Lake Cleveland - East Side

Anglers and swimmers find direct access to Lake Cleveland's clear waters at this Forest Service campground that accommodates RVs up to 60 feet. The east side sites work well for larger rigs, while vault toilets and metal fire rings with attached grills serve the camping area. Campers can reserve sites online, though local visitors often book holiday weekends well in advance.

The one-lane access road levels out as it approaches the lake, revealing the first campsite on the left with views down to the water. Alan B. notes "we could see fish swimming among the rocks from 20' above on the road," and walking down to the shoreline reveals even more trout activity. The lake supports both fishing and swimming, with crystal-clear water that allows visibility to significant depths.

Sites vary in privacy, with some reservable spots positioned quite close together. The campground operates from early July through late November at $10 per night. Cell service reaches the area, and pets are welcome throughout the campground. For campers exploring the region, sites around Sawtooth National Forest offer additional mountain camping options within the same forest system.

The Lake Cleveland Campground West Side provides an alternative just across the water for those preferring tent-focused sites.

Visitors often highlighted the beautiful lakeside location with crystal clear water perfect for fishing and swimming, plus well-equipped sites with fire rings and grills. Some noted close site spacing issues.

Camping with the cows!

High elevation experience with mountain and lake views. Might even see free range cattle in the area!

Beautiful site on the lake

This is a beautiful Campsite right on Lake Cleveland. The East side is great for RV's while the West end is better for Tents. It is hard to get a spot here as the locals tend to camp here during the holiday weekends. You can reserve a spot online, but have to do it well in advance. There are other areas to stay nearby if this campsite is backed up. The lake is great for fishing, swimming or just relaxing. I always enjoy my stays at Lake Cleveland.

Beautiful views but neighbors ruin it.

It's a very nice campground with reserveable sites but those that can be reserved are very close. Reserved site 6 and unfortunately had terrinle neighbors with kids that wouldn't behave and shouted all night long. Completely ruined an otherwise lovely place.

Great Place to Escape the Heat of the Valley!

Driving up to Lake Cleveland I realized that this was the same road we traveled in the winter to get to one of our local ski mountains.  I had never been up here in the summer so I never thought that the road went any further.  So, if you're passing by in the winter time definitely make a stop by Pommerelle and ski some turns!

As soon as you start to level out on the one lane road that leads to the lake you'll be able to see a board and a campsite on your left.  This is the first site for the east side and was one of our favorite sites that we encountered exploring the canyon.  At each of the sites there were metal fire rings with BBQ grills attached and picnic tables.  There were also a few vault toilets scattered around between the sites.  The lake itself was very beautiful and had crystal clear water!  We could see fish swimming among the rocks from 20' above on the road!  Walking down to the lake there were even more trout than we had initially seen, so it would be a shame not to bring a pole up here!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Lake Cleveland Campground located in Idaho?

Lake Cleveland Campground is situated in a high-elevation mountain setting in southern Idaho. The campground is located near Mount Harrison in the Albion Mountains, part of the Sawtooth National Forest. It sits right alongside Lake Cleveland, offering beautiful mountain and lake views. The area is known for its scenic beauty and is accessible via the same road that leads to a local ski mountain during winter months.

How do I get to Lake Cleveland Campground in Idaho?

To reach Lake Cleveland Campground, follow the same road that leads to a local ski mountain. From the nearest town, take the mountain access road that climbs in elevation through the Albion Mountains. The campground is further up this route beyond where winter access typically ends for skiing. During winter months, the road is only partially maintained for ski area access, so summer camping visits require waiting until the upper portion of the road is clear of snow and officially open.

What camping facilities are available at Lake Cleveland Campground's east side?

The East Side of Lake Cleveland Campground is particularly well-suited for RVs, while the West end is better for tent camping. The campground offers reservable sites, though they are positioned relatively close together. Facilities include designated camping spots adjacent to Lake Cleveland with scenic mountain and lake views. The campground provides a high-elevation camping experience in a beautiful natural setting. For guaranteed spots, especially during busy holiday weekends when locals frequently visit, make reservations well in advance through the online reservation system.

When does Lake Cleveland Campground in Idaho open for the season?

Lake Cleveland Campground's opening date varies annually based on weather conditions and snow melt at this high-elevation site. Since the campground is located on the same road that accesses a ski area in winter, the upper portion of this route remains closed until late spring when snow has melted sufficiently. Typically, the camping area becomes accessible sometime in late spring to early summer. For specific opening dates, contact the Sawtooth National Forest office or check their official website for current season information.
