Shreveport Bossier City KOA, located approximately 20 miles northwest of Elm Grove, features tent sites, RV hookups, cabins, and glamping options. The region includes several recreation areas with waterfront access, including Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area and Red River South Marina-Resort, both offering multiple accommodation types.

Most campgrounds in the area remain open year-round, though Louisiana's hot, humid summers and occasional severe weather can affect camping conditions. "A taste of the swamps in north Louisiana. Spanish moss clad Bald Cypress trees in a stereotypical Louisiana lake. Keep your small dogs on a leash or you may feed the gators. Many campgrounds require reservations, especially during popular weekends and holidays. Cell service varies by provider, with Verizon reported as spotty in some areas while T-Mobile/Sprint coverage tends to be more reliable.

Barksdale Air Force Base FamCamp provides affordable tent camping at $4 per night with convenient access to bathrooms and playgrounds. For RV travelers, full hookup sites are available at multiple locations, including Hilltop Campgrounds & RV Park and Cinnamon Creek RV Park. Grand Bayou Resort

    Friendly and Quiet

I stayed at site 29 and the site was clean and level enough for my small camper. I went to plug in the power and the box was very old and no 30 amp plug. It only had a 50 amp and 110v plug. I have a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter but for some reason it was not in my box. I did have a 30 amp to 110v adapter so I had to go that route. There is a nice laundry, men and women’s bathroom with showers. On the men’s side of the 4 toilets 2 were out of service. The showers the water trickles out with little pressure but there was hot water. The showers along the walls need cleaning as there was mildew and maybe mold. The rest of the park was clean. The beach area and peers were very nice. There was dozens of people that are clearly living out here in the campground. Lots of them are really junked up. I paid $32 per night. You can tell this campground is minimally maintained given the broken toilets and unclean showers. The folks I met out here were super nice and very friendly. Fishing is really good and the swimming beach seemed very nice. They do have locked gates with security that makes rounds.

    Love's RV Stop-Mansfield LA 858

    Great staff!

We stayed here overnight on our way from Florida back to Idaho and needed a/c lol. Nothing special here really a parking lot, but hook ups!! The staff was exceptional though! We blew a tire and everywhere was closed, so we had to drive to Shreveport and they let us stay as long as we needed to the next day until we got it fixed. The night staff were awesome too and very informative of the area.

    Sunshine Oaks RV Park

Beware when making a reservation online!

Made a reservation online on our way home from a trip out West. Cancelled the next day due to the National Weather Service forecast for the risk of severe weather for the area. Manager refused to refund our money due to us cancelling less than 5 days of the reservation (duh, we were on our way home) and then argued with us about the weather forecast! Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

    Boles Field Campground

Small Rest stop with dump station

This rest stop has plenty of picnic tables, some grills, restrooms available and a dump station. Ididn't see any camping/ or overnight signs so it should be ok to stay there. Only downside it's that there isn't a lot of spots available for RV/trucks for cars it's ok.

    Red River South Marina-Resort

Don’t go here if you are not going to fish

Campground for fishermen (Probably). Very, like very, dirty toilets and totally unhygienic environment.

You don’t want to be here if you want to relax.

    Lake Bistineau State Park Campground

    Nice state park

Roads in the park have recently been replaced. My spot #46 was nice and level and included a deck. Got in some kayaking. Beautiful lake for paddling. Looking forward to going back. Only wish they had some full hookup sites available. I hear that’s coming soon.

Lakefront access: Many campers appreciate the water views and access. "We stayed in site #6 with great view of lake. Flat site and plenty of distance between sites," reports a camper. The campground offers both water and electric hookups with a dump station available.

Clean facilities: Shreveport Bossier City KOA maintains well-kept grounds and amenities. "Camping in the city. Campground was FULL and we got the last site. Felt safe and secure," notes one visitor. The KOA also features a pool and playground.

What you should know

Weather considerations: Summer brings high heat, humidity, and insects. Prepare for temperatures consistently above 90°F from June through September. "The bathhouse was heated and a welcome chance to shower in something other than a matchbox," mentions one winter visitor to Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area.

Wildlife awareness: Alligators inhabit many water bodies in the region. "Loved this camp ground. Big spacious spot with hookups and several close to Caney lake. They pulled a ten foot alligator out of there so my morning swim was a little faster than usual," shares one camper about Beaver Dam Campground.

Train noise: Some campgrounds experience periodic train noise. "The property is across from train tracks and the train came through around 8 times a day for about 1 minute and it does blow its horn right before reaching the RV Park. I had my air conditioner running and barely heard it," notes a guest at The Trailerhood at Sumrall Farm.

Tips for camping with families

Budget-friendly options: Barksdale Air Force Base FamCamp offers affordable tent sites. "Tent spots are $4 a night, enclosed in a lightly wooded area, and only few yards away from both the bathroom and the playground. It was perfect for our needs. We even stayed a couple extra nights because the kids enjoyed it so much," states one family.

Safety considerations: Many campgrounds provide security measures for peace of mind. "This is a parish ran park that is very well maintained. Security measures are excellent," reports a visitor about Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area.

Kid-friendly amenities: Look for campgrounds with dedicated facilities for children. "Stayed here for one night passing through but had no issues. Clean camp grounds. Friendly staff and neighbors," notes a visitor at Shreveport Bossier City KOA, which includes a dog park and playground.

Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: Cinnamon Creek RV Park provides full hookups for overnight stays. "Check in was effortless. Small but easy to get in and out. Full hookups and cable," shares one RV camper. The park offers pull-through sites with gravel parking areas.

Lake Bistineau limitations: "Great place, good rates. So very quiet and peaceful. Winter deals were great on my budget. Park personnel were awesome. Helped me with a dead truck battery and were just all around wonderful. Showers/bathrooms were spotless. One minor drawback—no sewer sites. I stayed two weeks and had to hook up to dump once," notes an RVer.

Cell service reliability: Coverage varies significantly between providers throughout the region. "I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to stay there again but I was happy enough with my stop. Cell service with AT&T was pretty weak but manageable to get some work done," reports a camper at Lake Bistineau State Park.
