Best Campgrounds near Jenner, CA

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Campgrounds near Jenner, California include options spread along the scenic Sonoma Coast and Russian River areas. Bodega Dunes Campground and Wright's Beach Campground, both within Sonoma Coast State Park, provide tent and RV sites with ocean proximity. Ocean Cove Store and Campground in Jenner offers direct coastal access with both walk-in and drive-in sites. Several facilities in the area accommodate different camping styles, from basic tent spots to full-hookup RV areas, with a few properties like Porto Bodega Marina & RV Park and Casini Ranch Family Campground also offering cabin rentals for those seeking more shelter from coastal conditions.

Most campgrounds in the region operate seasonally, with many closed during winter months due to coastal storms and flooding. According to one visitor, "Recent flooding has closed this park and it is a shame. We walked through and saw no reason for closure." Campers should verify operational status before planning trips, especially during rainy seasons. Reservations are typically required for established campgrounds, with sites often booking up months in advance for prime waterfront locations. Ocean Cove Campground stands out as one of the few first-come, first-served options, operating from April through November. Temperatures remain moderate year-round but coastal winds can be significant, particularly at exposed beach locations where proper tent staking and wind protection become essential.

The proximity to the Pacific Ocean creates distinctive camping experiences throughout the area. Several visitors mentioned the sound of waves as a highlight, with one noting: "We stayed in site 2 which is smaller than the others and didn't have a full ocean view but still slept great listening to the waves off the ocean." Campgrounds along the Russian River, like Casini Ranch, offer calmer water settings with additional amenities including showers, hookups, and recreational activities. Wildlife sightings are common, with campers reporting osprey, herons, and even river otters. Beach access represents a primary draw for most coastal sites, though swimming is often discouraged due to dangerous rip currents and large waves. Many campgrounds feature thick vegetation between sites, creating natural privacy screens despite relatively close spacing.

    Amazing Campsite During Fall

Went there last week of Nov 25. Place was beautiful! Felt like I was Bella in twilight being taken by Edward into the forest >_<. 10/10 recommend. I was in Campsite D (Walk in only). All the walk in campsite are beautiful. The others have water views except our site (D). Took 3 dogs. There is a ton of raccoons so plan accordingly. They don’t give one single F

    High Valley Ridge

    Stunning Vistas

There are numerous pull-outs and campsites along this High Ridge Road with absolutely breathtakingly stunning views of the valley to the east and the lake to the west. It is primitive camping to be sure but you will find nothing more beautiful and peaceful than this. While there are a few campsites with foliage canopies, most are in the Sun and where I stayed it is entirely sunny all day with equally beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Verizon is two bars. The road coming in from the north is easy though it can be rutted and bumpy in spots as well as narrow. Overall it's an easy Road for van lifers and vehicles with reasonable clearance. Pulling a small trailer up here would also be straightforward. This is not an area for large rvs. It is about a 45 minute drive into town with full services. It's not far but a very slow drive.

Bodega Dunes Campground — Sonoma Coast State Park

    Noisy lighthouse, excellent campground

Pack earplugs if you are not a deep sleeper, keep reading to find out why. The campsite is located in a unique location near the pacific coast highway 1. There are large trees and sandy dunes to explore. There's a little bird under habitat protection, so no dogs on trails, but you can take your dog walking on Marshall beach just a few miles up north on the coast. There's a RV park with a friendly little cafe with sunny outdoor seating and honey lavender lattes back down south. The campground is quite large and bushes give excellent privacy. The state park staff offer a large cardboard box of firewood for $10 dollars. Lower light pollution makes for good night sky views. Unfortunately the proximity to the highway and a lighthouse make the night noisier than it should be. The boat horn from the lighthouse can be heard every 10 seconds blasting faintly, but loudly enough to make falling asleep tough, I used earplugs which made this maneageable, but the lighthouse starts the horn interval at nightfall and doesnt stop sounding the horn until 6AM. The amenities like a sink and indoor bathrooms make up for this.

The Aurora RV Park & Marina

    Good short stop

It’s a cute little campground, conveniently located right on the lake. There are a few sites directly at Lake side and Moore across the street. Generally well kept looks a little older. Has showers and washrooms.

Putah Canyon - Lake Berryessa USBR

Fish splash cows moo, and great lake views

The campsites have various placements on the hill and two walkable peninsulas. The sunrise is wonderful from the views on the hillside campgrounds. Has amenities but since it's by the lake the firewood was damp and made getting a fire going a struggle of feeding it more and more bundles of dried pine. The highway is within earshot and cars can be heard faintly going by. I did see mosquitos, only few, and they were not trying to bite often (Nov 2025). There's a farm keeping cows which moon all night. The stargazing is great and there's a periodical splash of a fish from the lake. Overall great and would go again, maybe site 118 next time, but 117 was close to the lake and a parting in the trees made a great lookout.

    Marin RV Park

    If you're in a pinch...

