Best RV Parks & Resorts near Edgerton, KS

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Rutlader Outpost RV Park near Edgerton provides 72 sites measuring 30 feet wide by 60 feet long with both 30 and 50 amp electrical service. The level gravel sites include 24 pull-through spaces with full hookups accommodating larger motorhomes. "We enjoyed our stay, staff was very friendly and the park was clean and easy to get in and out of," noted one visitor about the facility. Walnut Grove RV Park in Merriam offers 50 sites with electric hookups and accommodates big rigs on gravel pads, though spacing between sites is notably tight. Hillsdale State Park's Sunflower Campground features full hookup sites in a more spacious layout approximately 15 miles from Edgerton, with widely spaced sites that easily accommodate larger RVs.

Full hookup availability varies significantly throughout the region, with sewer connections standard at private parks but limited at state and county facilities. Seasonal considerations affect several campgrounds, with Worlds of Fun Village operating only from March through October while most private RV parks remain open year-round. Cell service is generally reliable across the area, with multiple reviewers confirming adequate coverage for streaming and remote work needs. Most parks welcome pets and provide designated dog areas. Dump stations are available at all parks without full hookups. Weekend reservations are strongly recommended during summer months, especially for premium pull-through sites. Storm shelters were specifically mentioned at Rutlader Outpost, an important consideration for motorhome travelers during severe weather season in Kansas.

    Rutlader Outpost RV Park

    Great Campground

We’re from Kansas City and there are very few options when it comes to Campgrounds. This is by far our favorite and their rates are very reasonable. We enjoyed our stay, staff was very friendly and the park was clean and easy to get in and out of. You’re also very close to Hillsdale State Park, but this location has a tornado shelter 🤣

The park: great store, laid out well, gravel sites. Some are back in but most are pull through. Full hook ups- power/water/sewer.

72 Sites: 30' wide, 60' long and level 24 Sites are pull thru All have 30 & 50 amp service

You are within 40 minutes of southern Overland Park, and within approximately an hour (depending on traffic) to Kansas City.

Amenities: Laundry Storm Shelter Showers Meeting room available for RV Rallies (Must Schedule) Fishing Lake

Cellular: service was good, able to stream video, work, Facebook, etc.

Rates as of April 2020 (from their site):

-DAY RATE: $45.00 -CLUB RATE: $40.00 (Good Sam's, FMCA, AAA, Military) -WEEKLY: $215 -MONTHLY: $575 Back In $700 Pull Through (if not paid by due date, Day Rate will apply.)

    Lake Shawnee County Campground

    Perfect little county campground

Beautiful gated lakeside campground in SE Topeka that can accommodate almost any camper type. There are pull through and back in sites. All are gravel with a picnic table and fire ring. The sites are fairly level and easy to navigate. There is a playground, picnic pavilion, swim beach, laundry, fishing dock and 2 clean bathhouses. The sites are close together, but most will have a view of the lake. There are 50 and 30 amp hook ups and water hook ups. No sewer, but there is a dump station on-site. Rental bikes are near the office to ride around the trail that goes 7 miles around the lake. The whole lake area has a lot going on: softball and baseball fields, multiple playgrounds, disc golf, golf course, tennis courts, paddle boat/canoe rentals, amazing gardens, etc. Several restaurants including fast food, pizza, donut shop, Chinese, 2 bar and grills, and Mexican food are very nearby. There is also a Dollar General, urgent care clinic, liquor store and 2 gas stations. It’s a great location just a few miles south of 1-70. Normally sites are $20/night, $18/night for seniors. Highly recommend!

    Walnut Grove RV Park

Close to downtown Merriam and KC

My husbands job took us to Merriam Kansas and we needed a place to stay, we made reservations at Walnut Grove. We were surprised to find it in the middle of a neighborhood. The staff were very nice and helped us into our site. The sites were on gravel and very close to each other. Walnut Grove was both short and long term campers. There were no tent sites. We had full hook-ups, cell service, and free wifi. We had a picnic table and fire ring and could purchase firewood at their store.

During our stay I was awakened to a startling noise and couldn't figure it out until I went outside and saw the walnuts falling onto our camper. By the time we left, everything was covered(stained) tarnish brown. The park is in a walnut grove hence its name. They had a dog run which was not fenced but provided some grass for the pups. They had a laundry mat and clean showers with good water pressure. There also was a strange noise coming from the trees and when I asked the office what it was they thought it was locusts. I knew that was not their noise so I had to find what it was. After searching, I found that it was tree frogs 🐸 and it was their call. So if you are there in September listen and you will hear them, they love the walnut trees.

Sunflower Campground — Hillsdale State Park

    Very Clean and Very Relaxing

The Park: We love this park, it’s massive, and really pretty. They have so much to do (listed below). Sunflower Loop is our favorite and has full hookups. There are more primitive loops as well. It is ADA accessible. There was not a tornado shelter as of 2018. This is one thing that should be mandatory given its proximity and being further away from potential shelter. Excellent camping on the lake. Lots of water activities available.

Sites: level, clear, easily accessible. Sunflower loop is widely spaced and plenty of room for larger RVs.

    Cellular: decent cellular signal.

