Best RV Parks & Resorts near Bonita, CA

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV resorts serve the Bonita area, providing varying levels of amenities and access to San Diego attractions. Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay offers 197 concrete sites with full hookups including 50-amp electric, sewer, and water connections. The resort features a pool, restaurant, bar, and proximity to bike trails along the marina. "This is 5 star camping. Clean, wide level spots and a nice pool with full bar and waiter service," noted one camper describing the resort's amenities. Nearby options include Circle RV Resort in El Cajon with big-rig friendly spaces, though sites are described as tightly spaced with concrete pads and limited room for parking tow vehicles. San Diego RV Resort in La Mesa and Vacationer RV Park also provide full hookup sites, though both are situated near major roadways with associated traffic noise.

Freeway proximity affects several parks in the region, with highway noise being the most common complaint in user reviews. Thousand Trails Pio Pico in Jamul provides a slightly more removed location with water and electric hookups but lacks sewer connections at individual sites, offering a sanitary dump station instead. Most parks maintain gated entry systems, with prices ranging significantly based on amenities and location. A visitor to Circle RV Resort noted that "laundry is with your debit card, but wicked expensive, $3.75 wash, $3.75 dry." Pet-friendly policies are standard across most properties, though specific breed restrictions may apply. Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly for weekend stays or during peak winter months when snowbirds frequent the area.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

Great RV Park - We love it!

Very clean and well maintained but rather small RV park collocated with a nice marina. This is a military installation so it’s not open to the public. This is our go to staycation place on San Diego bay. Close enough to Coronado but far enough to be secluded. 20/30/50 amp power, water, and cable TV connections on the pedestals. Most spaces are back-in, but some are pull-through. Pet friendly with disposal stations, and the park has a nice mini-mart.

    Mission Bay RV Resort

    Short and to the point

It’s a nice Rv resort. Big rig friendly pull through sites. Went Veterans Day weekend 2021 and the weather was perfect. Short walk to the water, De Anza Cove. The beach is a dog friendly after 4 p.m.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

    Military RV park

Water front back in sites, pull through sites, other back in sites not waterfront and two tent sites. Don’t book with the concierge service. Easier to call the campground itself. Cell service is great and they have WiFi. Clean restrooms with shower. Water, sewage and power hook ups (30&50 amp). Small store and a boat house you can rent stuff like kayaks and paddle boards from. Great hidden gem.

    Lake Jennings

    Hidden Gem

This place is truly a hidden gem. Just 30 minutes from San Diego, with friendly staff and partial or full hookups. We were in a preferred lake view site#96 which had water and electric hookups. There was a play area that had ladder golf, tetherball, and ping pong. Have extra guess? Have them reserve a Tipi that has a max of 6 people. We had thee bars on our Version service and the campground WIFI is one of the best I have seen camping. Lake Jennings has some supplies available as well such as ice, propane, firewood, etc. at reasonable prices. Bathrooms and showers are clean. There is a dump station in the campground, and I suggest checking out the best way to get into the dump station before taking your rig. there are several roads around the dump station but only one that takes you in straight without having to make a sharp turn and possibly having to back up. The lake is drinking water for the local town and therefore no swimming allowed but they do stock the lake with fish. Just a long walk or short drive to the other side of the Lake and you can go fishing or boating. I would not suggest checking in early. The road in is very narrow and if you arrive before the noon checkout time you may find yourself falling into the lake while trying to squeeze by another on coming RV or trailer.

Paradise By The Sea RV Resort

    Amazing RV Resort Near Beach

A nicely appointed RV resort in downtown Oceanside with an awesome staff. Pull-through and back-in, full hookup spots available. Cable, wi-fi, a clubhouse with TV and PlayStation for the kids, pool table, games to check out, and a small swimming pool and hot tub. There are also outdoor community areas with ping-pong, bean-bag toss, grills, and other activities.

The resort is only a 5- minute walk to the beach and not far from Oceanside restaurants and shops. While it’s a tad spendy, you really do get a lot for your money with a great near beach location.

