Willow Creek - Sonoma Coast State Beach

Where the Russian River approaches the Pacific, Willow Creek sits tucked away from main roads with quarter-mile walk-in access from the parking area. Campers carry gear along the path to reach sites that include picnic tables and fire rings, with a composting toilet and water spigot located near the entrance trail.

The hike-in design keeps visitor numbers manageable compared to drive-up campgrounds. Dark skies provide clear stargazing opportunities away from urban light pollution. Casini Ranch offers full-service camping with RV hookups for those preferring drive-up convenience.

This spot is great.

This is a cool little campground right on the Russian. It’s kinda tucked away and not too busy, which made it perfect by my book. You sort of have to “hike” in about a quarter mile from the parking area and there are no real amenities to speak of except for a composting toilet and a faucet for water located by the path in. The stars at night are fantastic, and Jenner and Guerneville are close enough so you can run out and pick up anything you might have forgotten to pack in. Seriously, 5 stars.
