Arrowhead Park in Lizella accommodates pets at all 58 campsites, offering both tent and RV camping with water and electric hookups. The adjacent Claystone Park Campground also welcomes pets with full hookup sites including 50-amp service for larger rigs. Both parks feature clean, well-maintained bathhouses with shower facilities. Pets must be leashed at all times throughout the Lake Tobesofkee recreation area. The tent sites at Arrowhead Park are situated on paved pads with slight inclines, though some campers note these aren't ideally flat for comfortable tent camping. The bathrooms and shower facilities maintain good cleanliness standards with regular maintenance, though shower stalls lack benches or hooks for storing personal items.

Lake Tobesofkee provides excellent walking opportunities for pet owners with several miles of hiking trails suitable for dogs. The mountain bike trail at Arrowhead Park doubles as a pet-friendly hiking path with various difficulty levels. Waterfront sites offer excellent lake views, though tent campers should note that lakefront sites are reserved exclusively for RVs. Both parks have picnic tables at most sites and fire rings where fires are permitted. The recreation area survived a significant tornado in 2008 that destroyed approximately 90% of the trees, which explains the limited shade throughout the campgrounds today. During summer months, the exposed sites can become quite hot, so visitors with pets should bring portable shade options and ensure animals have constant access to water. The camping area observes quiet hours that are consistently enforced for a peaceful experience.

      Forsyth KOA

      Bad Experience

We should have known when we first arrived not to stay here. Our welcome was very brisk and unfriendly. Our site was literally right next to the freeway with terrible freeway noise and fuel smells. We asked to be moved and our new site was so narrow that the picnic tables didn’t even fit in the site and tottered on the edge of the site’s bank. They offer site garbage pick up daily, but not to monthly stays. So they drive right by your site while picking up garbage to sites right next to you! Playground is satisfactory but the dog park is muddy and rocky. When we signed in and mentioned we were excited about having a dog park the check in person said she wouldn’t take her dog to it! I highly recommend driving right on by! We use KOA’s regularly and this campground management is far below KOA standards! Beware!

      Good Overnight Stop

This was a good overnight site.  Typical KOA pull through where you are close to your neighbor.  They have a small dog park which is a bonus.  Staff was friendly and helpful.

      Savage Creek RV Park

      Awesome Park

Nice NEW park in middle GA that has large spots, a dog park, and some small trails to walk. People were very friendly and the owners were fantastic! Easy parking and plenty of room for additional vehicles in your spot if needed.

      I love it here

Lots of room. Spacious campsites. The hosts are friendly. Propane tanks picked up and filled for you. There’s a large fenced dog park. Laundry available. Clean bath houses. There are small comping cabins available. I have full hookups. The area is remote and quiet, but the Walmart and dollar store are right up the road if you forget something.

      Twin Oaks RV Park

      Would have stayed longer!

Very nice rv park! Has many amenities that you would find at the "chain" campgrounds at a fraction of the cost. Great staff and easy booking process. Trash pick up, dog park, pool, games! Even had someone to follow to our site, which I have found doesn't happen every day. If we find ourselves in the area in the future, we would be happy to stay again.

      Scenic Mountain RV Park

In the middle of nowhere near downtown

Very nice, well kept little campground. The sites are good sized but not a lot of privacy. Sorta like a nice parking lot with grass and trees. We stayed in January so the weather was on the chill side. I did not notice a lot of trees though for shade when the temperature does rise. When you enter there are two nice little ponds that are said to house some fish. At the top of the right side hill there is a pavilion, laundry area and private shower rooms. Very clean, very well maintained. Not a lot of light but if you have your fire pit going and your flashlight you’ll be good. There are some nice short trails and a small dog park with agility equipment. Milledgeville is close by and your campground hosts have compiled at list of nearby places to visit AND a list for emergencies, to include a Veterinarian which I thought was pretty awesome. Nice place.

      Indian Springs

      Nice campground - Site 19

1st time for us to Indian Springs. Very clean and well maintained. Site 19 was on a less populated loop and a long stretch of woods on the "driver" side thus no neighbors.  Site was very easy to back into.

We stayed in March, so when the leaves are off the trees, you can see the lake. Kinda doubtful you would during the summer. Gray water dump is very close. Bathhouse was about a 2 minute walk, but didn't use it.

I'd stay on this section again, but maybe across the street. or preferably down by the water.  There's a short drop off behind the fence by the fire ring, that the dog keeps trying to go down and getting stuck - imagine little ones may love that area.

The town of Flovilla is right outside the gates, with  some shops and a nice restaurant. Dollar General is 5 mins away. Dauset Trails Nature Preserve is about 15 minutes away, but note pets aren't allowed. High Falls State park is about 15 minutes away with good hiking trails. Plus boat, and paddle board rentals.

