Peaceful getaway!

What a terrific campground! Up at about 4000’ elevation, the night sky is clear and bright!

We drove up the one lane, two way road and luckily didn’t have to pass anyone. Look ahead to see if anyone is making their way towards you as there’s only a few pullouts

Small campground which is very well kept. The site we had was spacious not only to park but the area around it was large and not too close at all to the neighboring sites. No cell coverage at all! No water or trash areas - plan accordingly. Pit toilet facilities were very clean but note that we went in day one of this season opening.

Camp host is not on site but came through to check on things during our stay.

We took a nice hike up the road from the campground entrance. I guess it’s about a 4.8 mi hike to the top. We didn’t go all the way but the part we did was very nice, gorgeous views and a well kept trail.

We will absolutely return here!

Great views from the Lookout!

We loved this campground destination! Out of all of our trips so far (12) this is our favorite! Let’s start with the drive - it’s a long windy road to get up to the campground. One lane, two way street but it’s very doable! You pass the nondescript Neverland Ranch too. Beautiful drive to the campground. Then, the campground itself is so pleasant. Every site was sold out for this weekend and although it was full, it wasn’t crowded or noisy. Lovely, very short walk to a lookout within the campground to see the gorgeous sunset. Facilities were very well kept. The two camp hosts are two of the most cheerful people we’ve met yet while camping. They tour the campground frequently and interact with the campers. They are terrific! Ok so then, we set out to reach Mt Fig Lookout. Head out of the camp to the left about 1/3 mile or so then head up the blocked off dirt roadway. The trail is well maintained. It’s about 2.5 miles up to the lookout and it was worth every step. Very beautiful. T-Mobile poor coverage. Possible to text sometimes but if you head to the sunset lookout we got 2 bars. Plenty of good cell coverage on the Mt Fig lookout hike. We will definitely return to this place for sure!

Great desert location!

This was our first time going to this campground and we loved it! It was entirely sold out for both weekend nights, so plan ahead.

We found the campground to be very clean and well-maintained. The toilet facilities were also very clean and did not smell.

The campsites in the area where we were, were spacious and spread out. We liked very much not being on top of one another and appreciated how vast this campground is.

It was incredibly windy when we went in April 2021. In addition to the wind, it was very chilly in the evenings and through the night. Plan accordingly.

T-Mobile signal was poor and Verizon and AT&T cell signals were slightly better.

There are easy to make hikes - meaning not necessarily any specific trails at the campground, but there are plenty of places to explore and wander from the campground. I understand you can also drive a short distance to Trail head hikes which we did not do.

Another review here on The Dyrt states something about a burning man group. When I called the number for the campsite to inquire about this, I was told that there is a large group of people that come here regularly and do their ‘burning man thing’. We really didn’t notice much of a difference between this or any other campsites as far as people/activity other than they have a live DJ who played one night until 2 AM.!
Being that there is no camp host here, you may want to keep that in mind. Although we were in the other loop, we could hear the thumping of the base from their music throughout both evenings.

For a desert getaway, I would highly recommend trying this place out.

A nice little somewhat hidden spot

This campsite feels like it’s right in the midst of a neighborhood. It’s tucked away from the street and you almost wouldn’t know it’s there! Loved this small and well kept campsite.

Some of the sites are very small. We picked a site towards the back (which actually once you drive through is closest to the main street but no street noise whatsoever)

Our area was a bit more spread out than the central area which was louder and felt more crowded as we walked through.

There’s a nice park, but small, for the little campers.

Each site had a fire pit and a picnic table. There were restroom facilities that were all clean and well-kept.

T-Mobile cell service worked well here.

We would definitely return to this location.

Wild turkeys!

Seriously, there are wild turkeys here! There were two in our immediate and small campsite. We took a small drive and we must’ve seen 60 more turkeys crossing the road.

We stayed in the smaller loop and loved it. Every campsite up there was taken and it didn’t feel crowded at all. Walking around the larger loop we felt like we picked the better area for us.

Even though people were close, it was not noisy at all. The bathroom facility which was not too far was very well kept.

T-Mobile cellular service was pretty much zero but for maybe one bar near the camp entrance. A short drive back to the main road and you’ll have strong signal.

We would definitely return to this campsite.

Loved this quiet, little place!

This was our first time here and we are already planning on going back.

Each campsite has a sturdy cement picnic table and a fire pit. The campsites were clean, with no trash on the ground and at least every other site had a trashcan with extra bags that were checked and emptied regularly.

Sites are nicely spaced though some are closer together than others. They also have a separate area for tenters- no RVs.