    Weston Bend State Park Campground

Quiet campground close to many Kansas City attractions

Campground is hilly, sites are level, gravel pads. Lots of space between sites. Electric sites, no water, but water spigots were scattered around the campground. Majority of sites had shade. Most sites are back in, there are 2 pull through sites and 2 family sites. Firewood is available for sale on the honor system near the camp host. Nice shower facilities and laundry available (one washer, one dryer). Regular trash dumpster and also recycling. Pit toilets also available. Dump station across from dumpsters and recycling. Peculiar Park Place

    Shakedown with old friends

This is the campground to be at if you are looking for a staging area just south of the KC area with full hookups, level sites and amazing owners.

Recently downsized our rig and selected this location for the initial shakedown. Had an easy to access pull through site that had 50/30 amp access, water and sewer. Nice landscaping, plenty of place to walk.

Accepts cask or check for payments, propane sold on site. Short drive from Flying J and grocery store

Guide to Edgerton

Camping opportunities near Edgerton, Kansas include several well-maintained RV sites within a 30-mile radius. The region experiences four distinct seasons with humid summers averaging 85-90°F and winter temperatures frequently dropping below freezing. Spring camping from April to June offers moderate temperatures with occasional thunderstorms that campers should prepare for with proper shelter arrangements.

What to do

Fishing access: Lake Paradise Resort features multiple fishing ponds where campers can catch various species. "We camped here in September 2020. There are nice spots right by the lakes with big trees for shade. Roads going up higher past us were a little rough but made for great walks with kids," notes one visitor at Lake Paradise Resort.

Wildlife observation: Pony Express RV Park offers a unique mini-zoo experience. "Campground is off the road with 2 ponds. They also have some llamas as a small zoo," shares a camper about their overnight stay at Pony Express RV Park. This park spans 100 acres of countryside with both pull-through and back-in sites.

Theme park visits: Some RV sites near Edgerton, Kansas provide convenient access to local attractions. "Located on the property there are RV sites and rental cabins. All RV sites were concrete with 50/30/20 amp, water and sewer. The theme park offered discounted tickets when staying at the campground and parking for the parks was included," explains a reviewer about Worlds of Fun Village.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Cleanliness ranks high on campers' priority lists. "The facilities were clean, but older. The site we stayed in was large and level," reports a visitor to Basswood Country RV Resort, where multiple small lakes and well-maintained grounds create a pleasant camping environment.

Proximity to urban amenities: Campus RV Park provides easy access to city attractions. "Just 30 minutes to downtown Kansas City and maybe 15 minutes to arrowhead stadium, this campground is ideal for being close to everything that Kansas City offers. Full hook ups, concrete pads, showers and laundry," explains one reviewer about this conveniently located option.

Level concrete sites: Campers appreciate well-constructed camping pads. "Nice RV Park with concrete pads," states a brief but informative review about Deer Creek Valley RV Park. Another visitor adds more detail: "We just came off 2-3 weeks of hot dirty, dusty, un-level, gravelly, marginally maintained campgrounds and this campground was sheer heaven! Clean level concrete pads with hook ups that worked!"

What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: Reviews frequently mention tight quarters at some campgrounds. "The spaces are smaller although it is in a nice area where it's shady," notes a camper about Lake Paradise, while another visitor to Walnut Grove explains, "My wife called em up last minute, and they had a couple spaces left when nowhere else locally did... I will say, the place is nothing special, in my opinion. Hookups were very easy to access, but spacing is a little tight."

Airplane noise: Some campgrounds experience overhead flight paths. "The campground is on the final approach for the airport, so you get to see a lot planes flying overhead, which you don't even notice cause they are quieter than they used to be," shares a visitor to Basswood Country RV Resort, adding that "they shut down flights around 10pm. At least I didn't hear them."

Security features: Several parks implement safety measures. "They have the property gate guarded at night which is another nice feature," mentions a reviewer about Deer Creek Valley RV Park, while another reports that "it is gated, several spots mostly pull through. The roads and parking spots are all concrete with grass and picnic tables."

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Family-friendly amenities vary across parks. "Every weekend there are organized activities such as arts and crafts, fishing contests, duck races and frozen t-shirt contests in the pool, and a Saturday evening outdoor movie," shares a repeat visitor to Basswood Country RV Resort who has camped there with both children and grandchildren.

Playground access: Walnut Grove RV Park offers family-friendly infrastructure. "Great place for a somewhat long stay. Staff are very nice and sweet, there's free WiFi, lots of pull through spots, has a dump station and allows pets. Overall very family friendly," notes one reviewer about this suburban option.

Pool considerations: Swimming facilities can enhance family camping experiences. At Lake Paradise Resort, a visitor shares, "The pool is renovated and very nice. It is very large, zero entry, up to mostly around 5 ft deep with a small area that was 9ft; there is a children's area with a sprinkler."

Tips from RVers

Free-standing RV stops: Mobile home options exist for short visits. "Stayed for 2 nights for a softball tournament. A very nice RV park just off I35 hidden in a nice quiet suburban area. Sites were gravel and level with FHU. A nice little store on site with free coffee, water and a cappuccino machine," reports a camper about Walnut Grove RV Park.

Pull-through accessibility: RVers appreciate easy access for larger vehicles. "Just stayed for the night and it was an easy set up. Wide open lots that were level and the hookups were all lit up so easy to see at night," shares a visitor to Deer Creek Valley RV Park, adding that "the price was very decent and it served us well for an easy nightly stop."

Severe weather considerations: Storms can impact RV stays. One camper notes about Shady Acres RV Park that they provide "Full hook-ups and a bath/shower house (which doubles as a storm shelter)," highlighting the dual-purpose facilities that offer both comfort and emergency protection.
