campground

      Hurricane camping

You just can't beat a pennsylvania park. This one is not an exception. Nice clean restroom, plenty of room. Now, what cost a star. Yes, it rained like hell. When we broke camp and go dump. The dump station was overflowing with sewer. Go to the guard shack to tell them, and find another site. None there. Can I go to an unused full hookup to dump? No! I would have to pay for the site. Two hours later, we found a place to dump for $10.

      Bull Run Regional Park

Site #133 — Great site once you figure out the best way to get into it

We stayed in site #133 with our 34'10" travel trailer/toy hauler. Overall, we really like the site. It's spacious, fairly level, heavily wooded, and feels surprisingly private. There's plenty of room around the camper, and although there are other campsites and cabins nearby, the trees provide a lot of separation. We had a nice large area for our chairs, fire pit, picnic table, and dogs. The biggest thing to know about #133 is the approach. We were instructed to pass the site, go around the loop, and then make a left turn into it. With our nearly 35' trailer, that would have required an extremely tight, almost 90-degree turn between the trees, and we did not feel we could safely make it. There is actually visible damage on one of the trees at the entrance, so it appears others may have had difficulty with the turn as well. Instead, we approached from the opposite direction and positioned the camper with our doors facing the main campsite area. That put the water and electric hookups on the opposite side, but our hoses and cord were long enough to run underneath the camper and reach without a problem. Once we figured that out, the site worked very well for us. I initially thought we probably wouldn't choose #133 again because of the awkward setup, but after spending the weekend here, I would. Now that we know how to approach and position our trailer, it really is a nice site. If you're bringing a longer travel trailer, just be prepared to do a little maneuvering and make sure your water hose and electrical cord have enough length if you decide to orient your camper the way we did.

      Lake Fairfax Campground

Decent campground in the middle of a urban area

Spent two nights while we saw the Avett Brothers play at Wolf Trap. Nice flat site with power. Campground was quiet and clean. The only negative is communication and signage. It took us a couple wrong turns to find our site and when we came back, after the concert around 11, the entrance gate was closed and we had to sneak in through the exit gate. Asked the next day and they said that is what campers do to access the park after 11pm.

      Gambrill State Park Campground

      Great Camp Spot

This is a great camping spot. The sites aren’t too close together and the hosts are very friendly. The only reason I gave it four stars is because we are near a highway so you can hear cars throughout the night. But the crickets make up for it by being as loud as possible. With the fees, it cost $25 for a non-electric site and with access to showers after a long trek I was happy to pay.

      Redemption Springs

      Pleasant Stay and Hosts

We stayed at Redemption Springs to get relatively close to Baltimore without bringing our 30ft travel trailer into the city. Seth and the other gentlemen I spoke with were all extremely accommodating. Enjoyed learning about their approach to restorative farming and purchasing a variety of treats at the farm store. Beef, pork, chicken, seasonings, baked goods, and more. We booked on Hipcamp and recommend following his driving instructions. Our rig fit fine by tuhe main barn and they kept an eye on us going in and out to make sure we didn't have issues making any of the turns. Lots of farm life!

      Little Bennett Campground

      Great Potential?

We stayed at Little Bennett starting on Labor Day Monday and left before the weekend, so it is hard to say how this looks when the campground is full of life. They had quite a few activities for families and a pavilion capable of concerts and such, but there was minimal activity during our stay. My biggest complaint is that the gate code changed and we didn't get any notice--so after a long day and a dinner out near Baltimore (nearly an hour away), I had to call the police to get back to my camper. Otherwise, the campsite was relatively spacious and quiet. The bugs were a little rough. Lots of whitetail running around.

      Annapolis MWR Academy RV/Campground

      Great spot for Retirees/Active

If you want to be near Annapolis, right on the Severn River...this is it. About 15 RV spots nestled in the woods...with full hook ups. A couple of primitive spots as well. Just a quick 5 min walk to the river...right across from the Academy. NEX, gas within 10 min walk, and 15 min drive to downtown Annapolis. Staff is always great here, and the park is clean....for a park on the woods.

