    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Southern Idaho's Murtaugh area features a range of camping environments from lakeside sites to high desert dispersed areas. Murtaugh Lake Park Campground sits directly on the water, offering electric hookups and spacious sites with pavilions, while Cauldron Linn BLM Dispersed camping provides a more primitive experience about 5 miles east. Within a 30-minute drive, campers can access Snake River Canyons Park with free dispersed camping and basic amenities, or opt for more developed facilities at Rock Creek RV Park near Twin Falls. The region's camping options span from basic tent sites to full-service RV parks with hookups, with several county and BLM-managed areas providing budget-friendly alternatives to private campgrounds.

Road conditions vary significantly throughout the area, with paved access to established campgrounds and rougher dirt roads leading to dispersed sites. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F, while spring and fall offer milder conditions ideal for camping. Cell service is generally reliable near Murtaugh Lake but becomes spotty in canyon areas and BLM lands. As one visitor noted, "This campground is a bit off the beaten path, but the setting is worth it. Spacious camp sites, beautiful lake side setting." Water access can be limited at dispersed sites, so campers should arrive prepared with adequate supplies. Weekend reservations are recommended for Murtaugh Lake Park during summer months, as lakeside sites fill quickly.

Waterfront camping receives consistently positive reviews, with Murtaugh Lake Park earning praise for its direct lake access despite some management concerns. One camper mentioned, "Most sites have a pavilion and the sites on the river have direct lake access," though noted limited privacy between sites. The nearby South Hills area offers smaller, more secluded camping options along creeks approximately 20 miles south of Twin Falls. These sites typically include basic amenities like fire rings and picnic tables but fill quickly on weekends. Visitors particularly appreciate the fishing opportunities, with several mentioning trout in the streams and Murtaugh Lake. For those seeking full hookups and amenities, the Twin Falls-Jerome KOA and Anderson Camp RV Park provide more developed options within a reasonable drive.

      Bear Gulch

      Idyllic place

Tons to do here! Long gravel road in- but road was in decent shape when we came. Wildflowers everywhere. Tons of trails, canyons, forest, wilderness etc. Toilets were fine. Spots large, pull thru, with picnic table, grill and some shade. Wish we stayed longer. Very isolated!

      City of Rocks

      Lots of mice! Beware!!

After we pulled in, we couldn’t believe how amazing the sites were. Everything was going great until it got dark and it was time to go to bed. Within a few minutes of hitting the sack, we heard scuffling around the engine area. I opened the hood and two little mice were sitting right on top of the engine. They ran right down to the bottom and just hung out even after a lot of banging on the engine. One of the mice ran all the way back to the tail pipe. These mice are well known to chew your car wiring because the wiring sleeve is made of soy based insulation which mice love to chew on. You might think nothing would happen but then the car wouldn’t start in the morning and you’re left stranded with potentially thousands of dollars of repairs. We tried all the internet’s recommendations: popping the hood open, spreading hot sauce around the car, spraying the engine area with Lysol spray, using dryer sheets…and these just suckers kept coming back.

Needless to say, we scrammed out of there never to return!

Saguaro RV Park at Cactus Petes Resort Casino

      Nice and quiet

Spent two nights here. We stayed in the campground behind the hotel, which was a very quiet. The spaces were fairly well apart. Nice grass, trees and water and full hook ups for only $32 a night. You can either drop money off in a dropbox or you can go inside the casino and pay with a credit card. Showers were clean and plenty of hot water with good pressure. Also a nice city park and dog park about a block down the road behind.

      McClendon Spring Campground

      Beautiful show over the valley

Our Revel van didn’t have a problem navigate the 3.7 miles of gravel road. The first .5 had ruts but Tiffler is a well maintained road. We watched rain storms travel across the valley with lightning, a huge rainbow and a full moon rose over the mountains in the east. Creek was dry and no mosquitoes but some flies from the cows grazing in the fields

      McClendon Spring Campground

      Great Dispersed camp spot!

This was a nice place for a night or two. The vault toilet was clean and stocked with TP. There are a few tables and fire pits to use. It has a small creek and pond that attracts owls. FYI if you use Apple Maps it doesn’t recognize the roads and location and will take you to a house. Use google maps. The coordinates are also correct. I think Apple Maps doesn’t know these dirt roads exist to get to the spot.

    Guide to Murtaugh

Dispersed camping options surround Murtaugh, Idaho, with both BLM lands and established campgrounds providing varied accommodations. Cauldron Linn BLM Dispersed camping area sits along the Snake River, offering primitive tent and RV sites without hookups or facilities. Murtaugh Lake Park Campground provides developed sites with electric hookups, drinking water, and toilets. The region also includes Twin Falls County Murtaugh Lake Park, approximately 3 miles from the town center, which features water and electric hookups in a lakeside setting with both tent and RV sites.

Road conditions vary significantly when accessing dispersed sites near Murtaugh, particularly at Cauldron Linn where a steep dirt road descends into the canyon. The narrow, winding access route limits larger vehicles, making high-clearance vehicles preferable for reaching riverside camping spots. Summer temperatures can be hot with limited shade at many sites, while spring brings variable water levels to the Snake River. Most dispersed areas have no designated fire rings, though campers report creating their own. Cell service varies by carrier but generally remains available at most sites. "The dirt road getting down to the river wasn't bad, but larger vehicles might have a little trouble. I saw an RV parked at the top," noted one visitor regarding Cauldron Linn.

Snake River access constitutes a major draw for campers throughout the area, with several visitors highlighting the waterfront locations and swimming opportunities. Cauldron Linn receives particularly high ratings for its scenic riverside locations and privacy between sites. Campers mention fishing opportunities and small waterfalls visible from many camping spots. Wildlife sightings include rabbits, quail, and various bird species. While some visitors praise the solitude, others note occasional concerns about safety when camping alone. During summer months, some reviews mention insects and limited shade as challenges. According to reviews from The Dyrt, "The area was super clean and beautiful. If you do not have a car for high clearance, just use the upper two camp spots." Several developed campgrounds further from town provide additional amenities like showers and full hookups for those seeking more services.
