Red Top Mountain State Park Campground in nearby Acworth offers cabin rentals with electricity, heating, and basic furnishings. Amicalola Falls State Park features 14 well-equipped cabins in two different areas, with five located near Reflection Pond and nine positioned just below the campground. Visitors staying at cabins in Two Wheels of Suchess can access meals from Friday night through Sunday morning at the on-site restaurant. Firewood is typically available for purchase at park offices or camp stores. Grocery stores and supply shops can be found within a short drive of most cabin camping locations, though stocking up before arrival is recommended. Cabins at Barefoot Hills (formerly "The Hiker Hostel") include coffee makers with real coffee provided, and breakfast is served in a communal eating area each morning.

      Cedar Break RV Park

A great find to hang your hat for the evening. New owners look like they are doing amazing up grades. Our site 57 didn’t have a picnic table or fire ring but I’m sure they are working on it. Fairly quite and we would for sure come back and give it a 5 star when their done on the remodel.

      Stone Mountain Park Campground

Welcome center is nice, but the roads and asphalt sites are crumbling. We had a back in site that was fairly level. No real privacy from neighboring sites.

Site 18: Don’t let the “hardest site to back into” reviews scare you! There’s a trick.

We stayed at Site 18, which has a reputation for being one of the hardest sites to back into. There’s definitely a trick to it! Pull your truck forward along the site, then pull out toward the site across from you, making an S-turn. From there, line it up and back in. It's tricky, but doable!

We loved this area and packed a lot into our stay. We visited BJ’s Apple Orchard, stopped at Burt’s Pumpkin Farm (where I somehow ended up with a 150-pound pumpkin 😂), had dinner at Cascades Restaurant, and took the easy way to see the falls.

The fenced-in sites were a huge plus, especially with our pups. It gave them more room to roam. The bathrooms and showers are individual rooms, which was nice, and the welcome center is one of the nicest we’ve come across.

And then there’s THE HILL. I was born and raised in the Smokies, so I’m no stranger to mountain roads, but the incline is no joke! The reviews are absolutely not exaggerating when they say it’s steep. Come prepared!

I have T-mobile and husband has Xfinity and we both have great service. Wifi in the campground gets the job done for Netflix at night.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful area, plenty to explore, dog-friendly sites, and a campground we’d visit again. 🏕️🥾

Beautiful views with lake front camping

Campsite was the perfect lake front spot for our dog’s last camping adventure with us. The resort felt super safe for 2 females traveling with their dog and all campsites and bathrooms were super clean.

      Fort Mountain State Park Campground

      Love this place

Beautiful views from the trails. I went during the summer in July so it was on the busier side. There is a lake with a beach with boat and paddle board rentals. Seemed like a great spot to fish. Prepare for possibilities of bears as they were around. One night I must have not fully secured my bear box and a bear found my cooler. I tent camped on a pad where I can find some service (T-Mobile) but most spots are spotty. Next time I come, I want to try the back country locations. Trails are awesome with a cool story about the place around the tower and fortification. Attendants at the camp store were really nice. If groceries are needed there is grocery stores in the nearest town of Chatsworth down the mountain

      Lakefront Overlook

We stayed at Site #45, and it quickly became one of our favorite campsites because it felt more like a wooded overlook, perched above the lake. The breeze coming off the water kept us comfortable enough to enjoy a campfire even on a hot August evening.

The site fit our 14x10 tent comfortably, but I wouldn’t recommend anything larger. There isn’t a true tent pad, and you’ll notice the slope while sleeping—but the view from inside the tent was priceless. We experienced a four-hour thunderstorm and didn’t have any standing water at our site afterward.

⚠️ The slope becomes much steeper near the shoreline, so I wouldn’t recommend this site for toddlers or anyone with mobility concerns.

🛝 Our 7-year-old loved fishing from the shoreline and thought the steep slope made the perfect slide to get back down to the water. Built-in slide + dirty shorts = happy camper. 😂

🔥 The site includes a clean fire ring with an adjustable cooking grate and a separate standing charcoal grill.

🦟 We didn’t have any issues with mosquitoes during our stay.

🚰 The shared water pump wasn’t working during our visit.

🚽 The bathhouse was spacious, clean, and only a short walk away.

🚗 A community wagon is parked near the bathhouse for campers to use when hauling gear between their vehicle and campsite. Loved that!

      A few tips:

🪵 The Visitor Center sells $6 bundles of firewood and has a nice selection of souvenirs.

🐜 Plenty of flies and large ants, so keep your food put away and your tent zipped.

🪲 Cicadas were loud at night. I loved it, but our 7-year-old slept with his wireless headphones on. If you’re a light sleeper, you may want to pack earplugs if you’re camping here June-August.

🎣 We caught more bluegill fishing from our campsite than we did from the fishing dock.

🌅 If you’re looking for one of the best views in the campground and don’t mind sleeping on a slight incline, Site #45 is well worth considering.

