Within Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, Jones Creek provides primitive camping access near Kentucky Lake. The US Forest Service manages this dispersed camping area, which requires a backcountry camping pass for overnight stays.

Campers reach the site via well-maintained gravel roads leading to the boat ramp area, though some access routes demand high-clearance vehicles. The camping spots sit just off the road south of the boat launch, featuring established fire pits in clean areas. Wood tends to stay damp in this lakeside environment, so bringing dry firewood proves helpful. Anglers find the lake productive for fishing, while the location stays relatively quiet compared to developed campgrounds. For those seeking more amenities, Redd Hollow offers developed facilities northwest of this location.

Amazing Primitive Camping

Doesn’t get much better for dispersed/primitive camping. I stayed just south of boat ramp at a spot just off the road. Clean camping area with a fire pit. The lake is beautiful, clean, and very fish friendly. It was quite and secluded. I can’t wait to go back. The entire land between the lakes area is amazing. I’d bring some wood, everything there seemed permanently damp

Actually more stars

Jones Creek was easy to find once we went completely out of our way down 351 off Rt453 in Land Between The Lakes.

If!!! You go down Rushing Creek Rd instead there is a gravel road spur that takes you right there. That being said 351 was a blast in a 4x4.....only drivable in a lifted 4x4.

The gravel road to the Boatramp area is well maintained and if you have your annual back country pass you can primitive camp in the area.
