Reservations open sites 1 through 32, all with electric hookups, while sites 33 through 54 run first-come, first-served with no hookups and some positioned just a few feet from the Cache la Poudre River. Mountain Park sits along Highway 14 in Poudre Canyon within Roosevelt National Forest, operating from late May through September with nightly rates ranging from $41 to $185. The highway runs on the opposite bank of the river, so road noise is present, though during spring runoff the river largely covers it. No cell service reaches the campground; the nearest reliable signal is a 10 to 15-minute drive west toward the town of Rustic.
The campground is larger than it first appears, with multiple loops spread across forested and more open terrain. Ponderosa pines provide shade and some separation between sites. Sites include fire rings, picnic tables, and leveled tent pads. Coin-operated showers and vault toilets are distributed throughout the loops, and multiple reviewers single out the restrooms as unusually well-maintained, cleaned several times daily by on-site hosts. Brent K. called them "the cleanest vault restrooms I have ever seen." Firewood is available for purchase from the camp hosts.
Anglers fish the Cache la Poudre directly from camp, with trout among the reported catches. A trail along the river connects to several nearby routes, and the Mt. McConnel Trailhead shares the campground parking lot. Wren H. notes "hiking, biking and horseback riding trails are in the surrounding area," including the William R. Kreutzer National Recreation Trail and Young Gulch Trail. A group area features volleyball and basketball courts, a playground, and horseshoe pits. Supplies and a restaurant are available roughly 8.5 miles west at Glen Echo.
Summer weekends fill up fast, particularly the river-adjacent sites. Reservable electric sites book out in advance, so planning ahead matters for peak season. The electric hookups mean generators are unnecessary, which keeps ambient noise lower than at many comparable campgrounds. Those who prefer more solitude may find the density of sites and proximity to other campers less appealing, but the layout does give options ranging from riverside spots to more sheltered hillside positions. Campers wanting a quieter or more dispersed experience can look at Kelly Flats Campground, located less than a mile west along the canyon.
