Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access the campgrounds on Red Creek Road?

Red Creek Road is accessible via a gravel road that leads from outside the National Park boundary. Look for dispersed camping spots along this road as you travel. The road is well-maintained near the entrance but becomes more remote as you continue. Since this is a less developed area, it's advisable to have detailed maps and potentially a high-clearance vehicle to access the camping locations. Consider bringing extra water and supplies as facilities are minimal to non-existent in this area.

What type of camping is allowed along Red Creek Road?

Free dispersed camping is allowed along Red Creek Road outside the National Park boundary. This means primitive camping with no designated sites, facilities, or services. Follow Leave No Trace principles by camping in previously used areas, packing out all trash, and properly disposing of human waste. As with most dispersed camping areas, there are likely restrictions on stay length, though you should verify current regulations with the managing agency before your trip.

What are the road conditions like on Red Creek Road for RVs or trailers?

Red Creek Road starts as a good quality gravel road but gradually narrows as you travel further up. While the initial section may accommodate smaller RVs or trailers, the narrowing conditions make it increasingly challenging for larger vehicles. Those with lengthy RVs or trailers should consider camping in spots closer to the entrance or scouting ahead before attempting to navigate the full length with a large rig. The road is not paved, so conditions can vary seasonally and may worsen after rain or snow events.