      Winding Waters RV Resort

A Good Choice for Big Rigs Near Marietta

We stayed at Winding Waters Riverfront RV Resort for four nights after picking up our new 5th wheel toy hauler from Three Way Campers in Marietta to thoroughly test all of the RV's systems while remaining close to the dealership if any issues arose. We followed the emailed arrival instructions, checked in quickly, and were escorted to pull-through Site 89 with full hookups. The staff was friendly, service-oriented, and very accommodating throughout our stay. We spent our first night in the pull-through before moving to a river-view back-in site. The staff initially suggested Site 190, but after we noticed it had very little yard space, they happily moved us to Site 193, which better suited our needs. The resort offers several unsecured Wi-Fi networks; we selected the strongest signal and averaged 82 Mbps download and 9 Mbps upload. We received two bars on both Verizon and T-Mobile, and our T-Mobile Home Internet worked well. We didn't bring Starlink on this trip, but with very few trees throughout the main campground, it should perform well in most sites. The pull-through sites are better spaced than many campgrounds of this type, although we still wouldn't describe them as spacious. We appreciated the PVC chairs and round tables found at many sites instead of the typical picnic table, and there are five"Paw Pen" pull-through sites with private fenced pet areas. The nearby dog park consists of two small fenced runs that are adequate for potty breaks but not really large enough to throw a ball. Although the water park and numerous family-oriented amenities are not typically what we look for in a campground, Winding Waters was an excellent place to shake down our new rig.

    Guide to Woodstock

Cabin accommodations near Woodstock, Georgia range from rustic walk-in structures to full-service rental units located within a 45-minute drive. Most properties require advance booking, with state park facilities accepting reservations up to 13 months ahead. Several campgrounds feature waterfront cabin options with direct lake access on Lake Allatoona, a 12,000-acre reservoir that maintains year-round water levels.

    What to do

Hike challenging trails: Fort Mountain State Park Campground offers scenic hiking with varied terrain. "The trails are great, and everything feels spread out. I loved it, as did the rest of the group," notes Shelly C. The park features multiple elevation changes requiring proper footwear and preparation.

Kayak from cabin sites: Marina Resort - Allatoona Landing provides cabins with direct water access. "Very nice lake campground, paved parking pads, lots of foliage, a good bit of lakefront sites," explains Joseph C. Visitors can bring personal watercraft or rent equipment on-site.

Winter cabin getaways: Red Top Mountain State Park remains open year-round with cabin rentals. "This is close enough to metro to make for a quick getaway. The trail around the lake is good and in the winter it is not too far north has to be too cold to get outside in a tent," says Anna R. Winter visitors benefit from reduced crowds while still having access to heated accommodations.

    What campers like

Platform camping options: Fort Mountain State Park Campground offers unique elevated wooden platforms known locally as "Squirrel's Nests." Miranda H. explains, "The site itself was in a beautiful location, had a hand pump on site, and also had a shared bear proof storage box (shared between 2 sites)." These platforms provide a different experience from traditional cabin rentals.

Family facilities: Stone Mountain Park Campground offers comprehensive activities beyond cabin accommodations. "The campground offers everything you would ever need. There are tons of things to do from Golf, hiking, zoo, laser show, food and you can hike the mountain or take a ride to the top," reports Holly B. The park provides free transportation between activity areas.

Accessibility options: Amicalola Falls State Park Camping features cabins with varying accessibility levels. "I read a lot before my trip, so I knew to except the 25% grade incline going up to the campground," shares Traci C. This information helps visitors with mobility concerns choose appropriate accommodations.

    What you should know

Train noise impacts: Several cabin locations near Woodstock experience railway disturbances. At Marina Resort - Allatoona Landing, Logan notes, "The campground entrance is located between 2 railroad crossings... also the trains run pretty close by the campground roughly on the hour." Noise-sensitive guests should request cabins furthest from tracks.

Wildlife encounters: Bear activity occurs regularly at mountain cabin locations. "Two other couples at two separate platform sites had encounters with a bear the same weekend I was here," reports Miranda H. about Fort Mountain State Park. Most cabins include secure food storage, but guests should follow posted protocols.

Variable connectivity: Cell service and WiFi fluctuate throughout the region. "We had inconsistent cell coverage even with a Winegard booster with AT&T and Verizon. Mornings were best reception and evening were not so good," explains Travyl Couple about Fort Mountain State Park. Business travelers should verify connectivity before booking.

    Tips for camping with families

Beach access considerations: Fort Yargo State Park Campground offers lake access from cabin areas. "I have camped here twice. I have nothing but good things to say!!!" shares Terrilynn J. The swimming areas include designated shallow sections for younger children with gradual entry points.

Playground proximity: When selecting cabins for family stays, check distance to play areas. "They have a pool and 2 playgrounds. Great for kids," notes Brandi about Marina Resort. Family-oriented cabins often cluster near recreational facilities but may experience more foot traffic and noise.

Privacy variations: Cabin seclusion varies significantly between properties. "If you're like me and appreciate a bit of privacy when camping, the walk-in campsites at Fort Yargo are the place to go," advises Amalia K. Families seeking quieter settings should request units furthest from main campground loops and amenity centers.

    Tips from RVers

RV-to-cabin transitions: Winding Waters RV Resort offers both cabin rentals and RV sites. James E. notes, "The RV park is enormous, new and extremely well-kept. Our spot was next to the Etowah River and was one of the few that is on gravel and not concrete." Some cabin visitors use this property when transitioning between RV and cabin camping experiences.

Seasonal considerations: Cabin availability varies dramatically by season. "Summer is not as booked, but the office hours are terrible, so even if you can't get ahold of anyone don't be afraid to show up during the summer and talk to the camp host," advises Rachel C. about the Naval Recreation Site. Off-season visitors often find better rates and availability for last-minute cabin rentals.
