Best RV Parks & Resorts near St. Joseph, LA

    Clear Springs Recreation Area

    Nice family campground

$20, $13 with fed pass. 22 sites. Electric & water hookups. Dump station. Two campground loops - B: Sites 1-12, & A: Sites 13-22. Loop A is prettier that Loop B, but Loop B has more level sites which may be more suitable for larger campers. Camped at site 7 in a camper van. Large site backed against the woods with access to a hiking trail. Not much privacy between sites. Nice family campground. Sites have table, lantern post & fire ring. Picnic Area also in this rec area. Beautiful setting by the lake. Restroom/shower house needs some work. Mens shower stalls have standing water in them - possible drainage issue. Women's toilet stalls also have a similar issue due to a leaky toilet. Bugs were not too bad here in April. No AT&T & T-Mobile service at our campsite, but picked up a weak signal by the lake.

River View RV Park & Resort

    Very nice RV park

This is a very nice RV Park. It’s big. Almost 150 sites, with water, sewer and 30/50 amp electric. There are also a few tent sites with electricity. It’s well kept-grass is mowed, grounds and facilities are clean. There is a playground, a dog park, pool and hot tub. Showers and bathrooms are nice. Laundry room, small grocery/gift shop. And a guest lounge. There is a paved walking trail along the river. There is also a public boat ramp about 1/4 mile away for access to the Mississippi. Internet was sport. With this many Class A motorhomes and people streaming media the server can’t keep up.

    Calling Panther Lake

    Calling Panther Lake Campground

We arrived around 8 pm. I am originally from the Crystal Springs area so expected bad roads, low hanging tree limbs ect... road wasn't great but also wasn't full of pot holes as I expected. There were no low hanging tree limbs, just keep your speed to about 35 and you'll be fine. This is quite possibly the hidden gem of my beloved State of Mississippi. Quiet, No WiFi, T-mobile worked in some locations. We had 35 OTA channels, not that we watched TV but it was available. Park has pull through and back in, level concrete pads with fire pit and table, 50/30/15 electric, water and sewer.

River View RV Park & Resort

    Spacious Campground

Mostly pull through full hookup sites. Nice grass inbetween sites, lots of shade trees, but not all spots shady, concrete pads (not sure if all are but most), gravel on roads, trash pickup at site, lots of grassy areas for walking dogs, some tent sites. Very attentive and friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again, had spot 111 at the end with a great view of the mighty Mississippi River. Accepts Good Sam discount.

Natchez Trace Parkway - Rocky Springs

Looks like a very nice place

I drove through,  The sites are level, clean and about half a pull through.  Each site has a picnik bench fire pit.  However, I did not stay because it had absolutely no Tmobile cell service and being alone and full time.  I did not feel like camping without it.  I did fine another campground on the same road about 150 miles north east. which I stayed at.

Natchez Trace Parkway - Rocky Springs

all Trees, Quiet. A great place to stay overnight on the Natchez Trail

Nice primitive grounds with pull-through and back-in options. Gave a 1 in service because it is a first come first serve. It is a terrific spot to stop and sleep. We camped at Natchez Trace Parkway- Rocky Springs in a Fifth Wheel. Didnt get a chance to take photos, we arrived at dark and left early morning.

    Ameristar RV Resort Park

Good place to stay if you want to see the sites in Vicksburg

Of the 3 campgrounds in the Vicksburg area that we viewed, Ameristar RV Resort park was the best.

The lady in the cg office was pleasant and helpful. Gave us a discount for being a Good Sam member. The office is only open from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. & the pool closes when the office does. You can check in at the hotel front desk after hours. There is shuttle service to the casino and they will pick you up and drop you off at your site.

The sites are all pull-thru and full hookup,  but most are fairly unlevel. Cable tv is available at each site.

The bathrooms and showers are clean and modern. There is no bench to put your things on, but hooks and a towel bar are available. There is also a clean and modern laundry room.  Wifi is available at the office.

There is a short steep grade getting down to the cg.

Guide to St. Joseph

The St. Joseph area offers camping opportunities along cypress-lined waterways where the average summer temperature reaches 92°F with high humidity. Winter temperatures typically range from 35-60°F, making year-round camping possible. Most campgrounds in this region sit at elevations under 100 feet above sea level, contributing to the wetland ecosystem.

What to do

Fishing access: Lake Bruin State Park Campground provides excellent fishing opportunities with boat docks available directly adjacent to waterfront campsites. "The sites by the water have excellent places to dock your boat by your camper," notes a camper.

Swimming options: The area's oxbow lakes offer designated swimming areas for cooling off in hot months. "If you want to swim and you love cypress trees, this is your spot. It's a small park with very clean bath houses," writes a reviewer about Lake Bruin State Park Campground.

Explore historic Natchez: Located 20 minutes from Vidalia campsites, this historic Mississippi town offers numerous attractions. "Just stayed one night while visiting Natchez. The staff was extremely friendly and the park was very clean with great views of the river. Excellent spot to explore Natchez from," reports a camper at River View RV Park & Resort.

What campers like

Mississippi River views: Several RV parks offer direct views of the Mississippi River, providing opportunities to watch river traffic. "The sites were pretty spacious and many have an unobstructed view of the river. There is even a nice paved trail on top of the levee," mentions a River View RV Park visitor.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained bathhouses and grounds at parks near St. Joseph. "The bath houses were super clean, all weekend. The park was full," notes a visitor to Lake Bruin State Park.

Waterfront camping: Direct lake access from campsites is available at Brad's Old Ferry Landing Campground & RV Park. "Brad is kind and wonderful. It is in a beautiful woods. We planned to stay 3 nights. Stayed a full month. Would DEFINITELY come back!" shares one enthusiastic camper.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Most area campgrounds fill quickly during prime fishing seasons and weekends, requiring advance planning. "Water will be hard to come by in peak season," notes a camper at Lake Bruin State Park.

Limited services: Some campgrounds offer minimal amenities and are located far from supply points. "If you are planning on fishing, have your fishing prior to arriving - no place near to get one," advises a Lake Bruin camper.

Park staff knowledge: Quality of information from staff can vary. "The older lady at the front desk knows nothing about this park, I asked her how number six spit was she said I don't camp here I could't tell you!" reports one Lake Bruin visitor.

Site selection: At Plantation RV Park, site quality is important. "The good: Close to everything. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable of area. Level sites. Reasonable price," shares a reviewer who noted noise issues as a drawback.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Some area parks offer designated play areas for children. "This park is quiet and very clean. It has 2 playgrounds for children and a small swimming area that is roped off," notes a Lake Bruin State Park visitor.

Swimming areas: Lake Bruin features a dedicated swimming zone. "Splash pad for a hit for the kids and so was the swim area. We enjoyed kayaking and the pier right out front," reports a camper.

Seasonal considerations: Summer camping in this region means preparing for heat. "We will definitely return when the weather is warmer," mentions a Ameristar RV Resort Park visitor who camped in winter.

Tips from RVers

Site configuration: For RV camping near St. Joseph, Louisiana, waterfront sites often have specific orientations. "The sites along the water are all amazing but 4 & 5 are extra great because they have shade all day and decks," recommends a Lake Bruin visitor.

Levelness matters: Many campgrounds in this area feature level sites, though surface types vary. "Sites were gravel and level. They were very close together. It was quiet most of the time," notes a reviewer at Magnolia RV Park Resort.

Utilities and hookups: Most parks offer full hookups, but amperage and water pressure can vary. "This is a very nice RV Park. It's big. Almost 150 sites, with water, sewer and 30/50 amp electric. There are also a few tent sites with electricity," explains a visitor to River View RV Park & Resort.