Not sure how to justify $100 a night even after a good Sam discount but if you're in a pinch...sure. It's very tight spacing, no privacy in between lots so be prepared and skilled if you have a bigger rig. My 34 foot trailer took some time to get in. They don't have traditional posts where you would expect the water to be so bring extra hose. We got flooded out as well...

Guide to Jenner

Camping near Jenner, California spans both coastal and river environments with Russian River campsites providing shelter from coastal winds that regularly reach 30-40 mph along exposed beach locations. Temperature variations between inland and coastal campsites can differ by 15-20 degrees, with fog regularly blanketing coastal campgrounds through mid-morning, especially during summer months. Jenner's location at the mouth of the Russian River creates distinct camping experiences within a 10-mile radius.

What to do

Beach exploration: 5 miles of coastline at Ocean Cove Store and Campground offers coves and tide pools accessible during low tide. "There are many coves or inlets you can climb down into to look at tide pools," notes Nicole H., who has camped here for over three decades. The campground's cliffside position provides wildlife watching opportunities with "otters playing below" according to Ray B.

Kayaking: Russian River access at Casini Ranch Family Campground includes kayak rentals by the beach area. "Casini Ranch is a great campground, right off the river. You can kayak down the river and the campgrounds have a big variety of sizes, some on and off the river," says Wes R. The river provides calmer water for paddling compared to ocean locations.

Hiking coastal trails between campgrounds provides stunning views. The one-mile cliffside trail connects Ocean Cove to Stillwater Cove, offering regular wildlife sightings. At Bodega Bay, Michael I. noted, "The campground itself is pretty nice. Walkable to the Pacific Coast, very walkable to Bodega Harbor, and direct access to the trails of Bodega Head."

What campers like

Proximity to natural features: Campers consistently mention direct beach access as a highlight at Wright's Beach Campground. "Van was almost on beach. Great to wake up with the waves crashing," reports Cathy S., while Miles S. simply states, "On the sand 50 steps from the beach." This proximity creates an immersive coastal experience without requiring daily drives.

Privacy between sites: Several campgrounds offer vegetation barriers between campsites. At Bodega Dunes Campground, Jon M. notes, "The sites were separated by trees and shrubbery, giving the feeling of more privacy." Similarly, Maria O. observes that at Casini Ranch, "Tent areas are okay. There are some with more privacy than the others."

Campground amenities: Facilities vary significantly between locations. Regarding Doran Regional Park, Laura M. mentions, "Showers here are expensive at $2 for 5 min, quarters only." At Ocean Cove, David L. notes, "There are port-a-potties, coin operated showers, boat launch, fish cleaning station and potable water available."

What you should know

Seasonal closures and conditions: Heavy rains and coastal storms affect access. Salt Point State Park remains accessible year-round but with limitations. Myra D. explains, "Spur of the moment camping worked out for me here. It was early August and some campgrounds were full, but this one had plenty of openings." When planning winter trips, verify operational status.

Reservation requirements: Most campgrounds require advance booking except Ocean Cove, which operates first-come, first-served. "We felt lucky to get a last-minute drop-in spot in busy Bodega Bay on the weekend. A two-night minimum is required, but I was happy to stay for two nights," explains Edward R. about Bodega Bay RV Park.

Terrain challenges: Sandy conditions at coastal sites require preparation. Michael I. warns about Bodega Dunes: "I have to confess that I feel pretty silly for not being as prepared for the sand as I should have been from the name of the campground. Who would have thought!? We walked around sites 22-55 and all seem to be entirely on the sand. Come prepared to deal with sand."

Tips for camping with families

Activity options: Doran Regional Park offers family-friendly beach access. Teresa B. explains, "The beach is wide, flat and great for families. The first Saturday of the month the rangers do a tide pool talk. They bring sea creatures (like sea stars, sea slugs etc) to share and let the kids hold them."

Playground facilities: Casini Ranch provides extensive children's activities. "This campground is on Russian river. They have full hook ups and a lot of very cool sites. They have an insane amount of kids activities! Face painting, s'mores campfire, hay ride, parks, kareoke- just to name a few!" notes Miya B.

Bicycle-friendly areas: Doran Regional Park offers safe cycling areas for children. "Highly suggest taking scooters or your bicycle as there are many places to explore within the park," recommends GoldDust D. This allows families to explore beyond their immediate campsite without driving.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for larger vehicles: At Wright's Beach, Kerri C. advises, "I added pictures below because we couldn't find any pictures of space 14 online before we left. Hopefully this will help anyone else that is wondering how much space they will have. It works, but with a 23' trailer it was tight. Parking wasn't fun- but we did it!"

Water and power limitations: Many coastal campgrounds lack hookups. Marcus K. notes about Westside Regional Park, "Right on Bodega Bay's bay. Just down the road from several exceptional chowder or fish n chips locals. No hookups but you have restrooms and a dump station."

Dump station availability: Dump stations aren't available at all campgrounds. At Westside Regional Park, Joseph F. mentions, "They have a dump station charges $7.00 to dump if you are a guest there." At Bodega Dunes, Shari G. notes, "The dump station and water fill up spigot were excellent."