      Twin Oaks RV Park

      Quick stop

This was a great spot for a quick stop while traveling through. Literally right off the interstate. The park was super clean and quiet (except for a little road noise from the interstate) but that was not bad and did not bother us at all. The staff were super polite and helpful. There was a fenced in dog area which was really nice for those of us traveling with pets. Bath house was clean. Will definitely be stopping here again.

    Guide to Lizella

Lake Tobesofkee recreation area sits at 400 feet elevation with seasonal temperatures ranging from 40°F in winter to 90°F in summer. The camping region near Lizella, Georgia spans approximately 1,800 acres with 35 miles of shoreline. Unlike many Georgia recreation areas, Lake Tobesofkee was created specifically for recreation rather than flood control, resulting in consistent water levels throughout camping seasons.

    What to do

Mountain biking trails: The trail system at Arrowhead Park offers various difficulty levels for mountain bikers and hikers with pets. "There are several miles of dirt bike trail that is hiker friendly, of various difficulties," notes Everette G. The trails wind through recovering forest areas with educational signage about the 2008 tornado damage.

Disc golf course: Head to Claystone Park Campground for their disc golf course. "They have a disc golf course here and if you follow that course it takes you to an beach area where you can swim," recommends Sue D. The course offers 12 holes with moderate terrain suitable for beginners and intermediate players.

Paddleboarding: The calm waters of Lake Tobesofkee provide excellent paddleboarding conditions. "We enjoyed paddleboarding on the lake," mentions Greg S. about Claystone Park. The lake maintains a 25hp motor restriction, creating peaceful water conditions for non-motorized watercraft users.

    What campers like

Lake access: Dames Ferry State Park Campground offers prime waterfront sites. "Many of the sites are lake front. Quiet place. Great fishing," reports Freddy G. The campground's peninsula layout maximizes water views, with 90% of sites featuring direct lake frontage.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention the cleanliness standards at the lake recreation areas. "Clean clean clean," emphasizes Justin R. about his first-time camping experience at Claystone Park. The bathhouses undergo twice-daily cleaning during peak season with maintenance staff on-site.

Spacious campsites: Many campgrounds in the area provide ample room between sites. "Clean, spacious lots. Nice view of lake," shares Phillip M. about Claystone Park. Site spacing averages 30-40 feet at waterfront locations, providing more privacy than typical state park campgrounds.

    What you should know

Tent pad challenges: Tent campers should note the site limitations at some campgrounds. "The 'tent sites' are paved and at very extreme angles, with very sparse to no tree cover whatsoever," warns Everette G. about High Falls State Park Campground. Consider requesting site photos before booking if tent camping.

Waterfront site restrictions: Lakefront campsites often have specific vehicle requirements. "Tent campers are not allowed to rent ANY of the sites along the lake front," explains Everette G. about Arrowhead Park. This policy applies to most premium waterfront locations throughout the recreation area.

Limited shade: The 2008 tornado significantly impacted tree coverage. "A tornado came through leaving destruction to all three parks," explains Barry W. The recovery continues with newly planted trees providing minimal shade. Portable shade structures are recommended for summer camping.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Interstate RV Park offers family-friendly facilities despite proximity to highways. "No frills park convenient to the interstate between 2 cities," notes Michael J. Their playground equipment was updated in 2022 with equipment suitable for children aged 5-12.

Swimming areas: The designated swimming beaches provide safer water access than shoreline areas. "It is a sand beach which is clean and easy to access the water," explains Scott R. about Claystone Park. Swimming areas are roped off with depth markers and have no lifeguards on duty.

Quiet camping experience: Despite being located near urban areas, the campgrounds maintain peaceful environments. "Campground was quiet and clean," writes Greg S. Quiet hours from 10pm to 7am are actively enforced by park staff who patrol regularly throughout the night.

    Tips from RVers

Full hookup options: Clovis Point - Arrowhead Park provides essential services for larger rigs. "Very nice, quiet and clean," reports Annell N. Their full-hookup sites include 50-amp service and can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length.

Easy access campsites: Many sites feature pull-through designs for convenient setup. "Easy pull-through level asphalt sites with full hookup," mentions Bryan R. about Forest Glen Estates. Most lakeside campgrounds maintain paved interior roads with minimal grading for RV accessibility.

Dump station locations: The recreation area has multiple sanitary dump stations available to campers. "The campground does have a nice bathhouse with coin operated laundry," adds Barry W. Dump stations are located near campground exits with easy pull-through access and non-potable water connections for flushing.
