      Eagle Creek State Park Campground

      Wooded Solitude / Family Friendly

Review of Drive In Tent Camping Site 2. Showed up on a Thursday night and had our pick of all the drive in and walk in sites. We decided on site 2 in the drive in area. Previous reviews and a book by John Schirle on Tent Camping in Illinois helped us with this decision as well. Decent maintained sites with some older picnic tables and fire rings, but let's be honest this stuff sits outside 24/7. Site 2 seemed to sit back the farthest with site 1 a close second. Both wooded sites that made for great shade and helped some when it was raining. Any two families looking for two sites could certainly set up and share the experience. Nice little cove behind them to try fishing. Just watch the hike down the path or ravine. Dog friendly, fresh water supply (hint put the handle all the way up and wait a few seconds), ability to store stuff in the car close by, outhouse toilets visible at the walk in parking lot, and helpful host for easy check in who even sells fire wood made for a great few days ($5 a bundle). Rated B/S site at a cost of $10 a night.

      A place of memories

One of the first campgrounds I ever went to and when camping in Illinois, my go-to campground and lake. My wife and I love this lake and have a lot of memories here.

The Double J Campground and RV Park

This place has a great location

The bathrooms here were heated and sparkling clean. Our Starlink had zero obstructions worked lightening fast. We LOVED having a dog park to exercise our dogs daily!

Great location, close to all the Springfield attractions and Slauterhaus Brewing in Auburn, IL (this is the best brewery nearby, better than Buzz Bomb or Obed & Issacs in town!).

      Lithia Springs

      Great campground & marina!

Lithia Springs is a great campground with a wonderful marina located on beautiful Lake Shelbyville! We stayed at Site #12 overlooking the lake. The site was large and level although it can be tricky to back into. Also, the site is adjacent to a water observation/access area which invites a lot of foot traffic. This can be frustrating especially if you have pets.

Well-maintained facilities: Campers frequently mention clean bathhouses and grounds. "The camp host came and met me at 7pm on Sunday to get me set up. Wildlife viewing: Early mornings and evenings offer opportunities to observe local fauna. "We woke up to hear the lake lapping at the shoreline," Julie M. writes about Eldon Hazlet State Park, adding, "lots of deer bed down in the grassy areas at night, which was a fun thing to see!"

    What you should know

Weather considerations: Spring camping can bring muddy conditions. "It rained our 1st night there we had a big mud hole asked if there was anyway to get rock and they brought rick to get it dry for us," shares Peggy H. about Country Bend Campground.

Reservation timing: Popular weekends fill quickly, especially holidays. "The campground filled up by 11am on Friday, which was a surprise to us," notes Brooke C. about Eldon Hazlet State Park, recommending early booking.

Site variations: Campgrounds often have different types of sites with varying levels of privacy. "Some sites are spacious, others are pretty cramped," explains Allen S. about Eldon Hazlet, suggesting campers research specific site numbers when booking.

Water quality: Some campgrounds have issues with water systems. "Only complaint that I have was the potable water supply. I filled by trailer's tank at the drinking water supply when you enter the campground. It was extremely dirty with a lot of copper colored solids," reports Allen S. from Eldon Hazlet.

    Tips for camping with families

Easy pull thru site with 40' and toad," shares Jessica T., highlighting the convenience for large rigs.

Site dimensions: Confirm space measurements when booking. "We have a 40 foot rig and just needs to stop for a few hours for some sleep. All the pull through Sites were booked. But that did not stop the park from making us a spot to crash," Kari P. explains about Cedarbrook Camp Ground's accommodating approach.

Pet facilities: Several campgrounds provide dedicated pet areas. "Quiet, family friendly, and great for our dogs. We love the dog yard!" Larry B. notes about Kamper Kompanion, which offers pet-friendly camping near Coffeen with designated exercise spaces.
