Beautiful primitive campground I almost don't want to tell anyone about

$4 individual primitive site

Note: if you cannot sleep to the sound of trains at night, this is not the campground for you. I don't mind them at all, and rather enjoy the sound, but there were probably three of them that went by in the middle of the night rather close to the campground. There's a…

Turner South - NON Electric Campground

Very quiet spot with no electric short walk to Turner Lake.   Spaces are well spaced, some with good shade and others in full sun.   It shares a nice bath house with two other campgrounds on the property, Fox Den and Prairie View.  Two bath room buildings in the campground as well.  Many trails and…

Scout Camping Trip

We spent the first weekend of June 2021 in the group sites (M) at The Whitewater Lake and Hickory Group Sites. It was a very hot weekend for June so by the time Saturday morning came around everyone just wanted to go to Whitewater Lake. We got lucky, the parking was free on June 5&6.

First…

Nice campground.

We were the only tent campers in the whole campground. These sites are good for both. We were on 444 and the site is nice and big only issue was rocks under the dirt, so it was hard to find spots for our stakes. The grounds are pretty. We had rain all of our first day, and our site didn't flood…

Nice quiet place

Stayed here for a week, nice clean campground, quiet and beautiful lake for fishing, close to town, but yet just far enough out. Staff was nice and courteous, have full hookup sites, would highly recommend. We stayed at a back in site, easy access and site had plenty of room on each side

Nice campground

We tent camped in the East loop - site 606. Even though this site is right beside the bathroom, it was surprisingly private. The campground was kind of noisy on a weekend night in August, but overall it was a nice campground with few amenities. There is a trail from the east loop to access the Ice…

Nice camp ground but $$

It’s a nice campground. They have everything from just electrical hook up to full hookup to drive through spots. The pool and bath house is very nice. You can rent a golf cart too. It is a bit in the expensive side for the area but it is nice and we go with some friends 1 or 2 times a year. The …

Fishing and Boating fun

Love going to this campground. Always nice and clean. Bath/showers are very clean with hot water. Nicely kept grounds with a beautiful lake for dock and boat fishing. You can rent boats and they have a nice camping store. Downside, not too many other things to do. Long drive to get into town and…

Hope you have a good boat

It’s a 2 mile drift downriver from the boat launch to the campground. When we were there the river was placid and we had no trouble paddling back when our stay was over. The conditions on the river depends largely on the dam 3 miles up river in Oregon. We have a 17’ canoe, so we had lots of gear…

Weekend Camping with lots of activities

For years, this was our go-to campground for weekend nearby adventures. Over the years, the price has increased and at $30 per site for non-residents, it's a bit steep for tent camping for me (so I left off a star rating). All sites are electric, so if you are tent camping and want your fan or…

Fall Camping at Shabbona

We have been to Shabbona a few times, and have always had a great time!  We really enjoy their pontoon boat rentals and fishing.  The view from our site was great.  Appreciated the little path behind our site that lead to the water.  My kiddos enjoyed hiking throughout and catching frogs.  I was…

Turner Lake South and Mud Lake East most private

This IL state campground fills up quickly on the weekends over the summer. The best sites for those hoping for privacy are in Turner Lake South and Mud Lake East. The campsites are a little bigger in Turner Lake South, I feel, but both have campsites circled by woods with a level place to pitch a…

Really a summer boat haven where people have RVs

We went there first weekend in October, so it wasn’t crowded. The campground is huge, over 400 seasonal sites. For weekend camping, I would only recommend if you want to bring a pontoon and party on the lake. If you’re looking for a scenic retreat, this is not your place. Staff was really nice and…
