Free dispersed camping in Sawtooth National Forest, Flat Canyon sits well off the highway on a long gravel road. Campers approaching with a trailer or RV should enter from the Elba side rather than the Oakley side, as the road conditions are notably easier from that direction. The site has room for three to four trailers and includes a picnic table and fire ring. Independence Lakes Campground is roughly 2.6 miles south, making this a practical base for day hikes to the lakes or ATV and UTV riding in the area. Bring your own firewood as a backup, though reviewers have noted wood on-site.
