Within Kisatchie National Forest, Turtle Slide Campground sits near a lake but remains closed to camping. The US Forest Service facility once provided drinking water, showers, and a dump station during its operational years, though pets were not permitted.
A 2020 visitor found the site overgrown with fallen trees throughout the area. The campground appears to have been shuttered for several years, possibly following severe tornado damage. Nature has begun reclaiming the former campsites and infrastructure. Campers can find active campgrounds around Kisatchie National Forest including nearby Beaver Dam Campground, which operates less than half a mile away.
