Description

Utility

Located approximately 1.5 miles north of State Road 20 and accessed off Blue Springs Road North, the Blue Spring Recreation Area features an ADA-compliant ramp and stair access to the spring, an overlook deck of the spring vent, and a pedestrian bridge overlooking a separate karst feature on the site. Visitors can also use picnic pavilions, a pedestal grill, a fire ring, and portable toilet. Three individual campsites are available for use by reservation only. Day-use is allowed from 8 a.m. to Sunset. Please note: The Blue Spring camping area has been relocated and is accessed through the first entrance to the site on Blue Springs Road. The Day Use area is accessed through the second entrance on Blue Springs Road. Blue Spring is one of 11 springs or spring groups, comprised of at least 39 vents, located along the Econfina Creek basin. Blue Spring features three spring vents, and the combined flow classifies the group as a third magnitude spring (flow between 1 and 10 cubic feet per second). Flow from Blue Spring and the other springs along Econfina Creek ultimately discharge into Deer Point Lake, which is the primary source of drinking water for residents in Bay County. To help protect Econfina Creek and its contribution zone, the Northwest Florida Water Management District manages 41,334.18 acres of public lands in the Econfina Creek Water Management Area. (This acreage total includes the Sand Hill Lakes Mitigation Bank, also known as the Fitzhugh Carter Tract.)

A gem to be kept a secret …shhh

Site #1. May. No one else there. Pretty hot during the day - 90s and around 70 at night. But the spring is about a 5 min walk and one can swim whenever. Already made reservations for next year. Beautiful and quiet only 3 sites. Sites good size. Picnic pavilion is excellent.

Tiny and Free

Nice tiny campground in the Florida forest. There are only 3 sites and you must reserve online through the water management district even though it is free.

Porta Potty, garbage cans, covered and paved picnic table and fairly level sites on all 3 spots. All the sites are fairly separate and the middle site, site #1, is a "bump out" style and is more open and close to some swampy water. Sites 2 and 3 are back in and almost completely private.  No one else was there when we were. Mix of sun and shade and the covered picnic tables were a bonus because it added shade. Parking at the sites are sandy with some gravel but we had no trouble in out 26 ft class C. Not a very good spot for huge rigs or big fifth wheels unless you are a master at tight turns and backing in. On the road in is a day use area for the springs and there are hiking trails and picnic tables and grassy areas. There's also access to the water here in the day use area. Overall this is a nice place and we would stay again.

Sheriff drove through on our second day and checked our reservation so be sure to make one. Other than that we only saw one other person drive through. Very quiet but a bit buggy. We had a couple of ticks on us, though not embedded, but they are there and some flying pests as well. Probably worse in late spring and summer. Great place if just passing through or if you want some peace and quiet.
