Grass, shade, and water access define the experience at Murtaugh Lake Park Campground, a small county-run site on the eastern shore of Murtaugh Lake in southern Idaho. The grounds are open and grassy with gravel interior roads, and most RV sites face the water directly. Sites are not heavily delineated, which means spacing between neighbors depends on how busy the campground is. On most visits, campers report arriving to find only a handful of other groups.
The lake is the main draw. Kayakers and paddlers have easy water access, and reviewers describe watching jet skiers from their sites. Worth knowing: some sites have a wall of tall marshy grass between the site and the open water, so the view varies depending on where you land. Signage at the park flags the potential for algae blooms, which is consistent with the agricultural land surrounding the lake. Cell coverage is solid, with multiple carriers reporting full bars throughout.
RV campers can pull in rigs up to 50 feet and connect to electric and water hookups. There is no dump station on-site, though campers note that dump facilities are reachable on the way out. Generators are restricted to emergencies only. The vault toilets have drawn mixed feedback across visits, ranging from clean to poorly maintained, so conditions may vary by season and staffing. "Lots of grass, shade, and water access," notes Kristen Z., who stayed in 2022 and found the site well-maintained for the price. Tent campers should bring a durable ground cover, as gopher and vole activity has left the grass pitted with holes in multiple recent reviews.
Reservations are available. Pricing runs $10 to $50 per night depending on site type, with hookup sites at the lower end of what comparable parks in the region charge. The campground sits roughly 30 minutes from Twin Falls, making it a workable base for day trips into town. A sister campground sits across the bay. Campers wanting dispersed camping nearby can look at Cauldron Linn BLM Dispersed to the northeast, or Milner Historic Recreation Area for a different setting along the Snake River corridor.