    What to do

Hike woodland trails: Prince William Forest Park offers multiple hiking paths through mature forests. "Prince William Forest National Park is accessible for awesome day hikes. Civil War National Parks nearby. DC just up the road. National Marine Corp Museum just around corner," notes Kenneth H. about the Prince William Forest RV Campground.

Explore water activities: Bush River provides fishing and kayaking opportunities. "Camped here at the end of summer, really loved it. Had our kayaks with us and the water wasn't but a few steps away. Some sites you are right on the waters edge," shares Janet P. about Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina.

Visit historical sites: The area offers access to numerous Civil War battlefields and monuments. "Register any visitors!! Clean, reasonable rates & quiet. Prince William Forest National Park is accessible for awesome day hikes. Civil War National Parks nearby," explains a visitor to Prince William Forest.

    What campers like

Metro access to DC: Greenbelt Park Campground provides easy city access. "There's normally a walking path from the campground to the metro station that takes you into DC (the green line takes you to the National Mall)," explains Laura M. about Greenbelt Park Campground.

Natural settings near urban areas: Despite proximity to cities, campgrounds maintain wooded environments. "This is a small facility that is well maintained. The staff is amazing. The showers are clean/hot and the playground is in very good condition," shares Rebecca E. about Prince William Forest.

Well-maintained facilities: Cherry Hill Park receives consistent praise for cleanliness. "Clean, nice people, and nice sites," reports Richard W., while another camper notes, "Restrooms/showers: very clean, spacious, centrally located. My spot was in the back row and I didn't mind the walk."

    What you should know

Varying site privacy: Site spacing differs significantly between campgrounds. "The sites are pretty staggered/set back from each other so feels like you have more space. Average lot size in general, but the set back feels like you have more space," explains Megan K. about Prince William Forest.

Urban noise factors: Some campgrounds experience noise from nearby roads or airports. "You can barely hear the traffic from the road outside the park," notes Miranda M. about Greenbelt Park, while another camper mentions, "The planes from the airport kept flying over, which made it hard to sleep" at Patapsco Valley State Park.

Bridge closures: Check current infrastructure status before visiting. "There's normally a walking path from the campground to the metro station that takes you into DC, but as of Oct 2023 the bridge is out due to a storm, and by the looks of it it's been out a while," warns a Greenbelt Park visitor.

    Tips for camping with families

Plan for playground access: Several campgrounds feature children's play areas. "There is a 'natural' playground in the loop, and then if you drive down further to the park entrance, there is a large playground for the kids," shares Jennifer S. about Patapsco Valley State Park.

Consider activity-rich campgrounds: Ramblin' Pines offers numerous family amenities. "It has a pool, jump pillow, mini golf, fishing pond, barnyard with goats, and multiple playgrounds. I really like all the trees," notes Sean M.

Check family program schedules: Many campgrounds run seasonal activities. "They had a campfire complete with s'mores followed by hayrides. Great family friendly campground," reports Bridget H. about Bull Run Regional Park.

    Tips from RVers

Watch for height restrictions: Some parks have low clearance entry points. "APPROACH THIS PARK ONLY FROM THE WEST IF YOUR VEHICLE IS OVER 11 FEET HIGH. (There is a 11' bridge coming east bound into this park)," warns a visitor to Patapsco Valley State Park.

Consider site levelness: Bring leveling equipment for uneven sites. "Some sites are a bit unlevel, front to rear, but definitely manageable," notes Mike H. about Fort Belvoir Travel and RV Camp.

Check site dimensions for RV sites near Laurel, Maryland: "Weekend was cold but the park was pretty full. This is close to us so it was an easy trip. Full hookup but we're told to turn off and unhook water the night it dropped below freezing. They do fill up propane but there's a Tractor Supply about 20min away that will also fill them," explains Laure D. about Bar Harbor RV Park.
