General: One of three AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) lodges in Maine’s 100-mile wilderness. This one is located on Long Pond and has 12 cabins plus a bunkhouse. One of the cabins is ADA-accessible. There is a lodge with a living room, dining hall, games, and small store.
Cabin Quality: Eleven of the cabins are very basic with varying amounts of sleeping arrangements. The ADA-accessible cabin has two bedrooms, electric outlets, and a bathroom with a shower.
Bath/Shower house: If you are staying in the bunkhouse or a non-ADA-accessible cabin, the bathrooms and showers are in the main lodge. There is also a sauna.
Activities/Amenities: Three meals per day are included. A hearty breakfast and dinner plus a bag lunch. Dietary restrictions are honored. When there is a small group of guests, meals are served family style; for larger groups, they are served buffet style. Rowboats, kayaks, and paddle boards are available at no additional charge, but the wind was too strong for us to get on the water when we were there. In the winter months, snowshoes are available. You can also cross-country ski from but need to bring your own skis. The hikes are awesome! I hiked the Third Mountain Trail directly from the lodge. Signage was excellent. I also hiked the Gulf Hagas Trail, but this requires a drive to get to either of the two trailheads. Don't even try for cell service!
Note that this lodge and cabins are accessible by an approximately 20-mile dirt road from the west and 15 miles from the east. Your fee includes a hefty parking/road use fee. The staff was very present and provided excellent service during our two-night stay.

I am new to pulling a small camper, and staff was great helping me secure a site that was easy for me to back into, and beautiful. Staff and other campers answered some basic questions graciously. The grounds are well kept and the facilities were clean and inviting. The shop was amazingly well stocked.

We have a 35ft RV, and we faced no issues getting in and out of the property and the sites across the water were level, with no extra leveling needed.

Advertised tent camping….No Vans not allowed in non electrical sites or 20 amp sites. Parts look like a homeless encampment, others look like a junk yard. When we found the owner he was unknowledgeable and rude.

This campground is such a hidden gem. Large level sites, full and partial hookup, wifi, play area for kids, laundry facility, and bath house. Jeff and Lynn have really made it a great place to stay. They are constantly upgrading and looking for ways to make your stay enjoyable. They are extremely knowledgeable of the area and are happy to give advice to share for any adventure you are planning. The wifi was upgraded in 2022 and is lightening fast. I was able to work and take zoom calls with no issues. When in the area again, this will be our only location to consider staying.

The majority of campsites are right on the Dead River in a beautiful region in Maine called The Forks. This area is an outdoor paradise with tons of things to do kayaking, white water rafting, hunting, fishing, hiking, and nature viewing. Riverdrivers has a myriad of overnight accommodations including primitive tenting, RV with electric and water (some just 20A and water and the others 20A/30A and water), cabins with electricity and screened in porch, motel rooms, and a rental home open year-round that sleeps 14.
There is a dump station onsite for RVs. There are picnic tables and fire pits at the camping sites and cabins. Wood is available for purchase at the good price of$10 for a wheelbarrow load. Sites are mostly grass and the road is smooth gravel devoid of any potholes. There are some trees for shade but not many and there is not much privacy between campsites. Obviously, the best sites are right on the water but the majority of those are without hookups. Check out their Facebook page because they offer camping discounts in the past if you mention the add. There are restrooms and showers with 14-hour access and a few port-a-potties scattered about. There is also a dishwashing station. Bathroom facilities were very clean as was the dishwashing station. Horseshoe pits are present but that is pretty much it for amenities, other than the great water view. No online reservation you must call or email them.
The biggest complaint is the loud road noise from big logging trucks. The campground is located directly off Route 201 in West Forks which makes for easy access into the park (but you get the road noise). Across the street is Berry’s General Store with just about everything you need and is a fun old store to roam around. Just up the road is Hawks Nest Lodge which has a great restaurant with full bar. Their outside seating is great for soaking up the sun and watching the rafters on the river. Head over to Moxie Falls for a short hike into one of Maine’s famous falls.

This is a small privately owned campground located at the confluence of the Kennebec and the Wesserunsett Rivers just a few minutes from downtown Skowhegan. Campers are a mix of seasonals and transients with sites varying from pull-thru, back-in, tent and one rental cabin.
We had a long pull-thru site that was located under pine trees which provided welcomed shade since the temperatures were in the high 80’s. The first site we were assigned was in the direct sun so we asked to move to a shady site and they were very accommodating. Some of the RV sites are located parallel to the river so your patio is open to the river and you have an unobstructed water view. However, these sites are fairly short and would not accommodate larger RVs. All other sites are pretty close to each other without much privacy between them. RV sites have cable with 70+ channels. There are a handful of tent sites at the far end of the campground set off on their own and right along the river. The only downside is that they are pretty far away from the bathrooms. The restrooms and laundry were spotless and cleaned daily.
There is a small playground and a nice swimming pool which was clean and had lots of chairs around it for relaxing. There is a nice dock along the river where you can tie up boats and launch a kayak or canoe. One of the nice features is that they offer free use of their canoes/kayaks/peddle boats. You reserve a 2-hour time slot, and they provide you with the paddles and life jackets. There is a game room/arcade for kids to hang out in and there is a pavilion that is open to the public for gathering. One of the downsides is the loud road noise from Route 2. The other thing we didn’t like was that our patio was a mix and sand and dirt which made for a mess in the RV and not a great place for our dog to lay in. We paid$59/night for our full hook-up site which seems a little high for the area, but it was a full hookup site with cable and (pretty poor Wi-Fi).
Overall, we liked this campground and it was a good three-night stay for us as we were traveling through Maine. Downtown is interesting with restored historic buildings housing antique shops, artisan galleries, and restaurants. There is a grist mill and restaurant located in an old jail that sells a wide variety of grains and other Maine-made products. We especially loved the Bankery which is a bakery located in an old bank. Just outside of town is Bigelow Brewery which we recommend visiting. There are a few nature preserves in the area that offer hiking if you are looking for a nice short walk in the woods.

