Dutch George Campground

About

National Forest

Dutch George Campground is a lower-elevation campground located adjacent to Colorado Highway 14 and is a great place for Poudre Canyon campingIt is primarily an open flat area but there are cottonwood and ponderosa pine trees within the riparian zone of the river, providing shade to some of the campsites. This campground is well-suited for larger RVs due to the highway access, paved interior road, and longer parking spurs. There are 20 sites available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site contains a tent pad, fire grate and picnic table. Popular activities in this area include fishing, four-wheel driving, and simply relaxing near the scenic Cache La Poudre River and Wilderness Area.

Great family and pet friendly camping

The drive into the Poudre Canyon is a beautiful one. We camped Thursday to Sunday. Spots are scarce and were full by Friday mid day.

Some sights have shade, some do not. We got lucky site 2 had shade till around mid day then we used our pop up to keep cool during the rest of the day.

All sights are walking distance to river access with spots to swim, hang out, and even do a little mini cliff Jump.

We even caught a John Craigie Concert at the Mishawaka.

Amazing weekend overall. Usually so dispersed camping but this was a awesome pay to play spot.

Great fishing access campground is nice

We opted to not stay and go down to mountain park instead. The sites were basically full sun and right on the road with no buffer. Great views and a great fishing spot that we came back to and fished.

Wonderful one night

BikePacking in the Poudre Canyon made possible by Dutch Gorge’s first come first serve use. We never did see the manager but the location and places were pristine and beautiful. Sites are basic with bear box, fire pit (with grilling grate), and picnic table.

CHECK WEBSITE Campsite Closed

This campsite as well as every one past ansel watrous on 14 is closed due to trying to control an influx of unwanted long term camping. Be extra sure to check the website before going (unlike me!).

Great spot by the roaring river!

Wonderful time spent here. Bathrooms are exceptionally clean, plenty of trees for hanging hammocks, river access from every campsite.

Best riverside sites ever!

This campground is spacious and quiet and has the best riverside campsites. We stayed in site 10 for the night. Plenty roomy enough. Just steps from the river that roared all night long. We woke up to a crisp 46° this morning. Host was friendly. Neighbors were friendly and told my husband to watch for a doe and her fawn that comes to the meadow across the river every evening. The sky was filled with stars after sunset. Beautiful place!

Gorgeous little stop

This is a small campground, but that's what makes it so great! Perfect for a stop-along-the-way because it's right off of 14. Beautifully placed right at the curve of the Poudre, there is a short walking trail next to it,a perfect hammock place in a shallow runoff, a spot to tether tubes or paddleboards in an eddy, a picnic table at each spot and fire pits with adjustable height grates. Very clean and when we were there the firewood was stocked. Simply gorgeous views and not too loud despite being so close to the road. Good for maybe 2-3 sites together at the same time but it's not large group friendly. No hookups.

Serene, clean and great access

We lucked into an awesome spot over the 4th of July, arriving Thursday afternoon - Sunday. The restrooms were clean and well stocked, the campground was incredibly quiet because of the rushing river sounds and it was beautiful. We stayed in #9 and 10 on the East loop. Site 10 is very wide but doesn't have much shade BUT if the river is high this is the best spot for kids as there is a large rock in the middle of the river that creates a gentle pool/gulley right in front of this spot. There are great trees all around for hammocks and shade. No hiking from this location unless you swim first and don't mind a rattlesnake or two but nearby Mountain Park has a nice hike. We will be back.

We also scoped out sites 19 and 20 which had a sandy area along the river that would work well for kids.

Site 8 is GORGEOUS but has a huge rock dropoff that would be terrifying with small kids. No great tent spots either except right on the trail but if you have a small RV the views sitting on top of the rocks are stellar.

Friendly, great hosts keep it all well maintained. No cell service from any of the carriers.

Great stay on the River.

We showed up around 4pm on a Saturday and there were about 4 spots available. We stayed at site #8 and really enjoyed our view. It had a bear box, fire pit, picnic table, a bench close by and a beautiful view of the river. Restrooms were very clean and did not smell bad. They have firewood for sale at the camp managers Rv. Would definitely stay here again.

Just along the river

Dutch George is located along the river in the Poudre Canyon. Fairly close to the road but any noise is drowned out by the sound of the river. Clean rest room and wood for sale. Unfortunately we did. not see any hikes from the campground but there are several in the canyon itself. We arrived early on a Monday and there were still spaces available late in the day.

Beautiful camp ground

This is a great camp ground on 14. It's of of the road enough that the noise isn't an issue, also right on the water. There are a couple of great sites that are private and shaded. Still close enough to Fort Collins if you need to run in. Also very close to Mishawaka, great place to grab a bite and maybe a show.

Peaceful Campground

My wife and I camped here over memorial day weekend and found this campsite to be very peaceful. It is directly adjacent to the river and offers a very pleasant back noise of flowing river water. The campground host were very accommodating and the compost toilet’s were some of the cleanest I’ve ever seen. The drinking water was also very good, however you don’t want to run the faucet very fast otherwise you kick up sediment from the pipes. This is a very remote campsite that is at least 30 minutes from Fort Collins and any amount of services. There is a very neat restaurant/bar called the Mishawaka that is about 7 miles away that I recommend you visit if you camp here.
