Great place to stay and feel part of the community.  Pretty scenery to walk around.  Plenty of lakes/ponds to fish.  We couldn't boat while there due to COVID but look forward to going back and taking our kayaks.  Attentive and Friendly camp hosts. Pet friendly. Close to town if you've forgotten anything or want to have a restaurant dinner. Close to the highway for easy access.  Full hookup available. Monthly or Season also available.

    Country Bend Campground

    Great experience!

Big things happening at Country Bend Campgrounds in Montrgromy Co, IL. This beautiful campground has many things to offer and is only a few minutes from the local drive in movie theater in Litchfield Illinois. It has a pool, swing sets, playground, cabins, ponds with stocked fish, beautiful walking trails, camping, welcome center, baseball field, volleyball, games, horseshoes, paddle boats, miniature golf, and so much more. This family run business is under new management and is welcoming new seasonal campers and day campers with competitive pricing. This beautiful campground is nestled in a scenic area in the country and is pet friendly. It has clean shower houses with warm water. We just purchased our seasonal campsite earlier in the season. Come check out this amazing campground and all it has to offer! Our rough collies will be joining us at this dog friendly campground! There is always something to do here and the owners strive to make it a family place by providing many activities on the weekends. The owners have done an amazing job on this campground and have made it one of the best campgrounds around to create that lasting experience with our children before they grow up!!!

    Country Bend Campground

    GO ELSEWHERE

Our motorhome is a big rig a 42 foot diesel pusher.. They squeezed site was 7 ft wide with little gravel mostly wet grass and mud.Our 40000 lb RV was 8 1/2"ft wide. We were put in a spot by Country Bend Campground not large enough for our vehicle. Not much gravel all mud. Due to a huge tree no satellite service yet the owners stated was good for our 42 ft diesel pusher motorhome and no obstacles. We were sandwiched between two living full time people right next to us. We waited 3 hours to come in since they charge$5 an hour extra for early arrival. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!$$$$ is their goal. They want you to rent their golf carts because everything is so spread out. We have been full timing for two years. This is the worst experience we ever had. No water hookup. We called Kate Tuxhorn the owner and she said sorry i forgot to tell you that you have to tap in your neighbors water. Her husband Jeff Tuxhorn has many bad reviews too.Leaving we hit that huge tree that we had no way to turn. Thousands of$ damage.

    Opossum Creek

    Nice so can be crowded

The Opossum Creek Recreation area is open year-round for the boat ramp and Disabled / children fishing pond and pier. The campground is only open Memorial Day to Labor Day. I camped here in June, however I did the photography in October so there are no campers in the shots. This campground is only about 6 miles from the town of Shelbyville where there is a Walmart, restaurant’s, gas stations, bait, hardware stores, medical care, the Shelbyville Dam, Beach, City Park with lakeside trails and firewood. This proximity to facility’s makes it popular, so having less than 100 campsites it tends to fill up quickly. It is advisable to book ahead on-line if you want to stay here. The sites are nice and the park is clean, but the sites are close together. The boat ramp is well thought out with tons of parking and being close to town is usually busy in the summer season. This campground is also cared for by the Corps of Engineers and seasoned camp hosts man the gate house at the campground. The disabled fishing pond is well stocked so it is easy for wheel chair bound fishermen to catch their daily quota. I recommend this campground for people with motorhomes, fifth-wheels and campers that want to take in the Shelbyville lake town experience while visiting.

    Wonderful layover and family friendly

Timber Trails Campground is a easy layover off of I-70, offering a family-friendly environment. The park provided us an easy in and out, pull-through site that was level and convenient. Coles Creek Recreation Area

    Nice lake, quiet campground

Coles Creek Campground on Carlyle Lake has 219 sites, most with full hookups, and shade. (There is 30 & 50 a as no service). Internet is spotty. There are also 2 group campsites with cabins. There are showers, flush toilet, a playground, fish cleaning station, boat ramp and a dump station. There is also a laundry area. All the campsites are either on the shoreline or a short walk to the lake. The whole campground is fairly flat, so the sites are level and easy to get into. There are a few pull through sites. Comes Creek is on the east side of Carlyle Lake, away from the larger, more crowded Hazlet State Park area. It’s a great place for fishing and boating or just enjoying the lake. The lake is a prime fishing and boating lake, and is recognized as one of the nation's top ten inland sailing lakes.

    Okaw Valley Kampground

    Very Convenient!

This campground is very convenient if you’re looking for a quick stay during a trip. It’s just a short hop off the highway, yet the road noise wasn’t bad. Barb, one of the owners was very helpful and nice. The ground was very squishy due to melted snow and a lot of rain. And Barb apologized for that, even though it’s not her fault. Did not use the facilities. It’s big rig friendly and has pull through sites.

The Double J Campground and RV Park

    Beautiful place!

Beautiful place! We called ahead to see if they had sites available for the next two nights. Arrived just before the office closed at 5:45pm. The campground area past the office is electronically gated and registrants receive a scannable card for entry. Once we had scanned and entered through the gate they escorted us to our pull-through full-hookups site. The campsites are nice and wide, gravel like the roads, with wide grassy areas between and beautiful mature shade trees everywhere. Our site had a picnic table and a small fire ring. Full hookups worked fine.

