Reservations for South Campground are available up to 14 days before your arrival and may extend up to two days beyond this 14-day booking window. For visitors to Zion National Park, South Campground is an ideal place to stay. Located near the park's south entrance, the campground is just a short walk from the main visitor center, the Zion Canyon Shuttle System and the adjacent town of Springdale. The canyon and most of the park's trails are only accessible by shuttle bus from approximately the end of February until the end of November each year. Season Dates: South Campground is open from early March to the end of October. Reservations are available up to 14 days before your arrival. For example, if you want to make a reservation for March 14 to 16, you may book this reservation beginning on March 1. Reservations that extend beyond the 14 day booking window cannot be altered. For reservations more than 14 days ahead of arrival, please check Watchman Campground which offers reservations six months in advance of arrival.
Hikers can access three trails directly from the facility: the Watchman Trail, a moderate trail that ascends the peak behind the campground; the Archeology Trail, which offers a light hike to an archeological site; and the Pa'rus Trail, a paved walking and biking trail that runs alongside the river, and the only trail in the park that allows dogs. The Zion visitor center and the park shuttles are a short walk from the campground. Many popular rock climbing routes are within a short shuttle bus ride into the main canyon. Use of OHVs and ATVs is prohibited in Zion National Park.
Zion is known for its dynamic geologic history. The South Campground and Amphitheater were built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the early 1930s. The project was completed and opened to the public in the spring of 1935. The Virgin River, a narrow but powerful river that has carved out the canyon over time, runs adjacent to the site. Cottonwood trees surrounding the campsite turn golden in the fall. Although the campground is moderately forested, most of the campsites are in partial to full sun but visitors can cool off in the cold river when temperatures peak during summer. Be Advised: The months of April and May bring an unusual infestation of Tent Caterpillars, which fall from trees onto tents, tables, and unsuspecting campers and can make it quite uncomfortable to sit outside. The months of July and August in particular bring a higher concentration of ants in the campsites, which seem to come out especially after the monsoons, but are present all summer long. August and September bring yellowjackets. Insecticidal treatment by visitors is not permitted.
The town of Springdale has shopping, art galleries, shower facilities, restaurants. equipment rental businesses, gas stations, markets, bike rentals, library and health clinic.
Individual Site: A $10.00 service fee will apply if you modify your reservation or change your stay dates. Cancelling your reservation prior to 11:59 pm Eastern Time two nights before your stay will incur a $10 cancellation fee. Camping reservations cancelled the day before and day of arrival incur a $10 cancellation fee and forfeit the first night's use fee. If you need to cancel or modify your reservation after 12:00 am Eastern Time the day of your arrival you must contact campground staff at zion_south_campground@nps.gov. Group campsite: Customers who cancel a group site reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee.

GuideWe stayed at Zion RV resort in Virgin, Utah just outside Zion National Park and nearby towns in October 2021. This is a very nice full-service RV resort that offers a variety of pull-through and back-in sites, and cabins. The sites are 50amp FHU, fairly long, and have nice spacing between sites. The park is pristine and offers a large inviting pool and hot tub, laundry room, playground, dog runs, propane fill station, and a real lodge with lots of apparel, home goods, ice, beer and other beverage choices. There is access to the Virgin River from the campground. We really enjoyed our stay here just minutes from Zion and other local attractions. The only downside was wifi coverage if you have Verizon. The tent sites are well spaced and surrounded by trees. The showers were clean and plenty of hot water. There was potable water and a dish sink at the shower house. The pool and hot tubs were an awesome bonus. I enjoyed eating at the restaurant onsite even though it has limited hours. The coffee shop is open all day though! Great place to stay you really can’t beat it at 14 bucks a night!

It was really cold in October, snowed shortly after arrival. Our site was huge, had 2 fire pits and a picnic table. Not too far from the bathroom. We stayed at site 10 but 11 had the best views in my opinion. Observation point trail is here plus more!
RangerAs a solo woman, safety was my first priority and it felt very safe the whole time. It was, however, a bit pricey, and the sites were not very private. On the plus side, the pool and hot tub were amazing after hiking Zion, the adventure add-ons were incredible, and the accessibility to the park is hard to beat for this price range. I would go back but I also assume there are other places.

We stayed for 3 nights in the Cave Dwelling unit. The site was very clean, they check on the hot tubs daily to make sure the water levels are correct and in good order. Staff was very quick to help with any issues. This was a very comfortable stay and close to the south entrance of Zion National Park. The only downfall was the view - there was construction going on across from the property but we would definitely stay here again.

RangerThis RV resort is breathtaking!! You get a taste of Zion the moment you arrive, and stay in awe of nature's beauty your entire stay. Even though this in close proximity to a number of parks, we had been to the parks already and just needed a weekend getaway, so we just stayed at the resort! The spaces are gravel and maintained well. They do have fire pits, which we enjoyed using every evening. The resort also has a big, beautiful pool and hot tub, a general store, and nice facilities. Besides the scenery that surrounded us, the best part of staying here was the hiking available. There is a nearby river, and we took the dogs down to explore with us a few times during our stay. Apparently they have a schedule of activities available, but we didn't do any of those. An absolute must if you are traveling via RV through this region!

