Our campground has direct trail access to approximately 1,000 miles of ATV trails as designated by the Maine Bureau of Parks and Land. You can ride to Greenville on Moosehead Lake, Jackman, The Forks, Rockwood, Bingham, and Cambridge, all from the campground! We are also less than a minute away driving from Piper Pond, a 2 mile long lake with public boat launch and beach access.

We are located in the town of Byron in western Maine's Lakes and Mountain Region where cell coverage is sparse and relaxation is abundant. Disconnecting is part of an authentic camping experience. Can’t get enough of the great outdoors? Try our rustic outdoor accommodations for a true Maine wilderness experience. We feature tenting sites with water and electric, and also have RV sites with water, electric, and an onsite dumping station. Our Kozy Kabins are located in remote, quiet settings within our 11,000 acre wilderness preserve. For an even greater outdoor experience, stay in one of our Wilderness Yurts. Yurts and Kozy Kabins have comfortable furnishings and all are within easy access to The Birches Resort’s main lodge. Ask us and we’ll have your bags transported and have a crackling fire ready for your arrival.
Our fifteen, lakeside cabins have the rustic charm of a traditional north woods sporting camp but come complete with modern conveniences. Cabins have covered porches, perfect for sitting and gazing at the view.
All cabins are heated by gas heat and wood stove. Some cabins have stone fireplaces (for use during the summer months.)

General: Small (15-site) campground near Grafton Notch State Park (but not IN the park). No hookups. Not all will agree with me, but I am glad no generators are allowed.
Site Quality: Sites are gravel, level, and have enough trees to afford privacy between sites.
Bath/Shower House: It is immaculately clean. Each gender has two stalls and one ADA-accessible shower. The shower has nice warm water and a great flow. There is also a very clean vault toilet.
Activities/Amenities: Horseshoes and cornhole in the lawn area in the center. Information on many local hikes. Rocky beach has tables where you can sit and relax. There are two dishwashing sinks, potable water, and a dump station.
What makes this campground shine is the owner, Mo. We’ve stayed in many campgrounds but hands down, Mo takes more pride in her campground than any other we’ve been in. Seasonal decorations, flower pots, and Mo is an on-site presence to answer questions, engage in conversation, and make sure the sites and all facilities are pristine. We stayed here five years ago and look forward to hopefully staying again in the future. About the only thing I can find fault with is the proximity to the road but even at that, road noise is minimal.

My husband and I camped at one of three tent sites that are located right on the lake. There is a new (or at least very clean) Porta-Potty for these three sites to share. There was also a VERY outdated/pieced together shower house near the office--something is better than nothing, I suppose. Back to the campsites: private, good amount of space, a picnic table, a firepit, and a trash can provided at each site. We did have some cleaning up to do when we arrived--bottle caps and even some Mich Ultra bottles littered the ground. But overall we had a pleasant stay--being on the lake was enough for us to overlook the litter we had to pick up when settling in.

I was nervous at first when I pulled up in a camper van--the "campground" was very much geared towards seasonal campers in large RVs. However, I was able to grab one of just a couple open spots on a Thursday afternoon. The staff (and residents) were so friendly and helpful. There were restrooms with coin-op showers and also a laundry room. Knocked off one star for the lack of privacy between sites and for the price ($70+ for essentially a parking spot with water/electricity is a bit much imo--at least make the showers free! lol)

The each campsite is nice and private--I was lucky enough to get a site on the lake for my stay! The shower houses/restrooms are amazing--one big open room with a large shower, toilet, sink, bench, and towel rack. The only downside is you have to press the button for the shower to run, and it's only a few seconds each push, so you're constantly pressing a button as you're mid scrubbing. But hey--after a long day of hiking or swimming, that's no big deal!

The campground was nice and quiet during our stay, but the pit toilets near our campsite were quite rough--super smelly and an endless amount of flies flying out of the toilet.

