Pet policies generally allow dogs at most parks, though breed restrictions may apply. Propane refill services are limited, with campers needing to plan ahead by locating fuel stations in nearby communities before arrival.

Mounds State Recreation Area Campground — Brookville Lake

This is a nice little campground. There is a lot of space between campers, and the spots are asphalt and somewhat level. It didn’t feel crowded at all. There are plenty of good hiking trails around and it’s fun to go look at the dam. Highly recommend going to the overlook at sunset!

      East Fork State Park Campground

A large campground spread out over multiple loops. Roads and campsites are paved. Our site #416 was spacious and secluded at the end of a dead end road. The bathhouse was a short hike away and in good condition.

      Lebanon-Cincinnati NE KOA

      Friendly and quiet

There are a lot of people here, but even during the day we hardly hear any loud noises coming from any of the other campers. Walking the property (as much as I can with my cane) everyone is so friendly. The grounds are kept very clean. The people from the office actually do garbage pick-up anytime during office hours! Just place your trash bag/ other items to be thrown away at the front of your site and they take it away. They even have recycling, but you have to take that up yourself. They won't just tell you where it is, they will show you. I haven't been to a KOA site in 15 years and the one I went to was not a great experience, but I highly recommend staying here if you're passing through Cincinnati.

      Deer Haven

      Rough Access

We made reservations to stay here for 3 nights and missed the first night due to damaging weather nearby, (tornadoes in Cincinnati.) On day two when we arrived we found the access driveway to be deeply creviced from washout conditions. We straddled the crevices on the uphill drive but we were unable to make the 90° narrow access to the site, spinning out in the wet grass on multiple tries.

The only option for exit is to back down the driveway, which in our MB Cruiser (8,000+ lbs) was challenging.

The host is extremely communicative and a pleasure to chat with pre-arrival and completely understanding of our dilemma. We chose not to stay the remaining nights.

Had the weather been favorable, access may have been much easier and is definitely passable for car, truck or small van camping. If your turning radius is long, reserve site #1 which may have been passable for us but we did not attempt because that is not what we had reserved, but the host later offered to us. Site #1 is the lower grassy flat with much wider access.

Check with host about condition of driveway and entry before reserving.

Hamilton County Miami Whitewater Forest Campground

      Clean, quiet woods and raccoons

20 & 30 amp service only. Very nice place to kick back and unwind. Dump station is on a hill so it’s tough to get the job done completely.

    Guide to Newport

RV sites near Newport, Kentucky offer varying terrain and accessibility throughout the seasons. Located in the Ohio River Valley at approximately 500 feet elevation, the area experiences humid summers with temperatures averaging 85°F and mild winters that occasionally dip below freezing. Fall camping presents opportunities for observing changing foliage from late September through early November, with moderate rainfall expected year-round.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Tucker's Landing provides direct access to the Ohio River with views of passing barges. "The kids enjoyed seeing the barges going up and down the river. It was very quiet and peaceful," notes Lindsey S. from Tucker's Landing.

Hiking trails: Three Springs Campground features multiple wooded trails through natural terrain. "It has 3 beautiful hiking trails. It is quiet and peaceful with a true camping vibe," according to Three Springs Campground's review of their property.

Water recreation: A.J. Jolly Park & Campground offers lake access with rental options. "The main lake is nice you can rent kayaks canoes. Or use your own boat. The boat ramp is nice," shares Jeffrey D. about the water recreation options.

Golfing: A.J. Jolly Park includes a golf course adjacent to camping areas for those wanting to combine activities. "The park has a golf course" mentioned in reviews, making it convenient for campers who enjoy golfing during their stay.

    What campers like

Lake views: Sites at A.J. Jolly Park offer waterfront positioning. "Close to Cincinnati but each site is wooded and on lake front, lots to do!" reports Anna N. about the camping experience.

Clean facilities: Winton Woods Campground maintains well-kept restrooms and grounds. "Bathhouses were very clean. Entrance was gated. Nice campstore," Jeremy K. notes about the facilities.

Peace and quiet: Many campers appreciate the tranquility at Three Springs Campground and RV Park. "Very quiet campground in a beautiful place surrounded by trees very friendly personal," says Susanne W. about her experience.

Concrete pads: Northern Kentucky RV Park provides level sites with concrete pads. "We stayed one night on our way to pigeon forge, tn. It was neat and orderly," Joe F. comments about the campground's organization.

    What you should know

Train noise: Northern Kentucky RV Park experiences railway disturbances. "The only bad a train horn and noise," Rodney L. mentions in his review, which could impact light sleepers.

Weekend availability: Summer weekends see high occupancy at most parks. "When we went there were only a handful left," Daniel G. reports about Tucker's Landing.

Seasonal limitations: Many campgrounds operate on restricted schedules. "We visited for a weekend in April," shares Lindsey S. about Tucker's Landing, while Thousand Trails Wilmington operates from "April 17 to October 30" according to their listing information.

Site configurations: Some campgrounds have unusual layouts that affect comfort. "The sites I'm at are on a hillside so think theatrical style site. None are level looking so you will need to know what your doing to level your rig," notes Bobby C. at A.J. Jolly Park.

    Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Follow The River RV Resort offers pool access for children. "There is a pool, volleyball courts and a dog park. It is hot in June, so bring a canopy if your RV doesn't have one," advises Jessica G.

Playground access: Winton Woods features play areas for children. "Great campground and park. Plenty to do. Hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, splash park, etc," Jeremy K. shares about family-friendly activities.

Educational opportunities: Three Springs Campground is located just 10 miles from the Ark Encounter. "This is the closest RV Park Campground to the Ark Encounter-only 10 miles south," notes a campground representative, making it convenient for families interested in educational outings.

Shade availability: Some sections at Winton Woods lack tree cover. "Our only complaint would be no shade at the section we were in," mentions Jeremy K., suggesting families should consider bringing shade structures during summer months.

    Tips from RVers

Pad size limitations: A.J. Jolly Park has compact concrete pads. "Pad are about 12 x12 concrete so that's a plus but the location of the pads if you want to use your RV awning means your wheels in what ever your using are going to be nearly off the level area or in the grass," Jeffrey D. explains about positioning larger vehicles.

Utility placement: Many campgrounds have utilities positioned on unexpected sides. "Water hook ups are on the opposite side of electrical on several sites," Jeffrey notes at A.J. Jolly Park, suggesting RVers bring extension hoses and cords.

Cell connectivity: Various campgrounds offer different levels of connectivity. "I use Starlink and T-mobile 5G. The T-Mobile seems to be working best here. The cell booster I have made it go from 'good' to 'excellent'," Emerson F. shares about Thousand Trails Wilmington.

Leveling requirements: Northern Kentucky RV Park offers relatively flat sites while others require more effort. "Sites are pretty level, although we did have to unhook to keep truck from sticking out into road," reports Marci R. about Three Springs Campground.
