Best RV Parks & Resorts near Montevallo, AL

Several RV parks operate near Montevallo, Alabama including Birmingham South RV Park in Pelham and Hoover Met Complex RV Park. Birmingham South offers 99 sites with full hookups including 50-amp electric service, open year-round with both pull-through and back-in sites. Most RV sites at Birmingham South feature cracked pavement pads with picnic tables and varying degrees of shade. Hoover Met Complex provides a more open layout with pull-through sites on level concrete pads, primarily designed for larger rigs. Rolling Hills RV Park in Calera maintains gravel sites with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections. "Sites are level and partially shaded. Rules loosely enforced as there were trucks parked on grass which was noted as a very prominent rule on reservation and check in."

RV travel between these parks requires careful navigation of Interstate 65, which provides direct access to multiple campgrounds in the region. Site reservations are recommended, particularly during football season when the Hoover Met Complex often fills with visitors. Dump stations are available at most parks, though Birmingham South has reported occasional maintenance issues. Pet policies vary across the parks, with most allowing leashed dogs in designated areas. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, electrical service remains stable throughout temperature fluctuations, though some campers noted issues with ants at certain sites. The proximity to highways means road noise affects several parks, especially Birmingham South which sits between a railroad and Interstate 65.

    Kountry Air RV Park

    Clean quiet campground

We have stayed here many times when were on the road heading  out for the summer.  We had full hook up, a picnic table & there is a small clean restroom near the pool if needed along with a laundry room & place to sit inside if it's hot out.  They have DVD's and some books we trade them where were there. We only stay a night & stay hooked up to the truck. The owners Gigi & her husband work hard to keep the gardens beautiful, the campground maintained & the pool is so clean & refreshing.  You can get propane here.

We've stayed 3 different time & had a nice site towards the back with a garden on the side.

It's off the beaten path a little but well worth it.

    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina

    One and done

The view is fantastic if you are lakeside- but it stops there. Most rentals are along one row and a couple of the lakeside sites. Sites are very unleveled with minimal gravel but almost all have a 6x9 concrete pad. No pool, no fire rings, spotty wifi and frequent brown outs on power. Both shower points smell horrible but appear clean otherwise. Lots of long-term vehicles. People are friendly and pets are welcome.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

    Clear Creek Cove RV Resort

Long term camping with a family atmosphere

This is a great campground that has ONLY long term camping so you really get to know your neighbors. The power is not included but the prices are very reasonable.

Our lot is spacious, gravel pad with a cement patio.

Guide to Montevallo

RV camping options near Montevallo, Alabama offer convenient stopover locations within a 30-mile radius. The region sits in the foothills of the Appalachians with elevations around 400-500 feet. Summer temperatures average 90°F with high humidity, while winters remain relatively mild with occasional freezing nights.

What to do

Bowling and arcade games: Hoover Met Complex RV Park provides easy access to entertainment options beyond camping. "This campground is in the parking lot of the Hoover Met Complex. Easy to navigate in and out of each site. In addition to the Hoover Met sports complex and sports arena there is a new brewery within walking distance of the campground," notes Ryan P.

Splash pad access: The water park at Hoover Met provides relief during hot Alabama summers. "Next to huge water park/splash pad - was a ton of fun for the kids," writes Paul C., highlighting this family-friendly option located adjacent to the RV sites.

Lake activities: For water-based recreation, consider Joyland RV Park. "Stopped overnight at this very quiet spot. Didn't see much but lake was very buetiful. Worth coming back," shares Fletcher6531, referring to the ponds and lake access available.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Rolling Hills RV Park in Calera offers roomier camping spots. "There's quite a bit of space between most of the sites (particularly the back in sites). Our site was right up against another pull through on our patio side though. No big deal, if we were coming to stay for a while we would get a back in spot," explains David S.

Casino access: Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park provides gaming opportunities with site rental. "Very nice RV park next to the casino. Easy access off the Interstate. Concrete pads with full hookups, dog run, small bath house and playground for the kids," describes James R.

Hospitality: Personal service stands out at some rv parks near Montevallo. "This is a very clean, well maintained, camp ground. Gravel pull ins with grass area in between and ponds all around. Owners, Bob and Joy, are very nice and helpful. Bob brought over their homemade wine and a fire pit for us to enjoy during our stay," writes K about Kountry Air RV Park.

What you should know

Site surface variations: Expect different pad types across Montevallo area RV parks. "Just a big parking lot but had full hookup and clean," reports Maureen L. about Hoover Met Complex, while Sunset RV has "Gravel spots with a concrete slab in front. Definitely just a no frills parking lot with full hookups. No trees, no playground, no pool, no picnic table, no fire ring," according to Cat R.

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects several campgrounds. "It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night. There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area," explains Joel R. about Sunset RV.

Weather emergency preparations: Some parks accommodate evacuation situations. "Hurricane Ian sent a multitude of people fleeing from Florida that were now headed to the Hoover Met RV. I called and verified that we still had site reservation for one night. But now the RV park was completely full," shares Pamela B., noting how Hoover Met handled the influx professionally.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: When traveling with children, prioritize parks with play areas. "Super easy to get in and out. Easy hooks ups and good WiFi available. Playground and rock climbing area a plus," recommends Chris G. about Hoover Met Complex RV Park.

Pet-friendly options: Most RV parks near Montevallo accommodate dogs with specific amenities. "Huge grassy area for the dogs. Great night, very quiet," mentions Laura M. about Wind Creek, while Bama RV Station features "3 dog parks level lots," according to Ronnie H.

Shade availability: Summer heat makes tree cover important. "Not much shade. We were there in late February so it was ok. Would be hot in summer," notes Joel R. about a local park, highlighting seasonal considerations when booking sites.

Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: Even paved sites may need adjustment. "While they are paved sites, we found that you do have to level out still by around 3 inches," advises Brittany V. about Wind Creek Atmore.

Easy access routes: Follow specific directions to avoid difficult roads. "When we made reservations, we were told to only take exit 179 off I-65 and follow the GPS directions, as any other way will take you on narrow roads, including gravel roads," explains MickandKarla W. about Kountry Air RV Park.

Water system maintenance: Check filters regularly when moving between parks. "I had what I thought a very low water pressure @ my site. Don took the time to unhook my water & show me my filter had collected so much sediment from previous spot, needed to be changed ASAP," shares Cher C., highlighting an important maintenance tip for RVers moving between Montevallo area campgrounds.
