Happy Horseshoe Campground

With reservations available and full hookups for RVs up to 60 feet, Happy Horseshoe Campground operates from late May through early September in rural Lexington Township. The family-owned facility accommodates drive-in, walk-in, and boat-in access, though most campers arrive by vehicle on the township roads.

Two bathhouses serve the campground's mix of seasonal and transient sites, which reviewers consistently describe as well-maintained. The grounds include an inground pool, playground, game room, and walking trail, plus a small store with cafe. A M. notes the campground is "extremely clean, well-maintained" despite sites being "rather close together." Many seasonal RV occupants create a community atmosphere with planned activities and Saturday night entertainment.

The laundry facility houses older equipment with limited capacity—just two washers and one dryer from the 1970s. ATV enthusiasts frequent the campground due to nearby trail systems, while hikers can access Appalachian Trail points roughly 12 miles north. Saturday evenings feature traditional Maine bean-hole beans prepared by the owners. Campers report moose sightings within a 15-minute drive from the campground during evening hours.

For those planning extended stays, the campground caters well to families and accepts pets, though the seasonal community focus may not suit every camping style.

Campers regularly cited the friendly owners, well-maintained facilities, and strong family amenities including pool and entertainment. Some feedback indicated sites are close together, and laundry equipment needs updating, but most found it a welcoming community-focused campground.

Owners are so nice!!!

It's not our type if place, as the sites are rather close together, but it's a nice campground. Extremely clean, well- maintained. It's obviously a labor of love by the owners, because it is in pristine condition. Seasonal sites/Community events throughout the summer. Very Vintage Vibe!!

Family friendly

Owners, Judy & Buster have created a camping gem in rural Maine. Grounds are equipped with spacious woodsy sites, two very clean bath houses, a rec room , walking trail, nice sized inground pool, playground for smaller kids, a store with Cafe and a teeny- tiny laundry room.

Buster serves up Bean-Hole Beans every Saturday evening. It's a Mainer thing.

If I had a complaint it would be about the much dated laundry facility only having 2 semi working 1970's washers and only one 1970's dryer. This was a minor problem since the owners are so accommodating and everything else was enjoyable.

My husband, daughter, myself and our labradoodle truly had a remarkable time during our two and half month stay from July til the end of September.

If hiking is your thing there are many enjoyable hikes nearby

We were able to see moose regularly during evening hours just a few miles from camp. When leaving camp make a left, drive aprox 15 mins and you are sure to see them.

Super awesome experience!!!

SiteCan't recall, but it was near the bath houses in the back.

A throwback campground

Truly nice folks who built this campground 39 years ago, still run it. Well maintained and full of nice folks. Mostly rv camping with some tent sites. A lot of seasonal rv occupants. Great for families with children but nice for all folks. Two bath areas and a laundry room. Free baths and inexpensive laundry prices. There must be many atv trails nearby as plenty of campers had theirs up and running. About 12 miles south of a point on the AT so plenty of hiking nearby as well. Lots of planned activities and live entertainment on Saturday night. A warm community environment.

More Glamp less Camp

Good campground for older adults. Not much in the way camping as much as it’s a community. Good for family visits, they do events for families like cookouts and dances. Very well maintained and super nice staff.

Great place for families

Great place for families. Game room, pool, you can walk a holiday if you would like. Great entertainment on the weekends. Clean bathrooms and up to date. Friendly campers. Baked bean suppers sold on Saturday night.

Alittle extreme on how they choose seasonals.
