Several state parks and private campgrounds around Lavonia, Georgia provide furnished cabin rentals with varying amenities. Tugaloo State Park Campground offers lakeside cabins with full kitchens, bathrooms, and climate control systems. Lake Hartwell State Park Campground features more basic camper cabins equipped with window air conditioning units and nearby shower facilities. According to one visitor at Lake Hartwell, "We opted to rent one of their camper cabins. Spartan to be sure... it's dry, solid and has a door. Oh, and it had a window AC unit... but it was plenty cool enough." Most cabins include outdoor fire rings and picnic tables for cooking and dining.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location and price point. Oconee State Park Campground, though slightly farther from Lavonia, offers well-maintained cabins with air conditioning, two bedrooms, full kitchens, bathrooms, and fireplaces. These cabins are scattered around the lake with good distance between them for privacy. Mile Creek County Park features newer, smaller cabins that sleep either 4 or 8 people, with air conditioning, kitchens with stoves and refrigerators, and screened porches. Pet policies vary by location - Mile Creek County Park prohibits pets in cabins, while Tugaloo State Park allows them. Weekday reservations are typically easier to secure than weekends, especially during summer months and holidays.

Most cabins require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and bedding. At Bald Mountain Camping Resort, lakeside cabins include a double bed and fold-out futon that can accommodate up to four people, but guests must bring all their own linens and bedding supplies. Kitchen facilities range from fully equipped with stoves and refrigerators to minimal setups with only outdoor fire rings. Visitors planning extended stays should consider stocking up on groceries before arrival, as on-site stores typically carry only basic items. For cabins without full bathrooms, centrally located bathhouses provide shower and toilet facilities, though distance from cabins varies by campground.

      Thousand Trails Carolina Landing

Sites are not level. Thousand trails is currently not investing. Any money in improving the sites. Half of the sites in the park are going back to nature. The roads are falling apart and the inclines are not big rig friendly.

      Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground

      Badly laid out campground

Whatever person or group of persons designed the campground were clueless as to how to develop a campground. Sites are packed in the most preposterous configuration to have tents, trailers motorhomes all jammed together nearly touching each other with zero privacy. Come for the hikes and views of the gorge but come with the lowest expectations for the campground and you’ll be fine

      Oconee State Park Campground

      On the pond

We camped next to the fishing pier, the site was a bit uneven and I had to do some creative engineering to get my 26' rig level. It has been very quiet during the week. By the way, we have great T-Mobile service.

      Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground

Beautiful park with plenty to do....but campground had a few shortcomings.

We stayed on site #25 in early August but due to the elevation the weather was mild.

There were plenty of activities to keep us busy at the park and the staff was friendly and helpful.

One thing that surprised us and worth mentioning is that even though the park is massive, the campground appears to have been an afterthought as it, and the sites are generally very small. It would be nice to see them expand it and make the changes to increase the size of sites.

Also, as we have seen at other parks kids on e-bikes is becoming a real problem and safety concern. Young children, many not wearing helmets, continually racing around the campground with no regard for speed limits or traffic signs. It is a recipe for an injury or an unfortunate fatality.

Hopefully parks will begin addressing this issue.

      Fort Yargo State Park Campground

      Lakefront Overlook

We stayed at Site #45, and it quickly became one of our favorite campsites because it felt more like a wooded overlook, perched above the lake. The breeze coming off the water kept us comfortable enough to enjoy a campfire even on a hot August evening.

The site fit our 14x10 tent comfortably, but I wouldn’t recommend anything larger. There isn’t a true tent pad, and you’ll notice the slope while sleeping—but the view from inside the tent was priceless. We experienced a four-hour thunderstorm and didn’t have any standing water at our site afterward.

⚠️ The slope becomes much steeper near the shoreline, so I wouldn’t recommend this site for toddlers or anyone with mobility concerns.

🛝 Our 7-year-old loved fishing from the shoreline and thought the steep slope made the perfect slide to get back down to the water. Built-in slide + dirty shorts = happy camper. 😂

🔥 The site includes a clean fire ring with an adjustable cooking grate and a separate standing charcoal grill.

🦟 We didn’t have any issues with mosquitoes during our stay.

🚰 The shared water pump wasn’t working during our visit.

🚽 The bathhouse was spacious, clean, and only a short walk away.

🚗 A community wagon is parked near the bathhouse for campers to use when hauling gear between their vehicle and campsite. Loved that!

      A few tips:

🪵 The Visitor Center sells $6 bundles of firewood and has a nice selection of souvenirs.

🐜 Plenty of flies and large ants, so keep your food put away and your tent zipped.

🪲 Cicadas were loud at night. I loved it, but our 7-year-old slept with his wireless headphones on. If you’re a light sleeper, you may want to pack earplugs if you’re camping here June-August.

🎣 We caught more bluegill fishing from our campsite than we did from the fishing dock.

🌅 If you’re looking for one of the best views in the campground and don’t mind sleeping on a slight incline, Site #45 is well worth considering.

Black Rock Mountain State Park Campground

      Beautiful park with outstanding staff.

Enjoyed a week long stay in late July, being at a higher elevation the weather was great. Sunny and comfortable during the day and cool crisp evenings in the 60's.

The access road is a bit steep but wasn't too bad for our RAM 4x4 pulling a 21 ft. trailer.

There are some larger sites but many of them are on the short side so be sure to confirm it will be deep enough for your needs before reserving.

I have to give a big kudos for the volunteer camp hosts on site, one night at dark there was a storm/tornada watch issues and the hosts and park ranger went to every site and advised everyone to seek shelter in the bathhouses.

The storm passed in about an hour and everyone was safe, but it is GREAT to know that the staff responded in a professional manner to assure everyone's safety.