LegendThis resort is very nice. Pricey, but it offers a lot. It is about 13 miles outside of Zion but they take reservations, other campgrounds nearby did not. The tent sites are right along the river which was wonderful. There is extra parking if you need it right by your tent site. You can play horseshoes, go swimming int he heated pool and use the hot tub. They encourage camp fires and have a gift shop. The showers run for 7 minutes, then you have to wait 5 minutes and then you can run them again, no coins needed. There are picnic benches at the campsites. Really enjoyed this campground.

Fire red sunsets, completely different setting from where I was use too and one of the tallest trail hikes and rock climb I have been on, seems that throughout the day the settings always change! ScoutThis site really has it all! The basics are great (hot showers, clean toilets, laundry, shop), and lots of extras (two hot tubs, two pools which were a blessing after long days hiking in Zion) and a really good restaurant.
There are also lots of activities on offer which we were less interested in but great if you are interested in that. I think you could do hikes of the Eastern part of the park from the campground. Do be aware that to get to the most popular hikes in the park, it is a 45 min drive back to the visitors centre and then the shuttle bus in peak seasons. Alternatively this site is well positioned for quieter but still beautiful hikes of the East rim.
GuideWe were just looking for a place to sleep, checked out the first camping outside of Zion east entrance and decided to check out the next closest one according to info from the Zion ranger. Info said 2 miles, but more like 7-8. Upon arrival my kids eyes lit up and we booked 3 mid week nights. Free, private hot showers. Dish was station. Free pool and hot tub, ball sports, playground and fitness trail. Pay for stuff like bungie trampoline and rock wall and put put. 2 camp stores recently equipped, even individual beers(4%). Our site was a little small, tent was to close to the fire ring to feel comfortable with a fire. We peaked at the glamping tents and were jealous, maybe next time. Great spot at $30 a night plus taxes etc.
GuideThe park itself is nice. Full hook ups, heated pool and hot tub. Restrooms and laundry on site. Propane also on site. There are also a series of fenced in dog parks (3). So if you have dogs that don’t get along with other dogs that’s a plus because you can just go in a different one. The wifi is kind of hit or miss sometimes though. When the park is full at peak times good luck streaming anything. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I wouldn’t spring for the back in river spots unless you just want privacy behind you. The view for us isn’t that great as there is a rock wall behind you so your view is actually of that unless you have a very big rig. It is very close to Springdale and Zion National Park which is very convenient and why we chose it so four stars.
TravelerPool was very busy, with the usual hot tub hoggers, but it was weekend and not the campsites fault.
However, there are only 3 shower/ toilet rooms next to the pool, this is not acceptable for such a large site. I waited 10 mins for a shower to come free (there was a queue) and then gave up, and had a shower in my small van. I paid for this site because i wanted to have a proper shower (our van is small), so this was frustrating.
There is road noise if on that side of the site, but its not terrible.
The shuttle they provide into Springdale is $15 each for a return journey, 4 times a day. dont miss the last one, or you walk the 10 miles back!.
No restaurants/ bars within easy walking distance, some within a mile or 2 further down the road.
Easy to find, helpful staff, propane for sale (we filled up here, no problems), decent sized pitch, very clean.
GuideWe finished out our Spring Break Outdoor recreation trip by clamping in one of the canvas tents at Ponderosa. I'd never been so excited to sleep in a bed. We slept with 5 people in each tent. The tents were accommodated with 4 beds (2 twin, 1 Queen, and 1 pull-out couch). We were provided with a power strip for phone charging as well as electricity, extra blankets, and towels.
While we were too tired to take advantage of all the activities offered at the resort, we spent a good amount of time in the hot tub and pool which we had all to ourselves. We then finished out the evening by cooking burgers over the fire and taking showers.
We woke up the next morning to a light dusting of snow, but were not cold during the night. We then enjoyed the all you can eat breakfast which was very nice, especially after having to wake early and make our own food over a temperamental stove each morning.
All in all, Ponderosa was a fabulous experience and I would highly recommend it (Plus it's located literally just outside of the Zion Park border).

The area is located between Zion and Grand Canyon North Rim. If coming from Fredonia (basically from Zion) you have about 6 miles of gravel road, but have 23 miles of gravel road between it and the North Rim. It’s not the smoothest gravel road I have been on, but I made it there going slowly in a sedan. I’d recommend a truck or SUV for the 23 mile gravel drive if possible.
you have to bring your own sheets and bathrooms and kitchen are in a shared area. A beautiful and peaceful place though!
TravelerWe stayed in one of the “Cowboy Cabins”. The cabin itself was clean and cozy! The facilities are likewise clean and there are tons of activities right on property. The recreation room is fantastic for antsy teens! The on-site restaurant was tasty and a nice option if you don’t feel like cooking yourself. We highly recommend this resort.

Those are booked through air bnb just so you know. They have full laundromat and grass area for tent campers. Well kept for sure and peaceful.
