Great campground and host!

I love finding a camping spot last minute and it turns out to be amazing! Dennison Park Campground did not disappoint! Although there are beautiful upper campground spots that Overlook Ojai Valley, I chose, from the choices I had, a spot that looked spacious and offered the most shade. Nestled in the middle of upper and lower campsites, I found it to be a quiet reprieve from our day's activities -- the campfire always the highlight for me. The camp host, Dane, was friendly, helpful, and a joy to chat with. He also gave us some suggestions of other county parks to check out the next time we venture to the Ojia area! We will definitely be back to camp here!

Worked great

Cheaper than camp comfort and just up the road. Camped on the fourth and saw the biggest beetle of my life. Comfortable for car camping and quiet!

A Tranquil Stay at Dennison Park

My son and I enjoyed our stay at Dennison Park.

Not all sites are equal here. Some are small and exist on a slope. You can generally get a sense of the dimensions if you reserve via the Ventura County website. We were at site 15, one of the larger ones in the campsite.

We visited on a Thursday evening in June without traffic or other campsite visitors. There is a small play park at the base of the hill for small children to unwind, but I recommend driving a few miles further into Ojai and visiting Libbey Park. Indeed, this campground's proximity to Ojai is one of the major draws. Ojai has a farmer's market on Thursday at the local High School, and you can easily plan a dinner around freshly caught fish or grass-fed beef from local ranches over the campsite grill.

The campsite was primitive but had all the necessary amenities: a fire ring, running water, and walking distance from an outhouse. We had lovely Ojai Valley views a few feet from our campsite. We were positioned well above a cloud layer in the morning with a beautiful view.

Aside from the proximity to Ojai, this is an excellent campsite for small children. There is enough forest and outdoors to explore and run around without constantly monitoring the children. The campground exists on a slope, and due to the canyon topography, there is little danger of children wandering too far out of eyesight.

Spent President’s Day here

Small quiet ,off road but highway noise. Very friendly camp host, Ojai just a few miles away, no full hookup, clean bathroom no showers. Good views from tent sites-not RV sites.

Rainy stop over near Ojai

Rolling Oak Woodlands. Shade. Solar will be available in some sites. Note: sites near the road are near the highway -road noise.

Tent site loop appears to be very nice and away from the highway. Trailer/ RV sites:. Our site, #1, looks down on day use parking area. Sites 2,5 and 6 are clustered together. Site 4 is one of the nicer RV sites - farthest RV site from the road and somewhat private.

General: Quiet. Bathrooms are fine. There is some road noise during the day, I anticipate little at night.

Nice clean quiet campground

I loved using Ventura County's online reservation system. So easy and I could book same day! I stayed in Site #4. Some shade. Short drive into Ojai which I love. Only a few people here, love that. Bathrooms are locked but I have my own. Great signal with AT&T on my phone because you can see the cell tower. Host drove by, she was very pleasant. I will come here again.

Loved this quiet, little place!

This was our first time here and we are already planning on going back.

Each campsite has a sturdy cement picnic table and a fire pit. The campsites were clean, with no trash on the ground and at least every other site had a trashcan with extra bags that were checked and emptied regularly.

Sites are nicely spaced though some are closer together than others. They also have a separate area for tenters- no RVs.

There is a nice playground and several day use barbecue areas.

There is quite a bit of noise from the main street that you drive into the site from. However, you quickly get used to it or otherwise quickly figure out how to ignore it. Nothing you can do about that but frankly it really wasn’t too bad.

There are new hosts that moved in only two weeks ago. Truly so friendly and caring and hard-working. Each time one lady drove by she stopped to check in and say hello and share some of her stories and her excitement of being at the location.

We have T-Mobile and the cell signal was very strong.

We only drove less than an hour to get to this location and yet we felt miles and miles away from home. I would highly recommend this for a nice Boondocking destination.

