Kayaking and fishing along Saline Bayou draw most visitors to Cloud Crossing Complex, a small Forest Service campground set within Kisatchie National Forest in north-central Louisiana. A free public boat launch gives paddlers direct water access, and one end of a six-mile hiking trail runs close to the campground, so both activities are available without driving elsewhere. Sites are first-come, first-served. No reservations are accepted.
The campground is modest in scale. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, and pull-through spots make it workable for larger rigs. Restrooms are pit toilets, not flush, and there is no electrical hookup. Drinking water and trash service are provided. Pets are not permitted. Reviewers note the area stays quiet at night, and fishing along the bayou gets consistent mentions as a reason to return. One visitor described it as "great for kayaking and hiking," though storm damage has occasionally closed trail sections, so conditions are worth checking before a trip.
Cloud Crossing sits in a stretch of national forest that has places to camp near Kisatchie National Forest spread across different terrain types. Nearby options include Gum Springs Recreation Area -- Kisatchie National Forest to the southeast and Saline Lake Campground to the south, both worth considering if Cloud Crossing fills or if a change of setting suits the itinerary. This campground makes the most sense for paddlers, anglers, and hikers who want direct bayou access without hookups or fees.