The main camping area has about 10 long narrow sites that have large rocks bordering each site. Each site is bordered by the road. There is a single vaulted toilet.
The paved area of the road ends just past the campground. Lots of people drive just past the pavement and then they turn around.
Across the road from the campground is a beautiful river. The sound of the river put us to sleep and greeted us the next morning.

My large family and I spent a week here. First, the campground is easy to find and making reservations is a snap! The owners are two of the greatest people I’ve met. They are more than friendly and accommodating. They work hard keeping the entire property neat including the bathhouse. Honestly, it’s the cleanest bathroom/shower house I’ve seen. There is a playground for kids and plenty of room at each site for them to play. My family and I agree, this place is incredible and you would be foolish to go elsewhere.

This is worse than a rest area on the Jersey pike. The area consists of a bunch of pull-ins in an old gravel pit, and two semiprivate spots that are essentially pull offs from the pavement.

Here I am, going to ruin it... no, really pretend you didn't read this... The main campground is nice, it has some great group spots, and some close sites, even a few semiprivate ones. After all it is a campground build on an old section on RTE 16. The campground as others have mentioned is right on the river, and a wonderful river it is.
This is primitive camping, no water, no electrical, but it does have pit toilets and boat rentals and a day use area.
The hidden spots though are totally private and not at the main site but else ware on rte. 16, the ranger told me about them. They are amazing (I didn't say that)
Access is easy for any vehicle, minimal cell coverage.
They are currently doing a dig and finding some amazing artifacts!

This location is Beautiful, but it comes at the cost of privacy. When I first discovered this spot, it wasn't an official campsite, people just came here to swim and there was a fire ring. That was over 20yrs ago.
There are 4 sites, 3 have no separation between them, 1 is at the entrance, all are on the access road with 0 privacy. This area is overused, and it shows, sites are warn in and if there was room relocating fire pits and allowing some nature to come back would be nice. I managed to tuck myself into a private alcove of trees on the #1 site, but still was in full view of headlights and people driving in to see if there was space. The site I had was big enough that I shared it with a couple that had a small child, and they had their own section.
There are no service, no water, no electricity, no to little cell coverage. There is one pit toilet.
The access road in is rough, not for normal street cars.

ScoutHad a short weekend stay but we were impressed at how clean and well ran the campground was! Mo was welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. The showers were hot and spacious. We were in Site 3 and it was perfectly distanced between the store and bathrooms. Will definitely be back soon!

There are a number of nice campsites right on the lake, but even if you don’t have a waterfront site, there is a public boat launch. There is a dishwashing station, laundry facilities, showers, and bathrooms, all very clean. Perfect for fishing, hiking, and kayaking.

The sites are beautiful, well spaced and well taken care of. The only "downside" is if you have a longer camper there are tight corners you need to be aware of in the camp roads. If you're good at maneuvering you're good to go.
On our last trip we rented double kayaks and paddled over to Brickyard Hollow for pizza and beers.
GuideMoose Creek RV Resort is in a great location in Greenville, close to town and to ATV trails. A good amount of ATV parking across the street.
The amenities are all brand new and beautiful, including the pool side bar. The sides are spacey and range from field sites to wooded more private sites.

We have tent camped in several of the sites 4X in the past 3 years. 10/28/23 was last visit for the year. We never see many trucks or people. The sites are quiet, peaceful, very clean and outhouses are always in excellent condition. We thank the folks who care so well for the sites. We got there in a compact SUV 3 years ago, but go by truck now. The road in off the Capital Road has deteriorated a fair amount in past year, due to rains, we believe. Don't make the trip if you expect good roads, but if you like logging roads, this area is wonderful.
LegendWhile this is close to the road, there is a good buffer of vegetation between the road and the campsites. I've camped here multiple times and never hear the road. Most sites are right on the Androscoggin River and the serenity is priceless. There are many grassy tent sites that can also accommodate small campers, like pop ups. There are a few lean-tos (2) and a few sites with wooden platforms.
The gentleman working the office was super kind and helpful. There was good signage indicating how to proceed for various needs in his absence, including how to purchase firewood and checking in/out. There is recycling available near most sites next to the various pit toilets. At this time, there are no showers or flush toilets but according to park staff, a facility for these items will be built in the near future.
Most sites are grassy but a few are hard packed dirt and a few had newly dispersed wood chips. Bathrooms were clean, water spigots are readily available as well. Sites are well maintained and some are closer together than others. Many have direct access to the river. There's really not a bad site.

