Nice spot just off the AZT, stayed while on a bike trip on the trail. Camped in the La Selvilla section in the back of the canyon. Plenty of room and spots are not too tight and most had shade trees. All had flat tent pad, table and fire ring. There is a group spot with a pavilion that has running water, and pit toilets. Verizon was one bar, got a few calls out but text would not work. They do lock the gate at 4:00, so once in, you are there for the night. Only one other group when we were there. Would go back for sure.
One of my all-time favorite campsites. Great for accessing the mountain bike trails at Tsali. The entire campground is first come first serve, never had a problem finding a spot, but does fill up by the weekend. Roomy camp spots, decent privacy between spots, clean bath houses, all in a beautiful location. Ride right out of your campsite and hit the trails, or easy access to Lake Fontana. Campsite is always well-maintained. All the spots have dedicated tent area, picnic tables and fire rings. Multiple bear proof trash cans and water spickets on both loops and easy to access. Only downside is it closes mid October until April.
Nice dispersed camping spot just off the AZT. Plenty of room and nice spots, flat with awesome views north of the San Francisco Peaks.
Great spot in the banks of the Chauga River just by the falls for dispersed camping. Accessed from St Rd 37-748, a 4x4 will get you to trailhead, spots for maybe 3 vehicles. Would not attempt without 4x4. Trail to river is well maintained and about 1 mile. It is a steep climb out. Multiple options as it is dispersed, just note restrictions on distance from river and trail. Lightning bugs were out in April. Large beach below the falls so likely busy in the summer.
Well laid out campground with some good spots, especially further back in the campground. But definitely set up and geared for horseback riders. Passed through on a bike packing trip and we were the only non-horse people there. Campsite was clean, with bathrooms and water available.
Camped at Cassidy bridge on a bikepacking trip. Location is great, right by the river. Sites are not marked and not much to the site. It does have a pit toilet, but no other amenities.
Nice dispersed area close to town, easy bike ride or walk to stores but seems remote. It is close to airport so GC tour helicopters come in low and often, cool but gets old. Fortunately times are regulated.
Great campground just inside Pisgah National Forest. Camped in the Riverbend section. Site was decent size with large tent pad, table and parking for two cars. A little close to neighbors but not too bad. Some sites in Riverbend offer more privacy. Can’t beat location, mountain bike trails easily rideable from campground. Plus The Hub, Ecusta Brewing just down the road. Easy walking access to Davidson River. Clean bathrooms/showers.
Great spot that puts you in a more remote part of the park. Only downside is most sites are on top of each other. Be prepared to know your neighbor! Would be a solid 5 star if there was just a little more space between campsites. All in all a beautiful location, good hiking trails nearby. Was a little far from some of the main spots to visit in the park, but we prefer to be away from the crowds so it was perfect. Just up the road from the campground is a nice sunset viewing spot, a couple of benches a few hundred yards off the parking area. Perfect spot to wind down after a day of hiking and fishing. The restrooms (no showers) were very clean and the camp host was friendly and helpful. No firewood for sale at the site.
Tent camped here in April while mountain biking at Tsali. Campground at Tsali had not opened and this was a great plan B. Camped along the creek, all the spots had a fire pit and table. Bath house was clean and in good shape. There is also a separate section with RV hook ups and small cabins / huts for rent. Helpful and friendly host, also have a good selection of basic sundries in the office. And free WiFi near the office. Would stay here again for sure.
Camped in the upper primitive site while mountain biking at nearby Coldwater Mountain. Good campsite with great views. Good separation between sites, but the are very close to the road. Only complaint, site (#124) was on a decent slope and spots flat enough for tents were almost in the road. However, great spot in Alabama to camp. Very convenient to the great mountain bike trails in Anniston (http://neaba.net/home.html).
Large area with plenty of spots, a few side roads lead to even more spots. Main road was in good shape, side roads get pretty rough. Nothing impassable, just slow going. There are several Port-O-Lets along main road and a pit toilet near the back of the area. Arrived the Wednesday before Outerbike and found a spot at the end of the main road. Was a very busy weekend and the place stayed full - but never felt too crowded. Easy access to the Klonzo and Sovereign Trails via Willow Springs Road.
Nice campsite right on the banks of Roaring Fork River. Small site with 10 spots, first come, first serve. Arrived on a Wednesday in July just before noon and there were several spots to pick from. Sites 4 - 7 are on the river, which was very nice, good for sleeping. There are as fire pits and tables at each campsite. Vault toilets and a water spout on site. Plenty of lodgepole pines between sites so it feels private. Trail head for Lost Man Trail is right across the street, or head east on Hwy 82 to Independence and Lost Man Lake Tail head for a nice out and back.
