Cozy cabin cured my camping craving!

The adorable cabin fulfilled my tiny home dreams and camping craving! The cozy cabin had a queen bed, twin bunks and a sofa that made out to a full size sleeper. Kitchen included a fridge, sink and single cup coffee maker. Coffee k cups were provided in a few different varieties as well as sugar and creamer packs. Bathroom had tub/shower, clothesline to dry swim suits or hand-washed clothes, toilet, sand sink vanity. Bedding and towels were provided and were crisp, clean white. WiFi was a bonus and although it wasn’t the fastest it was very useful when looking up nearby activities. Our cabin had a grill, an outdoor table with four chairs, a swing and a fire pit which we enjoyed our last night there. Staff was friendly and helpful. There were laundry facilities within the park and lots of activities but we didn’t take advantage of any of that during our brief stay. Overall, we were very pleased and would gladly stay again!

Roughing it by a creek and a pioneer village

Basic car tent camping at several spots along a creek wIth picnic tables and fire rings (no hookups, portolet toilets, no showers.) There is a rustic scout cabin/group lodge reservable for scout, etc. groups. The park features a pioneer village with log cabins, including a blacksmith forge, etc. that have been moved to the site.

    Winton Woods Campground

Love this campground for a weekend rendezvous!

Winton Woods campground has spacious paved RV spaces with full hook-ups, fire ring, and picnic table. They also have cabin and tent camping. The location is located on the lake with access to put in a kayak or canoe. The bathrooms are clean, with private combined shower/dressing stalls. There is a playground for children, and a camp store that sells firewood and supplies. I love the tall pines on the property. They made me feel like I was out west. The campground is also near paved and unpaved trails in the park that surround more of the lake which allows for walking/running/hiking and bicycling, fishing, small craft boating, with small craft boat rentals available at the marina. The park also allows for horseback riding, and a small water park for children in the summer.

    Winton Woods Campground

Great county park in a beautiful setting!

This is a great county park! It has a nice “campground” feel set in a large pine trees and wide sites but has 50-amp full hook-up sites. The campground is set in Winton Woods County Park which is about 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati.

There are 123 campsites including RV sites, tent pads, and camping cabins. Most RV sites are back-in but there are 12 pull-thru sites. There is a myriad of sites here from 50-amp full hook-up with paved pads and patios to 30-amp gravel sites. Sites have fire pits, picnic tables. Campsites in the front section (1F – 25F and 1R – 12R) are big rig-friendly with paved roads wide enough to easily maneuver. All utilities worked accordingly and were well-placed in the site. Our 4G Verizon phone got good reception and we were able to get plenty of antenna television channels. The online reservation system is easy to use and gives you an array of sites/cabins to choose from. Be aware that lots of people use this park on the weekends so it can get quiet busy.

There are lots of amenities at this park. Within walking distance of the campground is Winton Woods Lake which has a harbor with boathouse, snack bar, boat rentals and playgrounds. There are miles of paved and rustic hiking trails. There is a camp store, dump station, laundry, restrooms/shower house, boat/kayak launch, and fishing access. Located in the park is a golf course and horseback riding center.

You are within a few miles of everything … grocery, gas/diesel, restaurants, and plenty of shopping. The park is close to I-275 and I-75 making for easy access to major interstates. One place you should not miss is Jungle Jims international grocery and market. This totally eclectic, sprawling "grocery store" has so much to offer. They pride themselves on providing unique foods from all over the world. I could spend hours in this store perusing the isles of which are sectioned off into country and region. There are entire sections on Indian foods, wines, cheeses that you have never heard of, and tanks with live fish ready for the filleting. Also within close proximity is Greaters -one of the country's best ice cream shops (according to Food and Wine). Just down the street is a new person favorite sandwich shop called Izzy's which is famous for their corned beef and delicious potato pancakes.

Loved this park because you have a very nice campsite with 50-amp full hook-up site with lots to do in the area. Our site was level and the roads were easy to navigate in our motorhome. The paved trail around the lake was great for walking/jogging and perfect for launching our kayaks.

We would definitely stay here again.

    Cowan Lake State Park Campground

    Just plain nice

Although it’s quite a bit off the main road, it was a nice place to stay. Gate was manned when we arrived just before 8:00 pm. Clerk told us to book online once we picked our spot, as she had just closed the register. We just chose an open spot that was level as we could see in the dark. Weary from a day of travel, we put our heads on the pillow and were fast asleep. Shortly after 9 we heard several rounds of gun shots; that was alarming because it was well after sunset. All in all it was a nice spot with electric only. Several gray water dumps were situated throughout the campground. Dumpsters were full from I’m sure what was a busy weekend of fall camping. The lake was beautiful with ability to rent kayaks. Frisbee golf was onsite too. Commissary for ice and basic sundries, with playground nearby. We didn’t visit the bathhouse, so I’m unsure of it’s condition. Tenant sites with no electricity were down by the lake. Cabin rentals were in a separate spot, off the lake. All in all, in was a nice place with lots of things to do. More of a destination park, for sure.

    Follow The River RV Resort

    Florence, IN…Nice campground

Park is well maintained. Nice sized pool and very clean pool area. Park has a playground and dog park. Lots of space between campers with cement patio, fire pit and picnic table and lots of trees. We had no issue pulling in our 42’ 5th wheel. We came in after hours and our name with sits number was posted on the door and plenty of maps for the park. Nice layout! You could barely hear a train off in the distance which sounded cozy. Campground is about 30 min from Madison and Ohio River is across the street. Only con- trash cans are like in a whole different country and hard to get too. Would stay again!!!!!

