City of Rocks Camp and Climb

Accessible via gravel roads, City of Rocks Camp and Climb provides RV and tent camping just outside the entrance to City of Rocks National Reserve. This private campground charges $15-30 per night and accepts reservations, making it a reliable base for rock climbing and exploring the granite formations.

The campground features level gravel sites spread across open ground with newly planted trees that will provide shade as they mature. Electric and water hookups serve even-numbered sites, with adjacent odd-numbered sites sharing the connections. Kurt Z. notes the setup: "Electric and water taps are on even numbered sites and shared with the adjacent odd numbered site, so if your cord or hose is on the short side choose an even numbered site." The owner accommodates electric vehicle charging and provides free WiFi to offset limited cell service in the area.

Sites face the surrounding hills without current shade cover. The campground sits within walking distance of Almo's amenities, including a grocery store, steakhouse, and hot springs. A dump station operates at nearby City of Rocks National Park Campground for $7 or free with an Idaho Park Pass. Pets are welcome throughout the property, and campfires are permitted at individual sites.

Great option for EVs

The owner, Steve, is super accommodating and cool with charging your EV at the campsite. Electric and water taps are on even numbered sites and shared with the adjacent odd numbered site, so if your cord or hose is on the short side choose an even numbered site. No shade(yet) but great views of the surrounding hills. Close to everything, virtually no road noise. Dump station is a mile and a half away at the entrance to Smokey Mountain campground,$7 or an Idaho Park Pass sticker on your tow vehicle.

Beautiful, no Wi-Fi

Beautiful scenery. We booked through Roverpass #65 and couldn’t find it. The visitor center is a couple miles from the entrance. The visitor center itself has wi-fi, but rest of the area doesn’t. Screenshot the map of the camp ground, which is very spread out. Not every cluster has a bathroom, so bring your own t.p. It’s a stunning area but it wasn’t what we expected - no maps, no Wi-Fi, no bathroom.

Excellent location & views

New park with nice open spaces w mostly level gravel parking. New trees that will provide shade in the future. Water and power sites available as well as dry and tent sites Free wifi which was good because there was no Verizon cell service. Also available at the ranger station. Walking distance to the ranger station and town. Close to the entrance of the City of Rocks. Onsite informal manager and owner both stopped by to ensure we did not need anything. A great experience.
