Best Campgrounds near Minden, LA

North Louisiana's lake country surrounding Minden offers a variety of camping experiences centered around water recreation. Beaver Dam Campground, located at Caney Lake Recreation Area, provides spacious lakeside sites with only 29 total campsites, creating a quiet atmosphere with excellent stargazing opportunities. Within a 30-mile radius, campers can access Lake Bistineau State Park, Lake Claiborne State Park, and several smaller recreation areas featuring cypress-lined waterways characteristic of this region. Most campgrounds accommodate both tent and RV camping, while several state parks also offer cabins and yurts for those seeking additional comfort.

Weather considerations significantly impact camping experiences in this region, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, making lakeside camping particularly appealing for cooling breezes. According to one camper at Lake Bistineau, visitors should "keep small dogs on a leash or you may feed the gators. Mosquitoes big enough to land at Barksdale AFB." Most campgrounds remain open year-round, though spring and fall offer the most comfortable conditions. The town of Minden provides convenient access to supplies, as one visitor noted: "Minden has all your grocery needs, drug stores, hardware and chain restaurants."

Lakefront sites consistently receive the highest ratings from campers visiting the area. The cypress-lined waterways create distinctive southern landscapes with Spanish moss draping from trees, particularly at Lake Bistineau State Park. Fishing opportunities abound throughout the region, with boat ramps available at most recreation areas. Campers frequently mention the spaciousness between sites at Beaver Dam Campground, with one noting "flat site and plenty of distance between sites." While some campgrounds like Cinnamon Creek RV Park primarily serve as convenient overnight stops near I-20, others like Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area offer more extensive amenities including wildlife viewing opportunities, with one visitor mentioning "free roaming peacocks" and "a small wildlife sanctuary."

    Grand Bayou Resort

    Friendly and Quiet

I stayed at site 29 and the site was clean and level enough for my small camper. I went to plug in the power and the box was very old and no 30 amp plug. It only had a 50 amp and 110v plug. I have a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter but for some reason it was not in my box. I did have a 30 amp to 110v adapter so I had to go that route. There is a nice laundry, men and women’s bathroom with showers. On the men’s side of the 4 toilets 2 were out of service. The showers the water trickles out with little pressure but there was hot water. The showers along the walls need cleaning as there was mildew and maybe mold. The rest of the park was clean. The beach area and peers were very nice. There was dozens of people that are clearly living out here in the campground. Lots of them are really junked up. I paid $32 per night. You can tell this campground is minimally maintained given the broken toilets and unclean showers. The folks I met out here were super nice and very friendly. Fishing is really good and the swimming beach seemed very nice. They do have locked gates with security that makes rounds.

    Love's RV Stop-Mansfield LA 858

    Great staff!

We stayed here overnight on our way from Florida back to Idaho and needed a/c lol. Nothing special here really a parking lot, but hook ups!! The staff was exceptional though! We blew a tire and everywhere was closed, so we had to drive to Shreveport and they let us stay as long as we needed to the next day until we got it fixed. The night staff were awesome too and very informative of the area.

    Sunshine Oaks RV Park

Beware when making a reservation online!

Made a reservation online on our way home from a trip out West. Cancelled the next day due to the National Weather Service forecast for the risk of severe weather for the area. Manager refused to refund our money due to us cancelling less than 5 days of the reservation (duh, we were on our way home) and then argued with us about the weather forecast! Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

    Red River South Marina-Resort

Don’t go here if you are not going to fish

Campground for fishermen (Probably). Very, like very, dirty toilets and totally unhygienic environment.

You don’t want to be here if you want to relax.

    Lake Bistineau State Park Campground

    Nice state park

Roads in the park have recently been replaced. My spot #46 was nice and level and included a deck. Got in some kayaking. Beautiful lake for paddling. Looking forward to going back. Only wish they had some full hookup sites available. I hear that’s coming soon.

    Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area

    Really nice State Park camping

Big sites, with a lot of them on the water. A lot have full hookups including sewer. Very quiet. Swim beaches and fishing piers. Even got enough cell service to power Verizon hub for tv.