    Thousand Trails Pio Pico

    Be Truthful

I’m new to RV’s, and the lifestyle. I’ve been planning on full time RV living for the last 10 months. Pio Pico is the 1st RV park I’ve stayed at. I was enjoying my quite solitude, when my closest neighbor told me, one of the workers has tested positive for Covid-19, so I hauled ass out of there. Luckily, I didn’t have any human contact whatsoever with anyone there during my stay. I have bronchial asthma, so I wasn’t taking any chances.
Too bad, because it felt remote, quiet, and was only a nice 7 mile drive from grocery stores, retail stores, food, gas, etc., if you needed anything. 30 amp, and water at site. Dumping area with two stations. Nice paths to hike, or walk your dog. Laundry was open, but only facility I used was the dump station. I didn’t get any TV reception, but others did. I didn’t have a powered antenna, but I do now. The internet was slow and iffy. They said they were working on it. I got to see a few shows on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube... No cell service at all, but I did get a little with my WeBoost. I wasn’t expecting much with mountains all around. I would have given another star, but keeping something like a worker testing positive for covid-19 from customers is not a good business idea. I’d probably give them another try though, since it had the seclusion I was looking for.

    William Heise County Park

Forest and Mountains just a couple hours from the city

Sweet campground with pines trees and a mountain feel. Table and fire pit at each site.

Hiking available walking distance from camp, trails leading out of camp. Family friendly environment. Can get busy in the summer, so be sure to leave it just as beautiful or better than before you arrived.

Paradise By The Sea RV Resort

    Best RV Park in Town!

We stayed a little longer than a month and enjoyed how accessible everything was from this location. It's also a great home base for exploring up to Malibu all the way down to San Diego and every place in between. Carlsbad Village is just a few miles away and there is great ice cream and Handel's and cute shops and restaurants.

ABOUT: The RV park has its own back gate to the beach. It meanders through a little city park and then you can take the roads to find little beach access or walk through the neighborhood down to the proper beach and Oceanside Pier. Laundry is a bit pricey $2.50/wash and$2.00 dry, but they work well and one cycle dries your clothes. It's tightly packed, but manageable. One of the team members will help you park when you check in which is really helpful. Concrete pads and hookups placed conveniently by your rig. Picnic tables and a palm tree divides each site.

There is a commuter train that goes by and we were concerned before arriving due to working from home conditions, but we were pleasantly surprised. At our site it wasn't bad at all. It only came a few times a day and it was not a big deal. Didn't affect us working from the RV.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: Very responsive team, especially over email. Facilities are nice and the staff keeps the grounds very clean and tidy. It is a pretty laid back atmosphere and a variety of guests, lots of families having fun together. You can have packages delivered but they go to the office and not your site so remember to add your name.

WIFI/ CELL SERVICE: AT&T cell service worked full bars and wifi was great. Very little trouble working remote or streaming. There were a few times where we needed the support of our back up hotspot on our phone for video calls instead of their wifi, but other than that it was great.

    Olive Avenue RV Resort

Nice new place, but very close and not level

We stayed here a couple of nights to visit our son in Carlsbad near by.

The staff was very welcoming and friendly, but the site we requested was never available according the to staff (not a big issue,  but for those how are big on getting what they reserve, take note).  There are lots of full time residents here as well.  Not sure I would call it a 'resort' … kind of a stretch and not really a destination location.

The park is basically new and well laid out for the size lot available.  Paved surfaces and well maintained landscaping.  We had a pull through site with full hook ups; it was on a cement pad that was nice, but the city made them slope all the pads for water drainage … a huge amount!  We maxed our our tongue on multiple boards to level off (note, the staff offered even more if we needed them). Regardless, the sites are close together so don't plan on enjoying a quite meal outside (truly for the pull throughs, they are meant to just to park an RV … the back ends in the corners look like they have more room).

When pulling into the park, take note there is a MH park to the right that the RV park owners own as well. So, stay to the right of the drive.

There is a pool and a dog run (it appears many dog owners don't pick up … argh).  The dog run did have large rocks making if difficult to walk and most likely clean, but it was well covered and lite for night time.

I would stay here again to visit my son.

Guide to Bonita

RV campgrounds near Bonita, California provide access to the diverse microclimates of San Diego County, where inland temperatures can vary 10-15 degrees from coastal areas. Most Bonita area campgrounds sit at elevations between 300-500 feet, offering varying proximity to both urban amenities and quieter desert environments. Winter brings milder temperatures, making it popular with seasonal visitors.