Don’t only take my word for it, check the reviews, on Yelp, Facebook, hell just google“Chris Koa/Holden Maine“ for your self… 1st year fabulous… 2nd year.. we were going to buy the campsite, until my bank and accountant discovered, money laundering, and pocketing of over xxx,xxx, we backed out of the deal to not cause trouble for Chris and Lauren, but little did we know.. 3rd year..multiple harassing messages, dog issue(2lb yorkie)“off leash” we didn’t get a friendly reminder instead a“remove your dogs immediately“ granted we live 3.5 hours away. Noise complaint.. 10:10 pm he received multiple complaint..(none of which were ever true), that we were“ Obnoxiously loud”! And than finally get permanently kicked out for not paying a 35 dollar electric bill“on time” THESE PEOPLE ARE CROOKS, THEY ARE MEAN, the campsite is substandard, water smells like a bog don’t drink it.. the electrical grid can’t hold up.. internet is slightly better that dial up.. they will harass your children, yell at your grandparents.. Save your family the heartache, the money, the stress.. drive 15 miles further and you will be treated like royalty!!! Camp ground is failing… 1 year you couldn’t get a spot!! This year.. it is nearly Vacant… so his attitude and violent outbursts towards his paying customers… is why his campsite will be deserted in a couple of years.. HELP US SPREAD THE WORD!!

TravelerWe discovered this campsite in 2020 and just returned from our third year in a row camping here with 2 kids. We have only tented, but hope to bring a small camper next year. There is a small arcade, store, and 24/7 laundry. Bathrooms/showers are clean and not very busy as most guests are in RVs. Activities started up again this year, with events such as kids’ crafts, a kids vs adults water gun fight, cornhole competition, and a DJ for an evening of dancing - just on the weekend we were there. We love the proximity to the lake with easy access for kayaking and swimming. New ownership this year resulted in some updates, as well as the addition of glamping tents near the beach. The sites are a decent size and the campground is fairly quiet at night.

Located on a beautiful lake, this campground is hard to beat for both activities and a sense of calm. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Due to location, wifi signal is poor, and Verizon and T-Mobile are so so at different times of the day if you need to be connected. Canoes and kayaks can be rented to enjoy the water and scenery, while the crowds of Bar Harbor can be reached in slightly less than an hour.

Stayed Here for one night after picking up a new travel trailer nearby. The staff and campers were all very friendly and welcoming. Much of the population consists of seasonal campers with huge RVs and Motor Homes. It’s very adult oriented, super quiet, and super clean. There are nice little walking trails and a small fenced in dog park where dogs can play. Would definitely stay here again if in the area!

Level gravel most pull through and many big rig sites. About 20 minutes outside Acadia NP, where there are no hookups except for electric on Scoodic..
GuideOur campsite was wonderful, with a view of the bay. Our truck broke down once we got there (luckily at our site and after we were all set up), and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were up and running working 24hrs. It’s a quite, down-to-earth place. Kind of how campgrounds used to be.
ScoutOwners, Judy & Buster have created a camping gem in rural Maine. Grounds are equipped with spacious woodsy sites, two very clean bath houses, a rec room , walking trail, nice sized inground pool, playground for smaller kids, a store with Cafe and a teeny- tiny laundry room.
Buster serves up Bean-Hole Beans every Saturday evening. It's a Mainer thing.
If I had a complaint it would be about the much dated laundry facility only having 2 semi working 1970's washers and only one 1970's dryer. This was a minor problem since the owners are so accommodating and everything else was enjoyable.
My husband, daughter, myself and our labradoodle truly had a remarkable time during our two and half month stay from July til the end of September.

We were able to see moose regularly during evening hours just a few miles from camp. When leaving camp make a left, drive aprox 15 mins and you are sure to see them.

LegendWe decided to stay at Pumpkin Patch because we had friends staying at the campground and wanted to visit them. The park is nice and clean with just a few amenities but just an average campground. This campground caters more to adults and does not have too much for kids to do. Most of the campers were seasonals whose campsites were well-kept and they were quiet. The staff and other campers were very friendly. Sites are very clean and the park is well-groomed with maintenance people always mowing or cleaning sites. There is pretty good space between sites so you don’t feel cramped or right on top of your neighbor. Most sites are level and there are long pull thrus so you don’t have to unhitch if you are only staying one night. There is a mix of sun and shade depending on what site you are in. Our Verizon phone got good reception and our hot spot worked well. The campground wi-fi was decent at our site but that depends on where you are in the park and what time of day you are using it. There is a recreation room for rallies or large gatherings, a small outdoor game area, and a new dog exercise area which has water and toys and is long enough for our Labrador retriever to chase a ball. There are two laundry rooms which were very clean when we looked in. The roads in and out and around the park are wide and easy to maneuver around. Our site was a full hook-up pull thru which was perfect for our one-night stay. All the hook-ups were well-placed and we did not need extensions to connect. We received about twenty over-the-air channels with our television antenna. Nearby is shopping, a grocery, fuel stations, restaurants and more. You are about fifteen minutes to downtown Bangor which has some good restaurants(we like Timber Kitchen and Bar and Blaze), a casino, and a large outdoor concert venue which has big name musical acts throughout the summer. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are about an hour away and definitely worth a visit. We would stay here again if we were passing thru the area but can’t see that there is enough to do nearby to stay for a season. The price was decent for the area($46+tax/night) for a full hookup site but they also offer discounts for Good Sam/FMCA/military/Passport America and have better rates for weekly/monthly/seasonal stays.
