Beyond the Trail RV Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Gravel roads and gravel sites define Beyond the Trail RV Park from the moment you pull in. The campground sits in Defiance, Missouri, directly adjacent to the Katy Trail, a rail-to-trail corridor stretching over 220 miles across the state. RV sites occupy an open meadow, with views across surrounding farm fields toward the hills beyond. Tent sites back up to a wooded edge along the trail. The campground is privately operated and relatively new, which means shade is sparse. Only one row has meaningful tree cover.

The location draws most of the attention from reviewers. A brewery sits at the campground entrance, with a patio and rooftop deck within walking distance of the sites. Wineries are a short drive or ride away, and a canoe outfitter operates on site for Missouri River access. Annie C. notes "firewood for sale on site, really clean new shower house, and great night sky viewing," which lines up with what multiple visitors report about the facilities. The shower house earns consistent praise across reviews.

Full hookups include electric, water, and sewer. Sites are gravel and level, and reviewers note that extensions for electric and sewer connections may be needed depending on your rig's setup. Hookup pedestals are positioned at the front of each site. WiFi is available but Garet W. found it "weak in the two spots I stayed in," and cell coverage gets mixed marks as well. Online reservations allow campers to select a specific site in advance, with same-day booking possible in some cases.

The main practical concern is drainage. Several reviewers flag flooding risk near the creek-side sites after heavy rain, along with mosquito pressure in those spots. The access road is rough, so low-clearance vehicles should approach with care. Campers who want a different setup can browse campsites near Defiance for other options in the area.

Nice campground on Katy Trail bike path

This camp grown is right on the Kathy trail which is over two hundred and twenty miles of a rail to the trail state park. It is also nestled in a small area with lots of wineries and microbreweries , making it a very nice place to stay for a while. Located only about twenty minutes from a major community with all the amenities you need.

Convenient Location

The location of the campground is ideal being located adjacent to the Katy bike trail and within walking distance from restaurants, a brewery and wineries.  The sites are mostly open, small and tight for larger RVs. The roads are all gravel as are the sites and there is limited grassy areas. The site services, electric, water and sewer, are located to the front of the site and extensions were needed for both the electric and sewer. The park has no onsite laundry and there are none in town. If it wasn't for the location I would probably give the park 2 stars.

Great location

Loved this location, clean, micro brewery outside the gate. Immediate access to Katy trail. Bring your bikes or rent e-bikes in town. Lots of wineries nearby and several pub type restaurants nearby. Walmart is 17 mins away.

Wonderful park with great views

Excellent little RV park behind a brewery. The Katy trail borders the park for easy access to town. Beautiful views across a large farm field (soy beans when we were here) to the hills beyond with incredible sunsets. Full hookups with both back in and pull through sites. Definitely will come again!

Quiet campground with clean facilities

Nice basic rv park with full hook ups and a clean shower house. All the roads and pads are gravel and level. Alll the campsites are decently sized and looks like all of them will house 25’ or bigger campers. The Katy trail is right next to the campground for waking or biking. There is also a really nice brewery right wt the entrance. Within walking distance is a really nice winery and a couple bars. All of these places have cold beer and live music on the weekends. My only complaint is they have some drainage issues if it rains a lot. A few of the campsites will flood, not bad enough to get to your camper, but just enough to be annoying.

Full hookup and wineries

Great location to go to all the wineries and restaurants nearby. Brewery just on the other side of the campground with good beer and food. 5/5 if they every paved the campground. Stay away from creek side spot lots of mosquitoes and possible flooding with enough rain.

Nice new campground

Very new campgrounds and course rock/gravel sites. Right on Katy Trail. Very close to wineries and local bars. Clean restrooms and shower house. WIFI wasn’t great when we stayed here twice last year. Office isn’t always manned and they don’t have much selection of the usual camping accessories.

Lovely park, EXCELLENT location

This is just a great park. It is located in a sleepy little winery town. It is just a few minutes from the main part of town with multiple beautiful wineries within a few miles.

The park is bordered by the Katy Trail which will take you into town (and many other scenic places) so bring your bikes!

Just on the other side of the trail is a great brewery with a fantastic patio and rooftop deck. We walked there a few times to enjoy pizza.

Although it wasn’t initially appealing to be set in a field, the views around the park were really nice.

It will improve

We camped there over Halloween, 2020. Brand new. Needs to improve quite a bit! But it’s a great location! Will try again.

It’s all here!

This new little (and fast expanding) campground has it all. A short 5 minute walk to “downtown” Defiance, the campground is right next to the Katy Trail. Forgot your bike? Walk 3 minutes away and rent one. Want to float the Missouri? They have a canoe outfitter on site.  Need a cold beer or hot coffee, it’s right next door at the local brew pub and coffee house. Want to hear live music? You’ve got two biker bars (with pretty good burgers and barbecue to pick from and the wineries are just a short drive or Uber away. Firewood for sale on site, really clean new shower house, and great night sky viewing. And for all the locals, you can get your Ted Drews frozen custard just up the street too. Tent sites back up to woods and the Katy Trail and the rv sites are out in the open meadow. Warning, this place will likely flood if it rains heavy. Which means the mosquitos might be plenty if they don’t spray for them.
