High-clearance vehicles are a firm requirement at Soap Creek Road, a dispersed camping area within Curecanti National Recreation Area in Colorado's Gunnison country. The access road and individual spots are rough enough that Class A and Class C rigs should not attempt entry. Multiple dispersed sites are available, with at least one well-regarded pull-in that repeat visitors return to specifically. Nearby, Soap Creek Corral & Coal Mesa Horse Camp sits less than a mile north for those needing different accommodations. Campers who can handle the approach will find a genuinely remote dispersed experience worth the extra planning.