What to do

Coastal biking trails: Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay offers direct access to marina biking paths. "Walking and biking in the Marina is so nice!" notes a camper, while another mentions "Beautiful wildlife, sunsets, sculptures, beach, marina, bike paths."

Water activities: Fiddlers Cove RV Park provides equipment rentals for water recreation. "Great hidden gem...they have a boat house you can rent stuff like kayaks and paddle boards from," reports one visitor. This military installation campground requires appropriate ID for access.

Off-leash dog areas: Rancho Los Coches RV Park features a "gorgeous and HUGE area across a small bridge and creek that had some disc golf and allows dogs to be off leash!" The park includes shade trees and privacy walls between sites.

Recreation facilities: Several parks offer on-site recreation beyond standard amenities. One camper at Mission Bay RV Resort noted, "There's a nice basketball court and clean bathrooms. There is a gated pool and hot tub," while another mentioned access to Campland's "full bar/restaurant and live entertainment" via a connecting bridge.

What campers like

Proximity to attractions: Parks offer varying distances to major San Diego destinations. A Fiddlers Cove visitor highlighted "Easy access to all of San Diego," while another noted it's "Right off the amphib base."

Security features: Multiple parks prioritize security measures. At Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay, a visitor appreciated "having key card access similar to a hotel room. You drive up to a gate and present the card to get in which is very nice and provides a secure site." Rancho Los Coches is "secured with a gate which requires a code."

Facility quality: Thousand Trails Pio Pico in Jamul offers amenities despite its more rural setting. "I didn't have any human contact whatsoever with anyone there during my stay... 30 amp, and water at site. Dumping area with two stations. Nice paths to hike, or walk your dog," reported one camper, highlighting the quieter experience.

Recreational amenities: Some parks offer extensive on-site activities. "Amenities isn't all that great when they're not maintained well," noted one visitor about Circle RV Resort, commenting on "damaged equipment" in the gym and issues with the pool.

What you should know

Cell service limitations: Coverage varies significantly by location. A Thousand Trails Pio Pico visitor warned, "Cell service is non-existent, though they of course can't control that," while another mentioned, "No cell service at all, but I did get a little with my WeBoost."

Traffic noise: Highway proximity affects sleep quality at several locations. A Circle RV Resort visitor noted, "Hwy 8 is right outside your door and very loud," while another mentioned the property "is located in between freeway and major road...so there is no escaping any traffic noise."

Laundry costs: Prices for laundry services vary widely. At Escondido RV Resort, a visitor appreciated the "heated outdoor pool" and that "staff is kind and professional," though specific amenity conditions may fluctuate by season.

Extended-stay options: Several parks accommodate longer visits. Rancho Los Coches earned praise from a monthly resident: "For the monthly stay, our electric only came out to be about $80 which is awesome considering we had something running at all times, including AC and/or heat."

Tips for camping with families

Pool areas: Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay features family-friendly water amenities. A visitor described "Splash pad for the little ones, bar for the bigger ones, activities poolside and HUGE TV! Food service as well."

Indoor recreation: Several parks maintain indoor activity spaces. "An arcade for the kids. There is also a comfort station with a playground and horse shoe pits," reported a camper at Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay.

Safety concerns: Supervision requirements vary by park. A Mission Bay RV Resort visitor noted it has "more so adults than families in comparison to Campland," indicating different atmospheres between neighboring properties.

Organized activities: Circle RV Resort receives mixed reviews for family amenities. One visitor noted, "Gym has damaged equipment, pool has lose hand rails and heated pool is filthy," emphasizing the importance of checking current facility conditions before booking.

Tips from RVers

Site dimensions: Space considerations matter for larger rigs. A Circle RV Resort visitor advised, "We had to back in our 42' because there was no way to just pull in with a vehicle and a tree in the way. But backed in just fine."

Hookup configurations: Connection placements can create challenges. At Mission Bay RV Resort, a visitor warned, "The connections are at the front of the space on the drivers side. If you back in you better have 100 feet of hose sewer and power cord."

Long-term options: Monthly rates provide economical alternatives for extended stays. At Rancho Los Coches, visitors found value: "We stayed here 2 times, once for about a week, and once for a little over a month. Both times were very pleasant stays!"

Propane availability: Refill access varies between parks. At Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay, a visitor noted, "You do need to pop off a tank from your camper as they do not supply a direct line of propane," while another mentioned, "Propane is available to refill your rv tanks."
