Island Park KOA

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Just over the Idaho border from West Yellowstone, Island Park KOA sits along Route 20 as a drive-in base camp for Yellowstone visitors who want full hookups without the crowds and prices of Montana-side options. Sites are level gravel pull-throughs with grass on the sides, and the layout accommodates RVs up to 68 feet. The tradeoff is noise. As Terrie L. puts it, "Right off the highway, so you hear the road noise," which is worth factoring in if you're a light sleeper.

The campground runs May 15 through October 1 and provides full hookups with electric, water, and sewer connections alongside a dump station, showers, and WiFi. Shade is limited across most sites, which matters on warm summer afternoons. The bathhouse is code-secured for privacy, and the laundry facility draws consistent praise from reviewers. Cell coverage varies by carrier: Verizon users report strong signal and hotspot speeds, while T-Mobile typically holds at one to two bars.

Henrys Lake State Park Campground sits just to the west, giving anglers and boaters a nearby alternative with direct water access. Campers who want to compare places to camp near Island Park will find several options spread across the area, including Targhee Creek to the north and Bootjack Rd. to the south for those leaning toward dispersed-style sites.

The hosts communicate proactively before arrival, and multiple reviewers note staff willingness to go beyond standard service. "Above and beyond all around," writes Kelly S., who also notes the Yellowstone west entrance is under 20 minutes away. Rates run around $91 per night, which puts it at the higher end for the region. This campground works best for RV travelers using it as a staging point for Yellowstone day trips who prioritize hookups and reliable facilities over seclusion or quiet surroundings.

It's a place to stay

I didn't like the $91 per night charge, but other camps cost more. Laundry was $6.50 a load. I was looking forward to a nice hot shower but the water never got even warm. There is a playground and dog park which is a plus

A+ Location and Service

Two days prior to checking in, our hosts texted us, welcoming us and offering to answer questions. Over the next two days, they answered several of my questions prior to arrival. Once we arrived, the excellent service continued. The park is just over the Idaho border, making it quieter than West Yellowstone, but still less than 20 minutes to the entrance. The laundry facilities are new and work very well. The bathhouse is secured with a code, which maintains privacy. Our kids enjoyed the playground and game room. At the end of our stay, our side mirror had come loose, and they loaned us tools to fix it. Above and beyond all around. Highly recommend as home base for your Yellowstone adventure!

Very helpful staff

Tow vehicle broke down about 4 miles from here, limped it to this campground, unplanned visit. Very well maintained grounds, huge laundry facility. There is some traffic noise, but all in all, a good experience. This is across the road from from Lake Henry State Park.

RV sites

Very close spaces and was a bit pricey for a night. Could've stayed at a hotelfor what it cost, but it was full hookups with bathhouse and wifi. Right off the highway, so you hear the road noise

Beautiful views

They escort you to your site. Grass on sides. Gravel to park on. Large sites. Minimal trees. Star Link works great (190 mbs)

Open, safe, and convenient

They advertise that their wifi is about to get an upgrade to fiber, but without that upgrade, the wifi is worthless. Less than 1 mbps on average. Not really reliable. The Verizon connection was really good, and could Hotspot for 120 mbps often. T-Mobile was okay, but not great. 1-3 bars, but almost always 2 bars.

Site was good. Bathroom remodeling went great, and is amazing facility now. There's a little dinner and live theater place across the road that seemed sold out days in advance. 20 miles from West Yellowstone. Haven't had a bear sighting in the camp in over 2 years.

Close to so much.

Don’t judge a book by its cover.  Driving down the road, it didn’t look like much.  Once we pulled in, we quickly changed our opinion.  Beautifully manicured green grass sites with level gravel driveway sites.  All are pull thru.

The bathhouse was out of commission due to renovation,  but it is going to be top notch and modern when they are done.

The laundry mat is in the main building with plenty of units.

There is propane onsite.

A gas station/c store next door.

Close to Yellowstone and Henry’s Fork SP for some of the best fishing and boating around.

The views from the campground are really nice…

There is limited shade and is the main reason for only 4 stars.

Quiet & Close to Yellowstone

We stayed here when visiting Yellowstone and it was close to the west entrance and nice. They were kind enough to let us check in a little late and the campground was nice with pull through spots. You get good cell service at this campground which is really nice since the surrounding area has none.

Nice view

Close to Yellowstone, in the middle of a field, lots of good fishing.