The campground is next to a large corn field that has recently been cut; I suspect during the growing/harvest season there may be dust and noise from equipment, and perhaps overspray from any chemicals that are dusted on it. This time of year it was nice and quiet. The noise from the highway bordering both cornfield and campground, however, was loud and constant.

Bathrooms were clean and aerated by large fans which were loud but effective.

We would definitely stay here again.

Guide to Coffeen

RV sites near Coffeen, Illinois include several campgrounds within a 30-mile radius, with most parks offering both short-term and extended stay options. Located in Montgomery County where the terrain is primarily flat farmland, camping areas provide access to nearby lakes including Lake Lou Yaeger and Lake Hillsboro. Summer temperatures typically reach 85-90°F with high humidity, while spring camping can involve muddy conditions after rainfall.

What to do

Miniature golf outings: Country Bend Campground offers an 18-hole putt-putt course as part of its recreational amenities. "Family friendly atmosphere, big inground pool, 18 hole putt putt, lots of outdoor games, planned activities on the weekends, shaded sites, and air conditioned cabins! This place is a campers dream with great staff always happy to see you," notes Kate T.

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds near Coffeen feature stocked fishing ponds where guests can fish without leaving the property. At Country Bend Campground, one reviewer mentioned, "Plenty of lakes/ponds to fish. We couldn't boat while there due to COVID but look forward to going back and taking our kayaks."

Walking trails: Explore designated trails around camping areas for light hiking and nature observation. "This beautiful campground has many things to offer... beautiful walking trails, camping, welcome center, baseball field, volleyball, games, horseshoes, paddle boats, miniature golf, and so much more," reports Tara L. about recreational options at Country Bend.

What campers like

Dog-friendly facilities: Most RV sites around Coffeen welcome pets and some offer designated pet areas. "We really enjoyed Kamper Companion! We stay there every time we pass through Litchfield. Quiet, family friendly, and great for our dogs. We love the dog yard!" writes Larry B. about Kamper Kompanion RV Park.

Pool access: Swimming pools provide relief during hot Illinois summers at select campgrounds. "This is a really great campground! Huge campground with a lot of different areas... We really loved the bridges with trails to ponds, and the jumping pillow," says Kaitlin D. about Country Bend Campground's amenities.

Level sites: Many campers appreciate the ease of setting up on properly graded camping spaces. "Just off the highway, but minimal noise. Clean. Well maintained. Pleasant staff. We had a long pull through, but there are a limited number of those," notes Angie G. about Kamper Kompanion RV Park.

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most RV parks near Coffeen operate limited schedules. "Easy on and off, right by highway, pulled in after dark and they met us to show us to the site and got us settled. Easy pull thru site with 40' and toad... came thru in February, so only a few permanent people," explains Jessica T. about winter camping at Kamper Kompanion.

Site conditions vary: Gravel pads can become problematic during wet weather. "The sites are sunk down, poorly rocked and extremely narrow. The majority of sites are backup only, which is a recipe for disaster with all of the rain central Illinois has had this Spring. Be prepared for mud and standing water. 4wd a must," warns Andrea S. about Country Bend Campground.

Highway noise: Many RV parks are located near interstate highways for convenience but may experience traffic noise. "Typical super busy truck stop with bright lights and lots of action but safe and convenient," mentions Julie F. about Love's RV Hookup in nearby Hamel.

Tips for camping with families

Look for activity weekends: Holiday weekends feature special programming at some campgrounds. "Holiday weekends have so many planned activities, some for all ages. We really loved the bridges with trails to ponds, and the jumping pillow. All of the seasonal site people are super friendly and so welcoming," shares Kaitlin D.

Consider cabin options: For those without RVs or tents, cabin rentals provide alternative accommodations. "Family friendly atmosphere, big inground pool, 18 hole putt putt, lots of outdoor games, planned activities on the weekends, shaded sites, and air conditioned cabins!" describes Kate T. about The Double J Campground and RV Park.

Expect walking distances: Some campgrounds are spread out, requiring transportation between amenities. "They want you to rent their golf carts because everything is so spread out," mentions Liz G. about the layout at Country Bend Campground.

Tips from RVers

Water hookup variations: Some sites require sharing water connections. One RVer at Country Bend Campground noted, "No water hookup. We called Kate Tuxhorn the owner and she said sorry I forgot to tell you that you have to tap in your neighbors water."

Site width considerations: Large motorhomes need adequate space for safe parking and setup. "Long spots, friendly owner, easy access to hardware store across the street, coin laundry available. Downsides is wifi is poor, gravel is unlevel, limited menu on DoorDash," explains Kaitlynn B. about Kaskaskia Dragon RV Park.

Pull-through availability: Travelers with larger rigs should inquire about pull-through options. "5 stars because it is as advertised. Staff super nice over the phone, easy pull in, hook ups easy. We called ahead, but arrived after hours, no problems," notes Tracey S. about Kaskaskia Dragon RV Park's accessibility.
