All nine pet-friendly campgrounds in the Millbrook area provide designated pet exercise areas, including a fenced dog park at Kountry Air RV Park. The sites at Gunter Hill have paved driveways and mature trees providing shade, important for keeping pets comfortable in Alabama's heat. Jackson Lake Towne of Spectre even features baby goats that campers with pets can observe, though dogs should remain leashed when near the campground's farm animals.

The park enforces a 24-hour security patrol that helps maintain a quiet environment for pets sensitive to noise. Prairie Creek Campground and Maxwell-Gunter AFB FamCamp offer pet-friendly accommodations with varying levels of shade and access to walking areas. Campgrounds in the area generally require pets to remain leashed when outside RVs or tents, with designated areas for pet waste disposal. Many campsites feature picnic tables where pet owners can relax while keeping their dogs nearby. During summer months, the heat can be intense for pets even in shaded sites, making early morning or evening the best times for dog walks. The well-maintained grounds at most campgrounds provide safe spaces for supervised pet activities, though wildlife encounters require vigilance with pets.

      The Backyard RV Resort

      Home away from home

We are baaaack! We came back on Friday, the 26th and decided to stay a week. Shannon and his wife, Stacey have the gift of hospitality. We feel safe here with the hidden location and security cameras. Our dogs enjoyed the dog park and walks through the woods and around the lake. I enjoyed the watching the cows and dog herding the goats through the clearing. There is also a playground for kids.

      Peach Queen Campground

      Great campground with friendly staff

The staff here is wonderful. They've helped us adjust to full time RV Life over that past 4 months. The residents here are very friendly as well.

They have a dog park at the front and a large field in the back door our dog to run and play. The pavilion is also great for getting out, even in rainy weather.

The pool is amazing. Plenty of chairs and umbrellas to rest and our kids love the slide.

      Great little campground off I-65

Ultra clean Good Sam campground located just off I-65. Staff was wonderful and engaging. Expect a former Marine to escort you to your site, rain or shine. It was pouring buckets when we arrived and he insisted on taking us literally across the street from the camp store to ensure we had everything we needed.

All lots appeared to be pull thru and level. Due to rain, we kept our Airstream connected to the truck and just connected water and electricity. Leveling was minimal (fore/aft) with no need for blocks or boards.

Recommend staying in sites closer to camp store, as they are farthest from interstate. We barely heard it from site 2.

Laundry room was clean and available to wash/dry lots of towels due to rain and wet dog. Water pressure in campground is 80 psi.

Large fenced dog park at north end and plenty of green space for walking your puppy. Just be aware there are rabbits all over the place.

Propane is available on site and the camp store has a little bit of everything. And there’s a Love’s truck stop at the exit as well.

Great spot for an overnight stay on your trip. You won’t find a nicer staff or a cleaner campground!a

      Maxwell-Gunter AFB FamCamp

RV Friendly, not so much for tents

This is an okay campground but really caters to RVs. There's a whole lot of concrete, perfect for recreational vehicles but not so much for tent or hammock campers. It's more of an RV resort of sorts.

Tent sites are cheap at $5/night but you're limited to only 7 nights. Which probably won't matter to a tent camper here, as I would think being here for that long would be a bit much.

There are a ton of amenities here, including an old softball field turned into a dog park of sorts. There is a nice little lake but that's about it in terms of 'natural' amenities. Okay spot if you just need a place to stay the night but I wouldn't prolong a visit here. Also sort of loud given its close proximity to the train tracks.

      Kountry Air RV Park

      Natural & Beautifully Wooded

My husband's job requires constant travel. We stayed here for five weeks for a job in Selma. I absolutely LOVED this campground! GiGi and Don work tirelessly six days a week. If there were 8 days in a week, they would work 7. Beautiful flowers, more trees than I have ever seen in a campground, fenced dog park, seasonal pool, bathrooms with a shower, large laundry room/sitting area at the front of the park, book/DVD swap, second laundry room being renovated at the back of the park, propane filled on site and safe walking within the park (hills). Some road noise but not obnoxious. Will absolutely stay here again if we are in the area.

      Maxwell-Gunter AFB FamCamp

      Lovely

Great campground for military, large level sites. Long term sites have covered patios. Full hookup, no wi fi. Laundry rooms, 1.00 to wash and dry, with efficient cycles. Lake with playground and large dog park. Exceptionally friendly staff. Quiet and we'll maintained. Shower rooms available, although have not used. You do hear planes going over but not too loud as some AFB's we've stayed at. Relvery plays at 6:30 am, Star Spangled Banner at 5:00pm, and TAPS at 9pm, not offensively loud, kinda like it. Would highly recommend and will be staying awhile great monthly rates. Great Verizon signal.

      The Backyard RV Resort

      Pretty Setting!

Honestly, wasn't sure when we first turned in the driveway.  However, very happy with the park!  We were lucky enough to score a site on the water.  Spots are level and decent sized.  Booking was a breeze, staff was very friendly.  We didn't use the bathrooms or laundry room but they look very clean and recently updated.  Also has a very nice fenced in dog park for off leash play time.

Our AT&T had 5 bars and streamed videos with no problem.  Verizon had 4 bars as well.

      Kountry Air RV Park

      Great Experience

This review is based on a short-term versus destination campground (CG). When we made reservations, we were told to only take exit 179 off I-65 and follow the GPS directions, as any other way will take you on narrow roads, including gravel roads. We drove the 14 miles from the exit to the CG with no issues. We were greeted by Don on his golf cart, and his wife, Gigi, checked us in at the office. We received a great rundown of the local area, including restaurant suggestions that looked really good. Unfortunately, we were only overnighting here and did not have the chance to enjoy Prattville. We were led to pull through site A with FHUs. Getting to our site was a little narrow but very doable. The site was level and pleasantly spacious both at and between sites. The utilities are in the middle of the pad. We were able to position so we could get to both black tanks with a 10’ sewer hose. We got 2 bars on Verizon, and their WiFi was better than most CGs this size. Both Don and his wife came by at separate times to ensure we were settled in, to include asking if we needed propane. The CG is mainly full-timers that include a small community of retired military. They have dedicated sites for short-term stays. There were transient workers as we heard the familiar Cummings diesel start-ups in the wee hours of the morning. There is some road noise, but not bad. They have a nice dog park. As we travel through the area, we will place this CG on our return list.

      Deer Run RV Park

Good Overnighter or Short Stay Option

This review is based on a short-term stay versus a destination campground(CG). We traveled into the CG on the US highways following our RV GPS from FL with no issues getting to this CG. Check-in was very easy, and we were guided to our online reservation first choice, end site 19. Our check-in person was concerned we might not like pulling through site 19. He was correct, as this site was too short and had an incline at the unhitch point. We proceeded to the newer area, where we were given the choice of pull-through sites 97& 98, which were both FHUs and flat. We chose 98, which was fairly level and plenty long enough for our 5th wheel and F450. The sites in this CG are close to each other. There were no trees so that we could have put out our satellite, but there was no need due to the great cable selection. We got 3 bars on Verizon and used our MifI for what little internet we needed. We tried but could not connect to the CG's WiFi. They have very good water pressure, so we used a reducer. Where we were in the back of the CG, we could still hear the highway. There was no formal dog park, but plenty of areas to walk your dog. This is an older park with many permanent and seasonal residents. We were impressed that, for the most part, there was not that“trailer trash” look, and the residents were friendly. There are newer water and electric sites in the 100s area in front of where we were. There’s a shower house and laundry, but we did not use these facilities. This CG is a good short-stay option.