    General Butler State Resort Park

    Great Park to relax

Great little park located just far enough away to get away but close enough to town to run and get something if you forgot it.

Campground is pretty compact but stays pretty quiet. Two well maintained restrooms and shower facilities. Property has a lodge, cabins, pull through, full hook up, and water/power hook up, primitive spots, and day use shelters.

There is a pool and a restaurant are located at the lodge. There are a few hiking trails and a playground for the little ones. There is mini golf canoe and paddle boat rentals available as well.

Free wifi (speed is questionable) but we found 2-3 bars on T-mobile and AT&T.

We frequent this park since it is close to home and the smaller size makes it easier to turn the kids loose. They have enough to enjoy but not so much where we have to be active every second.

    Governor Bebb MetroPark Campground

Nice quiet spot for a few nights out.

This is a nice county park that is being upgraded.  There is a fairly new playground near the camping areas, a new pit toilet building, and a bridge leading to where a new trail system is being created.  There are a mix of Electric and non electric sites.  I think 9 non-electric and 7 electric sites.

Fire rings and picnic tables at every site.  We were able to fit our Escapod (tear drop) camper in a non-electric site.

I think there is more coming in redevelopment of this county park, so it shoudl keep getting better!

Guide to Newport

Cabin accommodations near Newport, Kentucky vary significantly in amenities, layout, and proximity to water features. Most cabin options offer electric hookups and full-service amenities within a 30-minute drive of Newport. Winter availability is limited as several campgrounds like Cozy-Dale and Northern Kentucky RV Park close seasonally from November through March, while others such as Winton Woods Campground Hamilton County Park remain open year-round with heated cabin facilities.

What to do

Kayaking and fishing access: Winton Woods Campground Hamilton County Park cabins provide excellent water recreation opportunities. "I stayed at an electric only spot nestled in the trees by the lake. I was the only RV in this section all week and it was so peaceful and private," writes one visitor who enjoyed the lakefront setting.

Bicycle rentals and trail access: At Olive Branch Campground, cabin guests have convenient access to regional cycling opportunities. "The campground was only about three miles from a trailhead on the Little Miami Scenic Trail. We would definitely return," notes a reviewer who appreciated the proximity to cycling routes.

Year-round nature programs: Stonelick State Park Campground organizes educational activities even during cooler months. The park features multiple trails with informational displays about local flora and fauna, creating learning opportunities for cabin guests regardless of season.

What campers like

Private bathroom facilities: Lebanon-Cincinnati NE KOA receives high marks for their clean bathroom facilities near cabin accommodations. "The bathrooms are amazing and private," wrote one camper, highlighting a feature many cabin campers prioritize.

Variety of cabin layouts: Camp Cedar offers diverse cabin configurations to accommodate different group sizes. "A campground that has full hookups and really neat cabins. The campground was just completed Aug 2021," notes a recent visitor, mentioning the modern amenities available.

Seasonal events: Northern Kentucky RV Park hosts themed weekends throughout their open season. While primarily an RV park, their cabin options allow non-RV owners to participate in these community activities from April through October.

What you should know

Limited winter cabin options: Most cabin providers near Newport close seasonally. Research availability carefully when planning cold-weather trips.

Bedding requirements vary: Stonelick State Park Campground cabins require guests bring their own linens. "We stayed in site 35 and it was very slopey, our levelers only helped a little," notes one camper who experienced terrain challenges at the site.

Reservation timing: During peak summer season, cabin reservations fill quickly at popular locations. Book several months in advance for weekend stays between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Noise considerations: Several cabin locations experience ambient noise. "The freeway traffic is very loud 24 hours and the train comes at least 2 times per night (2am and 5am Sunday night anyway) blowing its horn," reports one visitor to Northern Kentucky RV Park, highlighting potential sleep disturbances.

Tips for camping with families

Playground accessibility: Cowan Lake State Park Campground offers cabin accommodations with convenient playground access. "The campground was filled with parents and kids riding bikes, playing, and having fun. Nobody was out of control or obnoxious," shares a recent visitor who appreciated the family-friendly atmosphere.

Educational options: Several cabin locations offer nature programs specifically designed for children. Look for guided activities that complement outdoor recreation.

Layout considerations: When booking cabins for families, note the sleeping arrangements and proximity to restrooms. "The cabins have both a fire ring and grill. This isn't the case at all Ohio State parks so it was a nice surprise," mentions a visitor who appreciated the cooking options at Cowan Lake.

Swimming access: Not all cabin locations permit swimming in adjacent lakes or ponds. Research water recreation rules before promising children swimming opportunities at your selected cabin location.

Tips from RVers

Cabin alternatives: RV travelers sometimes recommend cabin stays during maintenance periods. "We spent 3 nights here for our maiden voyage as we picked up a new travel trailer from their local dealer," notes one camper who stayed at Winton Woods while finalizing their RV purchase.

Full hookup cabins: Cozy-Dale Campground offers cabin accommodations with RV-style hookups for convenience. "I have been living here for almost a year now and I will have to say it is really nice and well taken care of," shares a long-term resident who found the facilities well-maintained.

Seasonal considerations: Several RVers note that spring and fall offer the best cabin experiences near Newport with moderate temperatures and fewer crowds compared to peak summer months.
