Close to the mentioned above.

Bullet casings, trash and constant shots being fired, and with the additional noise of Polaris Razors, other than that a beautiful place to camp.

Options, views, avoid during rainy season

We have stayed in the designated spots down by the stream, and also up the steep, dirt road to the dispersed sites past the designated spots. The spots by the stream are cooler, more shaded but empty in late August. Mid summer they fill up fast so we moved up to the dispersed sites. Hotter up there and be aware the only way up can be at risk of being washed out by torrential rains that are not uncommon in our part of CO during the summer months. Half of our group got stuck an extra day after a heavy rain. Be careful! Overall, gorgeous views, room for kids to run around, even a fun hike next to designated sites. Don't forget to stop in to our hometown Carbondale on your way in or out. The food and brews are the best!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities and facilities are available at Thompson Creek Campground?

Thompson Creek Campground offers basic, rustic camping facilities. The campground features designated spots along the stream that provide cooler, shaded areas for camping. There are also dispersed camping sites available up a steep dirt road past the designated spots. The campground doesn't offer advanced amenities, making it best suited for self-sufficient campers who enjoy a more primitive outdoor experience. Campers should come prepared with their own water and supplies as facilities are minimal.

What do visitor reviews say about Thompson Creek Campground?

Thompson Creek Campground receives mixed feedback. The streamside designated spots are highly appreciated for their shade and cooler temperatures, especially during hot summer months. The area is noted for its natural beauty and stream access. However, the campground has experienced issues with noise from recreational vehicles like Polaris Razors and firearm use in the vicinity. Some campers have reported finding trash and bullet casings in the area. The dispersed sites up the dirt road tend to be hotter but may offer more solitude during busy periods.

Do I need reservations for Thompson Creek Campground?

Reservations are not required at Thompson Creek Campground, but they're highly recommended during peak season. The designated spots by the stream fill up quickly during mid-summer months. If the main camping area is full, dispersed sites are available further up the steep dirt road. For the best chance at securing a prime streamside spot, arrive early, especially on summer weekends. During late August and off-peak times, finding an available spot is typically easier.
