Midland Bike Trail Dispersed

This free dispersed camping area operates on a first-come, first-served basis along a single-lane road that extends about a quarter mile from the parking area. The Bureau of Land Management maintains roughly half a dozen designated sites scattered along this route, with two porta-potties available at the main parking lot. Campers must stick to designated spots only, as enforcement of this rule appears consistent.

Sites sit on flat, dry ground with clear views toward Mount Princeton and the Collegiate Peaks. The road access works for most vehicles, though larger RVs may find maneuvering challenging on the narrow track. Kate S. notes the area offers "beautiful views of the Collegiate Peaks" from sites positioned farther up the trail. Early and late season visits tend to be quieter, with fewer competition for spots.

The area connects directly to bike trails, making it popular with cycling enthusiasts. Cell service reaches most sites. Some campers report local wildlife, including rabbits that have apparently grown accustomed to vegetable scraps from previous visitors. Sites farther from the parking area provide more privacy and distance from any road noise.

For those wanting full hookups and amenities, Buena Vista KOA sits less than a mile away.

Visitors often highlighted the spectacular Mt. Princeton views and flat, dry campsites along this dispersed area. Several reviews noted porta potties available and good van access, though limited spots can fill up quickly.

Beautiful views, wildlife and quiet

Beautiful views of the Collegiate Peaks. We were here in April so not busy, we grabbed a site pretty far up on the trail so it was very quiet and peaceful.

Quiet and good views

The road up for about a quarter mile was one lane not too bumpy. Campsite was quiet with great views of the peaks. Early October 2025.

There's not many spots that I found.

No spots the first time I came so I spent the night in the parking lot which I don't think counts as designated. Found 1 open one a week later. Wish there was more. Plenty of space for it. 2 porta johns at the parking area. Seems like people have been giving the bunnies veggies! I'll allow it.

Amazing views

Several sites, not sure how many. First come. The views from some of Mt.Princeton are amazing. I drove my van up no problem but bigger RVs may be challenging.
