Turtle Rock Boat-in Campsite

Boat-in access makes Turtle Rock a water-focused camping option along the shores of Blue Mesa Reservoir in Curecanti National Recreation Area. The campsite sits on BLM land managed by the Bureau of Land Management, though reviewers note it remains accessible by 2WD vehicles despite its boat-in designation.

Weekend crowds from the local area can create a livelier atmosphere, while weekday visits tend to be quieter. Portable toilets provide basic facilities on-site. Guiding companies sometimes reserve multiple sites for their clients, which can limit availability during peak periods. Campers should prepare for ant activity in the area. The site works well as a base for exploring the broader region, with Elk Creek - Curecanti National Recreation Area located just over a mile northwest for additional camping options.

Turtle Rock is the bomb.

It can get rowdy on weekends with the locals, but during the week it is great. They have portapotties on site for use. We basically lived here while touring BV. You can access it with a 2WD car. There are plenty of sites, but sometimes guiding companies stake out several for their clients which is kind of annoying. We never had any issues with rangers or getting kicked out even though we stayed here a lot throughout the summer.

** Lots of ants!