GuideWent there looking for privacy with our dogs to camp overnight. There are about 4 total spots, but only 1 of the four is truly enjoyable/private. It was taken and we didn't want to be that close to the people that were there, so we moved on. So, it's a hit or miss, but I wouldn't travel there again.

As we got about a mile from the campground we had a moose walk out in the street in front of us. It looked at us for a few minutes and took off. That was a great sign. We were there for 14 nights over the 4th of July. We were in site 42 which has a waterview. You can kayak right from your campsite. It's a little tight trying to back in, yet the site itself is big. We had water & electric and there is a dump station onsite. Our site was shaded and private. They sell ice & firewood there along with a small store with a few supplies. We had a great sunset view and then the lighting bugs come out. The bullfrogs would sing and the Loons are nice to hear & see.
The staff and volunteers were amazing, helpful and you can tell they love their jobs.
There are some waterfront sites near the swim beach too some do not have any shade.
Site 1D is right on the water and has a little shade. Site 1 C next to 1 D isn't bad either. Site 41 is nice yet it's more for a tent camper. Site 43 backs up to the boat house so you don't have water access yet it's a big shaded site.
They have primitive sites you can boat to or you can hire the park to take you back & forth. I believe some are as far as 12 miles from the park. They have these metal boats that the front end drops down you can walk stuff right on & off the boat. There are side bar kayak/canoe carriers too so you can take your kayak with you. The park also rents kayaks & canoes.
We really enjoyed sitting on our chairs in the water at our site watching the boat take people out.
There is a nice bath house and laundry room. There are some cabins too.
When you leave the park and go left your in Maine within a few miles. There is a little store called Upton's that has some food, beer & wine, water and items for sale along with they do lunches and breakfast sandwiches. We bought some chicken salad, potato salad and fresh carrot cake cupcakes from there it was good. If you pass the store you will come to Grafton Notch state park. There are some overlooks and hiking trails. Screw Auger falls was nice and the beautiful wildflowers were in full bloom.
When you leave the park and turn right toward Errol there is a small grocery store that was just opening they had some groceries and Liquor. There is large outfitter/grocery/ Ace hardware store and a gas station. It was packed. We needed propane so Ace filled our tank. The outfitter store sells hunting/fishing permits and any sporting good item you can think of. There are a few little stores to shop for a souvenir.
Before you get to Errol you can take a right onto route 16 and drive to rangeley Maine. What a cute town with shops and good places to eat. There was a fresh market on wednesdays and a fresh seafood truck that sold good seafood from the truck. We bought native scallops, Salmon & shrimp and made a excellent dinner. The first 7 miles of 16 were a little rough yet once you hit the border of Main it's all new paved road. We ate at Parkside & main. Had a lobster roll of coarse and the clam chowder was the best. On the way back to camp we got some farm fresh eggs for $3.00 a dozen. There is an IGA grocery store there too.
We really enjoyed just sitting in our chairs in the water at our site and chilling. There were a lot of baby ducks that would visit everyday. They would swim around us & between us while we sat in the water. Very peaceful and quiet.
On the 4th of July someone had some great fireworks and put on a good show. We loved this campground it was a beautiful place to spend time.

On the grounds of a roadside motel just 6 miles from Sugarloaf and east access to the AT, this newly added 13+ campsites are easy in and out, well appointed and have wonderful facilities. Toilets, hot showers, gazebo with fire pit, lounge with WiFi, full kitchen, TV, games and more. Great place to meet other campers and hikers and share a meal.
