      Guajome Regional Park

      Nice place

Clean, beautiful, hookups work, bathrooms/showers are clean. The lake is serene. Professional photographers are abound to take wedding and/or family pics here. Really wonderful. I almost don’t want to recommend it to keep others from flooding this gem.

BOULEVARD / CLEVELAND NATIONAL FOREST KOA HOLIDAY

A last minute stay that worked out

We had a last minute need for a stay in this area and found this off the beaten path KOA.

Frontline staff was very accommodating. The site I initially picked was too sloped for us so we were able to change (it was October and not busy).

It seemed like there were more long term, unoccupied rigs there than occupied ones so it was very quiet.

The bathrooms were old but clean. We didn’t use the showers or laundry so can’t comment on those.

We liked that there wasn’t freeway noise like so many other KOAs and would stay there again but not in the heat of summer.

      Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve

      Great place to stay!

I really enjoyed my time at Santee.

Was here for four nights in site 52 which was great for Starlink and had a nice view.

Clean campsite/recreation center and the staff was super nice.

Went on walks and used the pool/hot tub as well.

Noise was not an issue for me at all, it was very quiet when I stayed with a lot of open sites. It was also cooler with a nice breeze at night which was lovely.

      San Diego Metro KOA

      August bargain

I got in on an August bargain using the KOA app. Consequently, I stayed a month because it was the cheapest place on-the-coast.

Weekdays empty, weekends full, noisy everyday. Good location for long bicycle rides, e.g. Coronado, SD, Zoo, La Jolla, TJ. Chula Vista downtown is modern, not gritty like Petco Park.

Get the bargain if you can. Otherwise, the coast is expensive.

      Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay

It's good for what it is

It's a really nice facility, which is good because there isn't much around it. Sites are large with good spacing, the place has everything; pool and spa, arcade, restaurant, bar, private showers (some have a toilet), playground , dog parks, and a great laundry facility. On site store has a lot of things you need, including some basic RV stuff. No rig, they have bungalows for rent as well. Staff is really nice, fire pits work on lpg 20 pound tank only which we rented full for 26 bucks since we couldn't connect it to our rig, you can use your own though. Downside is your pretty much driving anywhere for anything but the living coast is definitely worth the trip which is behind the park. Side note, this was definitely one of the buggier places I have been to, mosquitoes, flies, spiders, roaches, you name it, you'll see it.

Lake Cuyamaca Recreation and Park District

Lone Pine: Great for Gatherings Not hot for silence

Pretty lake views, good plots with easy access to restrooms. However, if you want to enjoy peace and quiet this place isn't for you. The 3 closest had large groups gathering so don't expect the limit of 6 to be honored. Ditto goes for quiet hours. Gave it a 3 b because I was using a truck tent (couldn't actually connect to my spot) and hoped for p&c. But the folks around me were having a great time.

Paso Picacho Campground — Cuyamaca Rancho State Park

      Large Shaded Campsite

Site 52 is great! Two parking spots with a large flat space. You could easily place three tents on the flats and another two tents on the slight incline. There are three trees perfectly set up for hammocks. There is decent shade but still gets sun. Bushes and shrubs create a little gulf to give you great privacy. Site 51 is downhill of the site and the fire pit is a bit close to your neighbors. Bathrooms and camp host are just around the corner. Bathrooms were very clean and water taps and sewer grates were convent for dishwater. Squirrels are confident here so they will only runaway if you are nearby them. We loved this site and would suggest it for big groups or someone looking for a flat campsite!

    Guide to Bonita

Cabin camping near Bonita, California offers accommodations at elevations ranging from sea level at coastal sites to 4,000 feet in the Julian area. The region's Mediterranean climate features mild winters and warm summers with temperatures averaging 65-85°F from May through October. Most cabins require reservations 3-6 months in advance during peak summer season, with some locations allowing bookings up to 12 months ahead.

    What to do

Hiking accessible trails: At William Heise County Park, miles of trails accommodate various skill levels. "Nice well maintained trails, easy to moderate level," notes Michael S. The park's trail system connects directly to campsites.

Disc golf courses: GoodVibes Ranch & Farm features a professional disc golf course integrated with hiking trails. "I found out they have a full size professional disc golf course here! I don't bring my discs, but Carolyn and Bernie happily lent me some discs so I could try it out," writes Andrew A.

Lake activities: At Lake Morena County Park, campers can fish and hike around the shoreline. "We saw wild turkeys and the stars were endless. Overall, I loved staying here. This was a perfect escape from the madness going on right now," Rachel L. reports. The park sits approximately 30 minutes from Bonita.

    What campers like

Natural springs and outdoor showers: GoodVibes Ranch & Farm offers unique natural spring water showers. Deborah F. describes, "3 huge custom stone showers with natural spring water & full bathrooms with sinks & flushing toilets."

Stargazing opportunities: Multiple parks in the area feature minimal light pollution for night sky viewing. "Star gazing is amazing as well. I have camped here in fall, spring and summer. I have never been disappointed," writes a reviewer about Cuyamaca Rancho State Park.

    What you should know

Reservation timing: Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve requires significant advance planning for cabins. Mike G. advises, "Something this nice you have to reserve at least 6 months ahead for nicest tree sites."

Cell service limitations: Many cabin locations have limited connectivity. At Thousand Trails Pio Pico, "Cell service is non-existent, though they of course can't control that," states Derek & Alex W.

Fire restrictions: Rules vary seasonally and by location. Some parks prohibit campfires during high fire danger periods. One camper at Cuyamaca noted, "Dont bring your dogs unless you plan on staying in camp. They aren't allowed on trails."

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Dos Picos County Park offers family-oriented facilities. "There is also an event gazebo you can rent and a really nice playground," describes Nicole.

Fishing opportunities: Several parks offer fishing opportunities for children. At Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve, "My kids caught their first fish in the little pond," Dave L. reports.

Wildlife viewing: Wildlife sightings enhance the experience for children. "There must have been 100 wild turkeys that cruised thru the camp ground a few times. Pretty epic sight!!" exclaimed Tamara K. at Lake Morena.

Organized activities: Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay provides structured entertainment. "Great pool area. Splash pad for the little ones, bar for the bigger ones, activities poolside and HUGE TV! Food service as well," reports a camper.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Paso Picacho Campground has varying site conditions. "Some of the sites are not level though, so be careful choosing," warns Shannon F.

Limited hookups: Not all cabin camping areas offer full hookups. "Only the south side has full sewer, water, and electric hook ups," advises Joanne P. about Thousand Trails Pio Pico.

Local supply options: Accessibility to supplies varies. "The adjacent town has a small store," notes Berton M. about Lake Morena County Park, while other locations may require bringing all provisions.

Seasonal considerations: Sites can change dramatically with seasons. "Warmer temperatures in the summer make you wish you were farther northeast in the mountains," suggests Andrew D. about Santee Lakes area.