Loved our stay, everyone was friendly and pleasant, hope we can get back again soon.

      Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground

      Unexpected adventure

Originally intended to do some car camping after a day of hiking but I ended up reserving a camp site and grabbing a tent from a near by Walmart and I enjoyed every minute of it. This may not matter to most but it may matter to some...I am a black male and although I didn't see many people that looked like me, everyone was extremely friendly. Definitely got a lot more attention than I would have liked but at least I knew pple were looking out for me lol. Beautiful scenery, fun trails, fishing, a full outdoor experience.

    Guide to Lavonia

Cabin camping near Lavonia, Georgia offers lakeside relaxation in the northeastern part of the state at an elevation of around 900 feet. The region experiences mild winters with temperatures rarely dropping below freezing and warm summers averaging in the mid-80s. Winter cabin rentals remain popular for off-season anglers seeking less crowded fishing conditions on Lake Hartwell.

    What to do

Water activities at slippery rock: Victoria Bryant State Park features a unique swimming area called "slippery rock" where visitors can wade in cool, clean water. According to Courtney M., "Slippery rock was a lot of fun to take the dogs and wade in the cool clean water."

Fishing from cabin sites: Many cabins at Lake Russell Recreation Area provide direct lake access for fishing without needing to leave your site. One visitor noted, "Beautiful lake for fishing with hiking trails around. There's plenty of dispersed picnic areas for day use."

Hiking nearby trails: Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground offers spectacular gorge hiking with varying difficulty levels. As one camper warns, "The hiking is fun but intense. Be prepared for lots of stairs, a bridge over the water, and rock hopping across the water."

Wildlife viewing: Cabins at Lake Russell provide excellent opportunities for wildlife observation. Elizabeth W. shares that the campground is "Not as cramped & crowded as State parks" with some sites offering "good lake views."

    What campers like

Cabin platforms for weather protection: Victoria Bryant State Park Campground features unique sheltered platforms for tent camping that also work well for cabin-style setups. According to Everette G., "All of the tent sites are sheltered platforms, with electricity, potable water and an overhead light. Rain or shine, you can have a good time (and stay dry) at Victoria Bryant."

Lake access from cabin sites: At Lake Hartwell State Park Campground, campers appreciate the proximity to water. Kenny T. shares, "The cabins are nice, but small and no plumbing. If you're used to tent camping then the cabins are one step above that. Bonus is the air conditioning. Great view in Cabins 1 and 2. Gentle slope to a nice beach as well for those two cabins."

Cabin spacing and privacy: Sites at Oconee State Park offer good separation between cabins. Jessica S. notes, "There are multiple cabins scattered around the lake but they are a good distance apart from each other so you won't be disturbed by your neighbors."

Family-friendly activities: The Point at Lake Hartwell offers organized activities for families staying in cabins. Jackie J. reports, "They had Karaoke & Potluck night while we were there! The laundry/bathhouse area was also nice/clean!"

    What you should know

Winter cabin considerations: Heated facilities are available year-round at some parks. Everette G. mentions Victoria Bryant State Park's "facilities right across the parking lot, that have always been clean and well maintained, and heated in the colder months."

Cabin amenities vary widely: At Oconee State Park Campground, some cabins are fully equipped while others are more basic. According to Jessica S., the cabins include "air conditioning, 2 bedrooms, 1 full kitchen, 1 bathroom, and a fire place."

Cell service limitations: Many cabin areas have limited connectivity. Elizabeth G. reports about Lake Russell, "I have Verizon and I had one bar here. Enough to send/receive a text but that's about it."

Pest considerations: Some cabin locations report occasional wildlife encounters. One reviewer at Oconee State Park noted finding insects in their cabin during their stay, suggesting bringing insect repellent.

    Tips for camping with families

Best cabin sites for kids: Lake Hartwell offers specific cabin sites more suitable for families with children. Kim S. notes, "We stayed at Lake Hartwell State park in site 98 which was a lovely lakeside site. The sites on either side (96, 99) all shared a path to a small beach with lake access."

Kid-friendly water features: Carolina Landing RV Resort offers cabin rentals with additional water amenities for children. Katie D. shares, "It has such a family feel and beautiful grounds, beautiful lake, and easy hook up camp sites."

Off-season family activities: Victoria Bryant State Park hosts special seasonal events for families staying in cabins. Everette G. mentions, "In October, the park does a pretty cool little haunted trail."

Playground access: Tallulah Gorge State Park provides playground facilities near cabin areas. Rachel G. states, "Campground was nice. Sites are open and unlevel but most were a good size. It was great to be able to access trails from the campground. You can also walk to the day use area from campground which has a trail and beach picnic area."

    Tips from RVers

Cabin alternatives for RVers: Tugaloo State Park Campground offers both cabin and RV options, allowing flexibility for groups. Liz H. notes, "Really enjoyed the lakefront campsites. We stayed at site 7 which is a pull through. We had camper and extra car with boat and kayak and fit with a little extra room. Able to kayak right from campsite."

Seasonal considerations: Lake access points vary by water level and season. Celeste C. explains, "This is a great campground. Lots of spacious campsites. Lots of choices. We were lakeside on a pull through that was a bit short for us. The site was amazing we could kayak up to our site."

Site leveling challenges: Many cabin and RV sites require leveling equipment. At Carolina Landing, one camper mentioned, "Our site- A5- was super unlevel. I felt unsafe with our fifth wheel's two left tires up in the air after auto-leveling."

Winter cabin utilities: Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday (formerly Hart State Outdoor Recreation Area) maintains cabin utilities even in cold weather. Jeff A. shares, "Stayed during the coldest of cold days in Dec. '22. That didn't take away from this campground's beauty."