A dustbowl with Terrible hosts

Like ALL Ventura campsites since Covid .. everything has to be booked online and the thumbnail photograph of the campsite is too small to realistically show the gradient of the site. Tried getting the very rude campground hosts to help me change to a flatter site but they just referred me right back to the phone number which you leave a message and hope someone calls you back. The guy actually said he was way too busy to talk to me and then got back in his RV !!! Really? This is sadly a common thing amongst these country run campgrounds the hosts are either absent or not interested and as such they have zero to do with the public . Very disappointing Ended up driving away and seeking a full refund.

Nice campground - Dry camping in small RV

We were here for two nights in early August and had a really nice time. The site was fairly large and level with nice picnic table and fire ring. Very clean, nice bathrooms. Walking to the top of the campground presents an awesome view of the Ojai valley. Camp hosts were great and really attend to campers. Only downside is there didn't seem to be anywhere outside the campground to hike as the road is a bit too narrow for walking. But, wonderful stay for a day or two. Not far into Ojai for a great town to visit, but you'd need a car to get there.

Easy access, quick getaway

This campground is right off the main road; it’s a quick drive through Ojai to get to. A good amount of trees at each site, some on the upper back side have an amazing view of the Ojai Valley. There are water spigots dispersed throughout the campground, 2 sets of bathrooms as well. It’s a pretty steep hill up to the back park and there is a sign recommending RVs to not make the climb, but there are plenty of lower sites if you have a letter vehicle. A bit of road noise at the front, but it’s generally pleasant and hasn’t been too crowded each time we’ve been.

Dennison Park

Beautiful views, small campground with access to trails. Reserve BBQ areas for larger get togethers. Just a ten minute drive to downtown for a great tourist experience.

Uncrowded Gem with great Ojai views

All in all we like this campsite and will return. Our experience was fantastic mostly because the campground was empty (only campers Friday night, 2 other sites filled Saturday).  Views from upper campsites are beautiful (we stayed in site #14), and on a full moon the sound of coyotes cackling throughout the valley is a nice way to fall asleep.

For our purposes:

  • Dog Friendly: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Toddler Friendly: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pros:

  • Beautiful views
  • Not crowded
  • Dog Friendly
  • Play area for kids
  • Clean bathrooms (portable bathrooms in some parts of campground)
  • Friendly rangers

Cons:

  • Water spigots are available but inconvenient for most sites.
  • Terrain is uneven for tent pads in many sites
  • No good dog friendly hikes directly accessible from camp ground (lots within a short drive)
  • Our site was poorly maintained. Broken glass all over, broken fire pit, lots of scattered branches.
  • Little bit of road noise, not too bad though.

Sweet hilly campground

It’s a lovely campground nearby Ojai. A tiny one way road weaves around a hill and connects all the spots. Only one site has an unobstructed view of the Valley (#15) but that one was occupied when I arrived and I had a lovely view from my site.

Campgrounds in this area are booked by signing on to the Venture website after you arrive and selecting which spot you’re reserving. It’s pretty straightforward. Mine was $26 for the night and I’m here end of December. There is a light dusting of snow on the mountains. It got down into the 30’s last night.

Great for beginners

It's easy to get yourself into nature out here near Ojai and this spread out campground is also easy to get to. Right off a main road just out of town, with running water and bathrooms.

This site allows both fires and pets. Plenty of spaces for all types of campers.

It gets three stars because it's usually crowded and can be loud at night depending on road traffic and other campers

Nice Park Close to Home

Nice clean park with great views of our local mountains and the Ojai valley. One of the things we didn’t like was that the lower sites are so close to the highway and traffic can get noisy during the day. However once nighttime comes around it gets really quiet. Hoping to get a upper site on our next visit. Overall, the park is a nice weekend getaway with out having to drive so far.

Convenient to Ojai

Stayed in site 1. The closest flush toilets are closed but there are ones near the road that are nice. Spot 15 looks great and if I ever go back I’d try to get that one, but if you do stay there then it’s a honey hut that’s close-by. Didn’t check out the lower campground, but walked the main loop and there’s some great views of the valley and the stars. It was nice having two big tables in our spot and a water spigot was close by. There’s some road noise, but otherwise it was peaceful in the winter. There’s a day use area that I imagine gets more attention in the summer. Cell service was great for ATT (cell tower near-by). Check out The Summit drive in a few miles up the road for a tasty burger :)
