Very large campground sits on the bay. Gorgeous trees to hang hammocks from. The ocean is for wading… shallow waters a good 500 feet out no waves.
We stopped here quickly on a road trip… good thing we didn’t need to stay. Campground is sandwiched between a railroad track and highway. Don’t expect a nice quiet nights sleep! Train came trough twice through the night.
Bathrooms weren’t really clean but usable. Had a pool to cool off in. I think it’s used by hikers for quick pop up sites to sleep since most were gone before 7am. The trailer campers seem to enjoy themselves. To each their own I guess!
If Acadia is full… this state park is a great alternative! My favorite part is the beach!! And 30 mins from Acadia. The sites are ok. A lot on a hill… so level tent camping isn’t the best but mostly private sites. Quick walk to a beautiful beach with lots of rocks and shells to comb through! Sunset was epic!
First four pix are campground beach rest are near by Acadia area.
What a beautiful location! If you plan ahead and get a water front site it’s amazing… but all the sites are roomy and lovely to camp at! I went one summer on the way to Maine and loved everything! Kayaking, swimming area and hiking were all 5 stars! Tried to plan ahead this year and get a prime site to learn they don’t allow dogs anywhere in the campground during summer months. I would of hoped for one loop but NH state parks are anti-dog I guess.
Side note.. campers aren’t respectful of other campers and very noisy here.
30 minutes from beach and has many camping activities! We enjoyed fishing and kayaking. I think the only complaint is our loop didn’t have a bathroom and was a long walk. We camped in a warm April week and the pollen was ridiculous! Perfect campground when Assateague is full!
This campground is for beach lovers! That’s not me and what it gets a 3 star for. I would say 5 star for the wild horse experience. As for the campground, it has no trees or cover. If there is any bad weather and you’re in a tent… good luck. The bugs/fleas are horrible. But it’s right on the water so an easy walk to the beach.
Clean campground with nice lake. Good sized sites with lots of privacy but most are on hill with no pad for level tents. Great hike around lake and fishing. Bonus is if you love chipmunks! There were a lot and they will steal your food!
Nice campground with spacious campground sites. If you like hiking… this park is perfect! Hanging rock is a beautiful spot.. go early cuz it gets busy. Lots of waterfalls as well.
But if you want the lake you’ll have to pay extra per person to use. As well as rent boats & boards… can’t bring your own.
Semi private & large tent sites. Medium size beach and dock to launch kayaks at. Fish weren’t biting for us this weekend!
Campground is beautiful nestled in the hills of Catoctin Mountain. Only 30 minutes north of Frederick. There is a lot of beautiful trails in the area and a man-made lake with two swimming area beaches. The last couple years they have had issues with Alge and have low lake levels. Good for kayaking paddle boarding and small children swimming.
I think I gave this park four stars out of low expectations. Middle of nowhere Guernsey Wyoming the state park wraps around a reservoir with beautiful rock formations. There are campgrounds scattered all over and around the campground. If you were in a big rig this is not the easiest place to camp… Be careful where the office places you if you are in a large trailer RV. There are many switchbacks and some elevation to climb. Once you’re on top at the overlooks it’s very scenic. Be careful of the weather change… Within 24 hours the forecast changed from 80° to 35° fortunately we had a Yurt with wood stove.
This campground was small yet spaced out sites. The best part of this campground was its location. Easy hike down to Sylvan Lake and Store & laundry mat. The lake does seem like it would be very busy in peak summer days. We can’t just as the campground opened up in May. It is also on the scenic highway through Needles Eye Tunnel. Beautiful rock formations in every direction and a rock climbers heaven for sure!!
Nestled amongst the Pines Stockdale north was a quiet campground to visit. The hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating. There was one main bathroom with showers… Probably the cleanest bathroom I’ve ever been in. Additional outhouses were on each loop.
We visited mid week in May. Campground was empty. Rented the one cabin they have $45 has heat/ac and a secluded view of the lake. Bathrooms were a walk and were porta potties. Full toilets and showers were other side of campground. Trees were awesome. If it wasn’t so cold that night we would of camped and hung our hammocks
Everyone should experience the Badlands once! The campground is very simple. No fires and very windy. Our experience was so nice, everyone was nice and welcoming. An assortment of all type of campers and tents. Bathrooms & showers are a 3 star. Some sites are on slopes. But overall a great experience!
We were there in May with cold nights and hot days.
This is our local go-to campground. Anytime we want to get away easily we visit Greenbrier. It has 4 loops near a small lake with swimming and boat launch. Great for kayaking& fishing with kids. There is a dog loop and an RV loop. Sits right off the Appalachian Trail. I think that they have a hiker pick up service.. as I've seen the rangers drop off backpackers into campgrounds. The lake& picnic area is crazy busy during the weekends. I do not camp on weekends here. Which is what gives it a 3 star. I find that the people ruin camping with lack of campground etiquette. But the campground hosts are quick to clean sites. and the park staff are wonderful. Fall time is gorgeous& quiet as well.