There is a nice playground and several day use barbecue areas.

There is quite a bit of noise from the main street that you drive into the site from. However, you quickly get used to it or otherwise quickly figure out how to ignore it. Nothing you can do about that but frankly it really wasn’t too bad.

There are new hosts that moved in only two weeks ago. Truly so friendly and caring and hard-working. Each time one lady drove by she stopped to check in and say hello and share some of her stories and her excitement of being at the location.

We have T-Mobile and the cell signal was very strong.

We only drove less than an hour to get to this location and yet we felt miles and miles away from home. I would highly recommend this for a nice Boondocking destination.

Didn’t see a bald eagle this time so I guess we’ll have to go back!

We really enjoyed this campsite. We did go from Sunday through Wednesday and not only was it not crowded but it was nearly empty. Apparently the weekends are quite full.

We stayed in campsite 108 (which had full hookups) and did not feel that the campsites were too close to one another. There were other campers there when we arrived but by Tuesday we had the whole area to ourselves.

Each campsite has a nice picnic table and fire pit with a grill.

We brought our bikes but there was not a whole lot of area to go bike riding. A bit too hilly for us to ride over to the boat launch area but we did drive over there to see the sights.

All of the staff here are incredibly nice and helpful. We spoke to many of them and they seem genuinely happy that people are there. The bathroom facilities were immaculate.

Rangers are eager to answer questions and I learned a bit about the bald eagles in the area from one of them.

T-Mobile cellular signal was fine. No Wi-Fi.

We will definitely go back!

Relax and visit the birds!

This was our first time here and we loved it! Small campground that is very well kept and cozy. When you drive in you pass by a large aviary (yup you read that right!) and apparently there’s wild peacocks that live here too!
Drive in and reach the hookup sites / these are typical, stacked somewhat close together.
Drive a bit farther, where we stayed, and although no hookups, more spread out and quieter which we prefer. Bathroom facilities, centrally located, were clean. Camp host available to answer question and friendly too!

Each site has picnic table and fire pit.

Tmobile cellular worked just fine. No WiFi

Great getaway for the weekend - will definitely return!

SO peaceful!

This was our first time at this site. There are several areas to choose from and we were in the 500s. Though this is a non-hook up area and mostly Tenters, this is a nice out-of-the-way, spaciously spaced, quiet, right on the water, great spot for boondocking!

Not too far from restrooms and showers and closer Andy gumps over here, too.

Great place to ride your bike - paved and non paved routes. Hiking? I’d say more like walking and certainly beautiful sights to see! Egrets, heron, hawks, maybe turkey vultures, too?

Not sure about WiFi but tmobile cell signal was strong enough over in the 500s.

Come here and relax, enjoy, get away and feel peace.

Beauty and the Beach!

This campground is right on the breakwater. If you enjoy the ocean, beach and wide open blue sky, this is your site!

The actual campground is long and you might be inclined to grab the first spot you see but there are many along the way and an easy turnaround at the end.

No hookups. Cellular signal was strong. No WiFi.

I personally found the sound of the water to be too loud but so many others around us were truly enjoying the proximity to the ocean.

The Rangers patrolled throughout the day and were very pleasant to answer questions upon arrival.

Peaceful and pretty

We selected our campsite based on the map and online photos. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the location we chose!! Our space was F -11 and after driving through all of the campgrounds, and there are many, we felt that the Fox site was best suited for us. So much so that when we return we will definitely pick another site in Fox.

There is a small market should you forget anything and need it while on your getaway. It is stocked with practically anything you can think of!

Beware! There are ground squirrels in abundance everywhere here and they live without fear of humans! We watched them approach as we sat right near the truck and they hopped up into the engine compartment. Luckily as far as we can tell, they didn’t do any damage.

Our space had basic hook ups - there are two dump stations on site. There’s a big cost differential compared to a full hook up site - if that’s any concern. ;-)

Great place for a peaceful getaway!

Hidden, quiet, little gem!

This campground happens to be very close to home so we went here to try out our brand new pull behind camper trailer for the very first time.
The campground is small, quiet and very well-kept.

In fact, every subsequent campground toilet facility I now compared to this one because it was so clean!!

Only 12 sites - all have full hook ups, picnic table and fire pit.

Make note! There is no Wi-Fi here and as best we could tell , no cellular signal for any provider.

Large grassy area for picnicking etc. Small park area for the children. And a really amazing looking archery zone that the public can use on Saturdays for a mere $5

Go here to relax and disconnect! We loved it.
